Speculation about the credentials of people Barack Obama chooses to help him run the federal government must start with the fact that he’s the most rawly partisan, rigid, lawless and corrupt president in the nation’s history. He demands only players who’ll help push forward his mindset.
It’s immaterial to ask whether his choice to take over the Department of Health and Human Services from radical pro-abortionist and defiantly bad Catholic Kathleen Sebelius was born in West Virginia, likes Greek food, or visited Japan.
Obama worships the Culture of Death and left-wing extremism. He doesn’t intend to put impediments to his agenda in positions of government leadership. He knows their resumes and dossiers and chooses accordingly.
While the Beltway in-crowd was swooning on April 11 over his announcement of Sylvia Mathews Burwell to replace Sebelius, the pro-life LifeSiteNews.com quickly got to the heart of the matter: She’s a dedicated population controller and pro-abortionist.
In the White House view, she’s just the right person to have control over Americans’ health under grim Obamacare, which includes medical rationing and the mandate for abortion pills and risky contraceptives.
What a lucky coincidence for Obama’s agenda aiming to suppress individual conscience and freedom! Or not a coincidence at all.
When The Wanderer checked with one of the top Washington think tanks three days later, on April 14, to request an interview about Burwell and population control, this newspaper was told the think tank’s specialist didn’t know much about her background.
Breaking through that Beltway bubble may be hard for some, but not for all.
LifeSiteNews.com reporter Ben Johnson already had rounded up seriously damaging information in his story posted April 11.
“The woman who will oversee the Obama administration’s implementation of the HHS mandate, requiring employers to give ‘free’ contraception to all American women, spent a decade leading the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation’s population-control efforts in the Third World,” Johnson wrote.
Her work at the Gates Foundation included being executive vice president, chief operating officer, and president of its Global Development Program, Johnson wrote, adding:
“Its Global Development Program coordinates the Microsoft billionaires’ ‘family planning’ efforts around the world, much of it funding Planned Parenthood and other pro-abortion ‘philanthropies’.”
Ticking off other facts, the LifeSiteNews.com story said: “During Burwell’s tenure, the Gates Foundation became a corporate partner of Pathfinder International, which ‘believes access to abortion services is not only a public-health imperative, it is also every woman’s right,’ according to its web site. Its population-reduction efforts are concentrated exclusively in the Global South.”
While generally liberal Sen. John McCain (R., Ariz.) expressed approval of Burwell to head HHS as an “excellent choice,” realistically conservative Sen. Jeff Sessions (R., Ala.) took a distinctly different view of the woman who acquired her current job as director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) only in April 2013.
“I am concerned that Director Burwell may have been chosen because the president believed her to be another political loyalist who would toe the party line,” the Christian Post web site quoted Sessions.
“Ms. Burwell has a comparatively thin resume for the demands now placed on this position — she has never run anything on the scale of HHS — and, during her short stint as budget director, she did more to obscure the nation’s poor financial state than to illuminate it.”
Washington Post conservative columnist Marc Thiessen noted on April 14 that not only is OMB responsible for the president’s budget; the office “also has another, lesser-known responsibility: fact-checking presidential speeches. Every proposed presidential utterance is scrubbed for accuracy by OMB.”
Although Burwell didn’t run OMB when Obama began lying about Obamacare, he continued his blatantly false statements after she took over, Thiessen wrote.
“Burwell should not be confirmed until she explains how OMB allowed the president of the United States to lie — repeatedly — to the American people,” Thiessen wrote. “If Democrats don’t demand answers, they can be sure that Republicans will. Since avoiding the subject is not an option, her hearings will be a fascinating insight into the Democrats’ 2014 strategy on Obamacare.”
She also was the official who initiated the order for the federal government shutdown last year, which included closing down open spaces like scenic view points that imposed no burden on the budget. Critics said this was an Obama government tactic to inconvenience and punish the public.
The 48-year-old left-wing Burwell also served faithfully in scandal-plagued President Bill Clinton’s White House.
At The American Spectator site on April 14, writer David Catron recalled a strange episode, indeed, overlooked by the media hailing her HHS nomination — when Burwell rummaged through a newly dead White House lawyer’s garbage in July 1993, only months after Clinton assumed the presidency.
The lawyer was Bill and Hillary Clinton’s buddy Vince Foster from Arkansas, said to have committed suicide in a Virginia park, but whose gunshot death seemed suspicious to many and left them wondering if evidence had been removed.
On the night Foster died, Catron recalled, “Burwell (then Sylvia Mathews) rummaged through the dead man’s garbage, presumably to make sure that it contained no documents implicating the president or Mrs. Clinton, one of Foster’s law partners” in Arkansas.
At the Washington Free Beacon site on April 11, writer Andrew Stiles also noted the strange incident.
“In a story about the Senate investigation of Foster’s suicide,” Catron wrote, “The New York Times reported that some members of the committee ‘found it significant’ that Mathews had ‘managed to retrieve a special bag of garbage containing classified and sensitive papers that was usually destroyed by the Secret Service. It seems passing strange that this episode fails to get a mention in any of the major media outlets that have been cranking out paeans to Burwell.”
Catron observed that Burwell is a person “willing to do anything the boss asks.”
Another blog, noting Burwell’s remarkable search through Foster’s trash, lamented, “Don’t these people ever go away?”
Burwell’s the type, Catron wrote, who, “if asked to do so by her masters…is willing to go through a dead man’s garbage and shut the public out of parks paid for by their own tax dollars. So, can we really expect Burwell to impose some sanity to the implementation [of] Obamacare in her capacity of HHS secretary?”
The sort of person who wins Obama’s approval isn’t the sort anyone else could want exercising big-government power.
