Thoughts On Indiana’s Religious Liberty Law

By REY FLORES

St. Bernardine of Siena wrote that deviance “disturbs the intellect, destroys elevation and generosity of soul, brings the mind down from great thoughts to the lowliest, makes the person slothful, irascible, obstinate and obdurate, servile and soft and incapable of anything; furthermore, agitated by an insatiable craving for pleasure, the person follows not reason but frenzy.”

Just trying to wrap my mind around what is happening to our society gets harder and harder each day. It’s not so much madness as it is evil that is permeating every aspect of our society.

Homosexuality may be a topic that you may be tired of hearing or reading about — but you’re not nearly as sick and tired of hearing about it as I am of writing about it. It must be done, however, in the same way countless of books, articles, and commentaries have been written about other societal harms like abortion, drug abuse, prostitution, and violence.

Despite all of the secular mainstream attempts at indoctrinating the entire populace into thinking either that we are all homosexuals or are accepting of such sin, I assure you that there are plenty more of us who abide by our Christian faith that teaches us to love the sinner, but not to love his or her sin.

My friend, writer John Zmirak, recently pointed out in one of his commentaries that, in just 20 years: “It’s stunning how quickly the demands of gay activists went from libertarian (‘Don’t arrest us for sodomy’) to totalitarian (‘Take part in our weddings or we’ll destroy your livelihoods’.)”

Again, this isn’t about equality anymore, and as a matter of fact, I will go as far as to say it never was. Deliberate sinners always want to involve others in their sin. The more people participate, the less guilt and self-indictment they’ll have to endure when they stand in front of a mirror.

Now the state of Indiana has signed into law its own Religious Freedom Restoration Act — which was written to protect Christian business owners from losing everything they’ve worked for in case a pair of homosexuals get denied wedding services because of that businessperson’s Christian beliefs.

All hell has broken loose and it’s a small pizzeria owner who is taking the brunt of the radical homosexual left.

Head Coach Jess Dooley of Concord High School in Elkhart, Ind., recently Tweeted, “Who’s going to Walkerton, Indiana to burn down #memoriespizza with me? Agree with #FreedomOfReligion bill? ‘That’s a lifestyle they choose’ Ignorant.”

The school later reported that the coach has been suspended pending an investigation.

But Dooley was angry because when asked about the new Indiana law by a local news station, Memories Pizza co-owner Crystal O’Connor said: “If a gay couple came in and wanted us to provide pizzas for their wedding, we would have to say no. We are a Christian establishment.”

O’Connor never said they wouldn’t serve homosexuals at their restaurant, but of course, the radicals have blown this out of proportion and pounced on it the same way they’ll pounce on any and every opportunity to paint any Christian as a homophobe, hater, and/or bigot.

O’Connor’s father added: “That’s a lifestyle that you choose, I choose to be heterosexual, they choose to be homosexual — why should I be beat over the head because they choose that lifestyle?”

That’s right!

I bet both Kevin O’Connor and Crystal O’Connor love gays the same way that we all should: as human persons. But that doesn’t mean we support their homosexuality as they act upon it in the same immoral fashion that a heterosexual philanderer might also act upon his sin.

Furthermore, as The Wanderer was going to press this week, The Hill wrote that this pizzeria closed on April 1 due to the overwhelming backlash.

The Hill cited TMZ as reporting that Memories Pizza was suspending its operations until further notice, according to owner Kevin O’Connor.

Interestingly, someone forwarded an article to me written by a very troubled soul who is now transgendered, thanks to a gender reassignment operation. The article is titled “I Was a Transgendered Woman” written by Walter Heyer and was published by the Witherspoon Institute.

I refer you to the article itself, but here is the gist of it. “The reprieve provided by surgery and life as a woman was only temporary. Hidden deep underneath the makeup and female clothing was the little boy hurt by childhood trauma, and he was making himself known.”

The article is an account of the very painful and troubled life of a boy and now a pseudo half-man, half-woman, who was misled and essentially abused by a trusted adult family member into redefining his gender. This article in my opinion encapsulates what is going on en masse in our society.

Let us not forget how Planned Parenthood’s own Vice President Frederick S. Jaffe recommended in a memo to the Population Council in 1969 to “encourage increased homosexuality” as yet another way to control population growth.

I applaud Indiana Gov. Mike Pence for having the courage to sign the Religious Freedom Restoration Act into state law, and encourage him to stand his ground and not backpedal and kowtow to the radical homosexuals.

I note that this article was written, however, just as Indiana legislators were announcing a proposed “fix” to the religious liberty law.

It is solid religious liberty laws that will help children not suffer a painful journey such as the one Walter Heyer has undergone.
