Finally, the secular progressives have done what they should have been doing all along in Chicago.
Instead of mooching off the Catholic Church as they have been doing for the last 43 years, they have finally banded together to raise money for organizations who were recently cut from Catholic Campaign for Human Development grant monies.
On the Solidarity Fund’s web site, it states that the fund was “. . . established by a group of Chicago and national foundations to provide support to local groups whose work is grounded in advancing social justice, racial equity, and immigrant rights, and who recently lost funding from the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD), an arm of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. CCHD based its decision to defund these groups on their membership in a coalition of advocates for immigration fairness and reform, the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR), which in May 2013 expressed support for civil marriage in Illinois.”
I hope that finally these mostly malcontent rabble-rousers can now stop asking our Church to fund their secular social justice nonsense, and waste their own money on what only they believe is justice.
Don’t ever underestimate these social justice do-gooders because, without hesitation, they will take money from wherever they can and exploit the poorest, most disabled and marginalized people for their selfish goals of wealth and political power.
The “Alinskyian” modus operandi has always been to use other people’s money to support Alinsky-type causes. Just take a look at the redistribution of wealth that the Occupier-in-Chief in the White House is implementing through Obamacare. Historically, many of the CCHD’s grantees have been made of that same fabric: devout Saul Alinsky disciples.
These secular organizers not only have capitalized on the complicit liberal priests and bishops through the CCHD, Catholic Relief Services (CRS), and the Peace and Justice offices that run those programs, but they have also reaped federal money to support their social welfare entitlement and enablement programs.
While it is terrific to see the CCHD reject supporting any community organization involved with the ICIRR and its pro-homosexual agendas, there is still much work to do before CCHD is deserving of our support. Some of the 2013 CCHD grantees include the Industrial Areas Foundation-based organizations United Power for Action and Justice (UPAJ) and Lake County United.
Organizations like these are very active in partisan political activity and besides these two groups, others on the 2013 CCHD grantee list have also promoted evils such as Obamacare, knowing full well how this legislation promotes abortifacients and contraception.
One grantee, Developing Communities Project, Inc., even features a picture of pro-abortion, pro-gay “marriage” President Barack Obama on its web site’s home page with the following Obama quote: “. . . [community] organizing holds out an offer of collective redemption” (from his Dreams From My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance).
The only redemption that exists for us Catholics is through Christ’s crucifixion. Obama’s “collective redemption” belongs in the trash heap of history, along with Karl Marx, Josef Stalin, Chairman Mao, Adolf Hitler, and all of the other despots and their failed humanist philosophies.
The Chicago CCHD’s most recent public relations campaign includes a couple of online videos — produced by the normally good Chicago-based Spirit Juice Studios — which portray the CCHD as an exemplary campaign helping the most in need.
While a number of people with disabilities are paraded throughout one of the videos, why weren’t the Spirit Juice cameras invited to visit and film rabble-rousers at the UPAJ and Lake County United during one of their organizing for America “Obamacare” town halls?
Get Out Of Our Pockets
The Crossroads Fund, which organized the “Solidarity Fund” to try and save some of the sinking ships torpedoed by rescinded CCHD grants, is a great fit for these secular social justice groups.
While their souls are just as important as any of ours, they apparently have little invested in them. These humanist foundations and the community organizations they love so much aren’t only putting their own souls at risk, but they also jeopardize the souls of all of the poor and disenfranchised people they use to further their own agendas.
On its Facebook page, Crossroads features many pro-homosexual posts, including a photo of the Chicago “Dike March” in the former Hispanic Catholic hub known as the Pilsen neighborhood.
It is terrible how many Catholic priests have allowed these humanist efforts to supersede their responsibility to bring as many souls to Christ on these very same streets in Chicago.
I hope that Crossroads continues its efforts to answer the call of their peers. This way they can get out of our Church and out of our pockets and maybe learn to respect our Catholic Church, our morals, our values, and our beliefs.
