Obama’s Nightmare On The Border… Can’t Lead To Happy New Day For Anyone

By DEXTER DUGGAN

PHOENIX — Barack Obama’s administration created astonishing contradictions by claiming that the United States’ southern border is secure while inducing swelling numbers of illegal Latino immigrants to violate the border with impunity, in hopes of guaranteed U.S. residency.

Rather than send newly revealed surges of unaccompanied minors back home to those who exercise proper custody in Latino nations, Obama’s administration used technicalities to begin trying to imbed those arriving in the U.S.

The Democratic president’s apparent aim was to overpower this nation through sheer numbers, so federal lawmakers would capitulate to Obama’s dreamed-of massive “amnesty.”

However, the surprise primary-election defeat of House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R., Va.) on June 10 by a foe of illegal immigration, Dave Brat, may have chilled any further efforts this year by the Republican establishment to help Obama soften immigration laws.

But Obama has shown himself perfectly capable of defying any law he dislikes on his own.

With news reportedly circulating in Latino lands that illegal immigrants can stay in the U.S., especially those accompanied by minors, holding centers north of the border for illegal aliens quickly were filling up.

Documentary filmmaker Dennis Michael Lynch warned that the U.S. is only seeing “the tip of the iceberg” as of early June, because “entire villages are emptying out” south of the border, with their residents heading north.

Syndicated radio talk host Laura Ingraham played the warning by Lynch, who documents illegal immigration, on her June 10 program. Ingraham spoke of medical worries in Arizona that diseases are “coming in on those kids,” who’ll be put in U.S. schools in three months.

Phoenix ABC Channel 15, KNXV-TV, carried a report from Texas, where illegal aliens are flooding in, about viruses crossing the border with them. A reporter in Texas displayed a piece of yellow warning tape as the only thing separating the ill from the healthy.

The massive border crossings were another step in Obama’s utterly “transforming” America, this time by subordinating legal, taxpaying U.S. residents to the limitless, unauthorized invasion.

Attorney General Eric Holder reportedly began using taxpayers’ money to fund lawyers to represent the interests of the unauthorized entrants — whose main interest is staying here.

In addition to Obama, it’s inescapable that the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), the open-borders brand of Republicans, and big-business interests have tantalized and confused foreign citizens with false hopes and the deception that border lawbreaking not only isn’t wrong but can be praiseworthy.

Hard to believe, but the general picture drawn by numerous bishops is that mainly the illegal entrants are hardworking, holy heroes, while Catholics who oppose massive illegal immigration are hate-filled, legalistic bigots whose hearts and souls are shriveled from lack of mercy. These bishops need to learn the facts instead.

Chilean-born Phoenix resident Luz Fuenzalida, who became a U.S. citizen last year, told The Wanderer that she couldn’t comprehend people sending minors with potentially violent smugglers and rapists for hundreds or thousands of miles to slip into the U.S.

Fuenzalida said she wouldn’t even send her own children to the corner convenience store at night. “Are these parents aware of the dangers facing their children’s ‘dream’ journey which could so easily turn into their biggest nightmare?”

A Catholic who devotes much of her time to trying to rescue unborn babies at abortion clinics and reclaim their mothers’ souls from sinful living, Fuenzalida cautioned against the inducements to sneak into the U.S. for material improvement.

Asked during a June 5 phone interview about her opposition to unauthorized entry, she replied, “Illegal immigration destroys the family . . . God is confirming what I say.

“Why do I respond the way I do? I am living it” by seeing sinful and sinfully tempting behavior among unlawful border crossers, Fuenzalida said.

She said she’ll ask why an 11 or 12-year-old girl already has a boyfriend, and she’ll be told, “Oh, Senora, I feel sorry for him because he’s so lonely,” without a family.

In an email Fuenzalida said: “These ‘freebies’ being handed out encourage more people to come into this country at the expense of cheating, breaking a just law from the very first moment, which often seems to lead them into a spiritually downward spiral — a life of sin, i.e., not paying taxes becomes a habit, abusing benefits paid by others. Feeling entitlement to the point of demanding from a system that you have had no part of, ever before, is immoral!

“If I need money,” Fuenzalida continued, “I do not sneak into my neighbor’s home to take some — even less, demand money from him who owes me nothing!

“Furthermore, it is also important to realize other possible harmful spiritual repercussions of offering these ‘free carrots’,” she said. “We have heard of mothers sending their young girls to obtain ‘free’ benefits on this side [of the border] — citizenship, free education, etc. Little girls are being sent across the border in the hands of coyotes in pursuit of the free economic paradise being offered here.

“This exposes these vulnerable young girls to sex trafficking by opening the door for them to a ‘profitable future’ in prostitution,” she said. “Most do not speak the language, and jobs are scarce. I have personally witnessed men bringing small groups of very young girls to the abortion clinics!”

Crimes By Government

An editorial in Investor’s Business Daily, noting that illegal immigration has gotten completely out of control under Obama’s Democrats, observed: “The more than 90,000 children who crossed the Mexican border into the U.S. and were apprehended this year, and the more than 140,000 expected next year, could and should turn the immigration issue into a GOP weapon against Democrats.”

In fact, many of the “children” were at least older teenagers, not toddlers, wearing ordinary clothes and not looking in the least emaciated. They looked like newly arrived illegal aliens in detention whom I saw a few years ago in photos near the Arizona border as they awaited pickup by border agents.

The ones I saw when I went to the border weren’t starving and wearing rags, but presumably hoped they could make more money here.

In late May it became widely known that Texas was so overwhelmed with more illegal immigrants, often minors, that the federal government was flying them to Arizona, for further dispersal into the U.S., sometimes through bus travel. (See The Wanderer, June 12, “As Bishops Decry Legalism, Obama Dumps Illegal Immigrants at Arizona Bus Stations,” p. B8.)

Yet these developments created serious legal contradictions. As syndicated radio talk host Sean Hannity told his audience on June 10, he certainly couldn’t drive illegal immigrants around for dispersal without his being arrested — but the federal government is doing just that.

After Arizona Republican Gov. Jan Brewer complained on June 2 that the federal government hadn’t even notified Arizona officials that a new flood of illegal immigrants was being brought here, the chief prosecutor in the Phoenix area warned there may be criminal violations by the government itself that he would prosecute.

The governor’s office issued another statement on June 6, saying that the federal government was bringing 1,166 unaccompanied alien children into Arizona on that day and the following two days, which didn’t include figures for alien adults or family units, a number that wasn’t being disclosed.

In the June 6 statement, Brewer said: “I am disturbed and outraged that President Obama’s administration continues to implement this dangerous and inhumane policy. . . . Citizens demand — and so should the media — the reason for this massive influx of illegal crossings, and the cost to taxpayers for having to deal with the crisis caused by the president.

“Not only does the federal government have no plan to stop this disgraceful policy,” Brewer continued; “it also has no plan to deal with the endless waves of illegal aliens once they are released here. If the Obama administration put half the effort into securing our border as it has invested to institute this operation, our state and nation would not be facing this situation.

“This is a crisis of the federal government’s creation, and the fact that the border remains unsecure — now apparently intentionally — while this operation continues full-steam ahead is deplorable,” she said.

Meanwhile, KFNX radio news in Phoenix (1100 AM) reported on June 9 that federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) said the substantial transfers of illegal aliens into Arizona would continue “for the foreseeable future.”

And Breitbart News reported June 9: “Chatter from Washington about amnesty legislation may be compelling illegal immigrant youth to pour into the country. As Breitbart Texas first reported, illegal immigrants are being warehoused in Texas and being sent to neighboring states like Arizona and Oklahoma.”

Bill Montgomery, chief prosecutor for Phoenix’s Maricopa County, issued a news release on June 9 saying he alerted ICE that his office could be prosecuting violators.

“The actions by the federal government . . . to transfer women and children who have entered . . . without lawful authority from Texas to bus stations in the state of Arizona are appalling,” the Republican Montgomery said.

“To the extent that even one unaccompanied minor under 16 years of age has been transferred to a bus station without regard for food, water, or shelter or access to the same may constitute felony child abuse under Arizona law.

“Cases submitted to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office for such conduct may subject federal officials to prosecution by my office, and we will not hesitate to seek appropriate punishment,” Montgomery continued.

“. . . A responsible system of immigration will not create false hope in parents and children, leading to the surge in unaccompanied minors now streaming across our borders,” he added.

Total Collapse

Sen. Jeff Sessions (R., Ala.), a leading foe of illegal immigration, illustrated how the government itself encourages the massive lawbreaking. On June 9 Breitbart News reported him saying:

“For all practical purposes, the administration’s policy is that anyone in the world, of any age, is free to come and stay in the interior of the United States, to illegally work and receive taxpayer benefits, so long as they are not caught, tried, and convicted of a serious crime. And even then, thousands of criminal aliens are released each and every year. Unfortunately, the president remains committed to escalating — rather than ending — the lawlessness.”

As for Obama’s illegal declaration in 2012 that he was deferring action against alien minors, Sessions drew this comparison:

“Imagine that the administration announced it would no longer enforce any tax-fraud violations in amounts under $1 million, as a matter of ‘prosecutorial discretion.’ Would we not see a massive spike in tax fraud in amounts less than a million dollars? It would be a unilateral repeal of an entire section of the criminal code by the executive branch.

“Now further imagine the administration expanded the policy to say that tax fraud — in any amount — will be permitted so long as the proceeds are transferred to a minor relative,” Sessions continued.

“After all, this minor, the administration argues, received the money ‘through no fault of their own,’ and so it would be morally improper to apply the law in such cases — it would be a violation of their ‘civil rights.’ Does anyone doubt this would lead to a total collapse of tax enforcement nationwide?”

Houston, Texas, Republican Cong. John Culberson told syndicated radio host Ingraham on June 6 that “we’re all furious about” the new invasion of Texas, which Culberson called “an out-of-control situation that the Obama administration is creating deliberately. . . .

“And it’s going to get a lot worse, and it’s absolutely out of control,” Culberson said.

A few weeks earlier, he said, about 150 people tried to charge across a bridge in Laredo — an event which he expects to see more of.

Once A Nation

Of Legal Immigrants

Fuenzalida, the Chilean native who became a U.S. citizen in Arizona, emailed The Wanderer:

“The mentality of some persons who cross the border saying, ‘It is OK for me to sneak in to where I can get a “better lifestyle” — at times for “free,” at the expense of someone else’s effort — is just fine’ — [this] is a similar mentality to that of some mothers with whom I have spoken as they are walking into the abortion clinics, saying to me, ‘Don’t worry, I am already forgiven for this abortion, Christ died for this sin!’

“Leading people to confuse evil for good is seriously grave,” Fuenzalida said. “If it is morally culpable to help them expect something for nothing, engendering feelings of ongoing ‘entitlement’ is worse — especially when it is to the point of risking their soul, as when sacrificing a child through abortion to the god of a higher standard of living or a more lucrative lifestyle, or abandoning the Church because you want to stay in an adulterous lifestyle, behaviors I have unfortunately witnessed all too often with illegal immigrants.

“Bishops and politicians presume that waiting for legal immigration is somehow burdensome or unjust,” she said. “Just as something simple is needed to validly enter the True Church, namely a few words and water in Baptism, an application and a little waiting period is all that is asked of the true immigrant to legally enter our country. This has always been a nation of legal immigrants.

“When we place making more money and a better lifestyle above God, living together in adultery/fornication in order to ‘save’ money becomes a way of life,” Fuenzalida said.

“Not paying taxes also saves money. Aborting children saves money, too. We seem to be changing laws to fit our evil lifestyle! It starts with changing language — which has led us to think that killing our own baby is our right.”

With massive problems of illegal immigration being ignored while bishops push for “comprehensive immigration reform” as the only possible and acceptable solution, Fuenzalida commented:

“Let us first pray, fast, and inform ourselves well, before blindly endorsing something because it sounds charitable and good. Satan is alive and well in this world; confusion abounds!. . .

“Perhaps if we understood that there was a good reason Christ said, ‘Give Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and to God what belongs to God’ — Just laws must be respected; abortion must end!”
