Now that we’re mostly told or ordered to stay home because of the coronavirus, in nations around the world, what if the next step is that our Internet, phone, and social-media connections somehow go down?
What was more or less tolerable confinement, keeping company with our electronic connections, becomes more or less imprisonment without them. What if our ability to keep in touch with acquaintances and local and national developments becomes lost?
The springtime of liberation represented by Easter was being reversed by seeing the stone rolled back into place to seal the tomb all over again. The most joyous celebration of the Christian calendar seemed more likely to be celebrated behind closed doors, although not yet having to hide from commissars wearing red stars.
Two centuries ago, a handwritten letter from New York City to the West Coast could go on a sailing ship around the tip of South America before it came up northward to reach pioneer San Diego.
Will we be more or less sent back to those distanced days at a lot faster pace than the speed of a sailing ship? Even if communication isn’t actively censored, it could be strongly impeded.
Moreover, in an April 1 video, President Donald Trump warned of the threat that drug cartels, terrorists, criminals, and other actors will try to exploit the coronavirus pandemic for their gain, but the U.S. won’t let that happen.
Candidate Joe Biden and other Democratic Party figures began suggesting that their party’s in-person presidential nominating convention this summer be canceled or delayed due to COVID-19. Delayed, with the effect that their nemesis Trump could remain in the White House longer? Surely not.
Would the summer nomination and November election processes somehow be turned over to anonymous electronic control rooms that could work their magic while voters were kept confined? Improbabilities have gained a way of turning into realities.
Meanwhile, billionaire developer Trump knew the difference between political maneuvering and humanitarian crisis. To strike successful deals in the business world, Trump hadn’t cared what another developer’s politics were. But Democrat career swamp-dwellers like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi seemed to approach every issue as a political calculation to be made.
Trump definitely was a political foe of left-wing New York Dem Mayor Bill de Blasio, but, the New York Post posted on March 27, Trump remarked on assisting de Blasio’s city during this crisis: “We’ve helped him, I think, a lot, and I’ve really gotten to like him. I get along with him very well. Now, he wants us to do certain things, and we’ve produced.”
Grotesquely, CNN’s Jake Tapper asked left-wing California Gov. Gavin Newsom if the governor was having to temper himself in the crisis lest he get on the wrong side of Trump’s federal government. Newsom replied that he candidly had to say Trump has been responsive to Golden State needs. “The fact is, every time I’ve called the president, he’s quickly gotten on the line,” Newsom said.
Still, national Democrats kept trying to impose their party’s proposed changes of the nation’s voting methods — methods that wouldn’t pass Congress otherwise — through emergency spending bills.
“Moral imperatives” favored by Democrat mandarins who detest traditional morality tried to slip through in unrelated legislation, while Dems’ seething hatred of Trump grows more unhinged by the day. What if some crisis could prove to be the tool they need?
What kind of world might Americans discover when we’re allowed to emerge sometime from our potential extended, electronics-deprived confinement at home?
Maybe the Washington deep state, citing this national emergency, will have imprisoned Trump and his Cabinet and installed a ruling triumvirate of pro-abortion, statist Democrat radicals like Nancy Pelosi, Charles Schumer, and Andrew Cuomo?
Under them, a Department of Justice headed by fantasist Adam Schiff, an FBI run by “social justice”-loving Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a Department of Health and Human Services with national Planned Parenthood veteran Cecile Richards, who needed a nice government job anyway, ACLU attorneys running every nook and cranny. And so on.
Whether or not the leaders of Communist China — dictators for whom human life except their own has little meaning — intentionally were trying a trial run of biological warfare with COVID-19 from Wuhan as 2020 began, the Democrat Party has become famed for, as Barack Obama’s White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel said, not letting a serious crisis go to waste.
If the successful policies of the conservative, judge-appointing President Trump they so despised seemed to guarantee his re-election, any available tool must be marshaled against him. Including a handy pandemic. Gone are his big public rallies that disprove dominant media claims of his unpopularity. Gone are vulnerable protections of voting security.
Perhaps extended voting periods of around 30 days could be changed by judicial diktat to 60 or 90 days, however long it took to manufacture the desired result. Pro-lifers and conservative Republicans could be wiped from power with a computer click here and there.
People having to make some civic-minded and perhaps mildly sacrificial effort to get to the polls on a designated election day became so passé as extending voting periods to fiddle with the results could recall Nero fiddling while Rome died.
In the last century-plus, there have been many firsts in all of recorded history, from powered flight to commercial jet flight to rocket trips into space with human crews. From antibiotics to atomic and hydrogen bombs.
Yet never before in recorded history have billions of people around the globe gone under the same sort of tough restriction on daily living all at once.
Their streets aren’t empty because a war is raging — except maybe a globalist anti-democracy war with technological means, animated by creepy spirits like pro-immorality billionaire George Soros.
Eerily around the U.S., gun shops were ordered shut while criminals were set free from prisons as an alleged anti-virus measure. The conservative Seeing Red Arizona blog posted on April 1 (in what was not an April fool):
“States with Democrat governors from California to New York are releasing felons charged with violent crimes from prison, claiming the close conditions are breeding grounds for the scourge. At the same time, the pandemic is being used by Second Amendment restrictionists to deem gun shops ‘nonessential’ and in need of being closed.”
With differing degrees of severity, church congregations were ordered not to meet — even while Planned Parenthood abortuaries churned along, depriving babies of their lives while also depriving other medical workers of needed supplies.
And the strongly pro-“gay” Arizona Republic, the Grand Canyon State’s largest news site, instructed readers that despite restrictions for health safety, they still could “Celebrate Pride from your living room this weekend. Here’s how.”
On March 31 CNN reported that 16 states and one North Carolina county were restricting movement, within their boundaries or across state lines. What had been alleged racism and bigotry if used against the movement of illegal immigrants was now necessary security wielded against U.S. citizens.
Sen. Cotton “On The Mark”
In early 2020 Democrats and their media allies continued a massive, unprecedented, unfair, and predictably futile partisan impeachment war against Trump even while a little-noticed event was happening far away. Little germs from China were starting to tippy-toe.
Sen. Tom Cotton (R., Ark.), a conservative pro-lifer and hawk against Communist China, didn’t like what he was learning. Arkansas’ largest news platform, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, of Little Rock, posted on January 31 that although “his Senate colleagues were focusing on the president’s removal or acquittal. . . . Cotton . . . spent much of this week sounding the alarm about the coronavirus…
“The lawmaker from Dardanelle has branded the impeachment a ‘sham’,” the Democrat-Gazette added. “The coronavirus, on the other hand, is ‘the biggest and the most important story in the world,’ he told members of the Senate Armed Services Committee during its hearing (January 30). . . .
“. . .‘The coronavirus could result in a global pandemic,’ he warned military officials and colleagues,” the paper reported, saying Cotton characterized it as “probably worse than Chernobyl,” the localized 1986 nuclear-plant disaster in Ukraine.
Fox News reported on March 31 that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) said “the federal government was distracted by the Democratic-led impeachment trial of President Trump when the coronavirus outbreak began.”
McConnell lauded Cotton for being first and “right on the mark,” Fox News said. “‘And it came up while we were tied down on the impeachment trial,’ McConnell said on Hugh Hewitt’s radio program. ‘And I think it diverted the attention of the government, because everything every day was all about impeachment. But Tom figured this out early, and he was absolutely right’.”
Not that a world crisis should matter more than Nancy Pelosi’s ferocious agenda as tutored by the unworldly New York Times.
