Refuting the hatred conjured by dominant media against Donald Trump — whatever the moment’s reason for their horror against him happens to be — is about as futile a task as expecting the Ministry of Truth in George Orwell’s novel 1984 to stand for the same truth today and also tomorrow.
The Ministry of Truth constantly rewrote the record to suit whatever the party line of the hour was. Yesterday’s “facts” disappeared down the “memory hole,” replaced by today’s totally different ones. Which will be replaced by tomorrow’s.
Vladimir Putin was an okay dictator yesterday. The same Vladimir Putin is a monstrous dictator today. Manhattan multibillionaire developer Trump was a cosmopolitan friend to all. The same Republican President Trump is a despicable racist and traitor.
How does one refute their anti-Trump attack before they quickly disremember it while trotting forth yet another alleged White House abomination? They dream up one nightmare after another, night and day.
They shoot a machine gun filled with blanks, fly into a deeper frenzy when the target isn’t shredded, and decide they just need more firepower, different caliber.
It’s not that blustery Trump did something debatable or poorly advised. It’s that he must be chased far from office in shame and tatters before sunset for unimaginable atrocities, so that vengeful pro-abortion Democrats can take over again.
As this Wanderer article was written on July 18, the current cooked-up outrage was that Trump actually is a “treasonous traitor” for failing to froth and foam against Russian President Putin at their July 16 Helsinki news conference.
Where will the ceaseless vituperation lead? From this corner, it seems plain that dominant pundits are eating themselves alive with their bitterness and contempt.
“They have no idea the vast numbers of people they’re driving into the arms of Donald Trump,” said radio talk host Rush Limbaugh on July 17 about the unrestrained attacks.
Limbaugh had cited legal observer Jill Wine-Banks fantastically saying on MSNBC that Trump’s performance in Helsinki “will live in infamy as much as the Pearl Harbor attack or Kristallnacht.” Quite a mouthful. That’s Japan’s sneak attack in 1941 that brought the U.S. into the war in the Pacific, and Nazi pogroms in 1938 that preceded the Holocaust.
On the other hand, some polls say that people, presumably helplessly steeped in this kind of vitriol as they read and watch media, want Trump reined in. And what better way to do that than voting for Democrats this November?
We’ll know before Thanksgiving whether this media assault has worked. Despite its lockstep determination, it didn’t prevent Trump’s election in 2016.
What will Trump’s newly impeachable offense be a week from now? What was it a week ago? Two months ago? Two months into the future? Torturing babies? Colluding with despots? Despising foreigners? Threatening nuclear war?
The only unchanging offense is that Trump is president instead of someone preferred by the leftist media-government establishment that will smoothly swallow any outrage to its liking, but will have the top of its head blow off when it can’t dictate terms.
For nearly a half-century, a Herodian slaughter of tens of millions of defenseless preborn babies has raged across the United States, but the establishment only is puzzled that anyone could object to these oceans of blood it set loose.
Hey, if Trump is a treasonous traitor, he’s unfit to nominate new justices to the Supreme Court. That might be a useful excuse to forestall the alleged deadly threat to permissive abortion when Catholic Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s Senate confirmation hearings begin.
Trump a toady of Putin? While meeting with NATO leaders in Brussels, shortly before Helsinki, Trump bluntly warned against Germany being so dependent on importing Russian energy that it’s Moscow’s “captive.” It’s not likely Putin appreciated Trump trying to shoo customers off his doorstep.
The Donald looks like a loudmouth standing up for the American people. His media foes are foulmouths more adept at poisoning their own souls.
Among many memorable parts of the 1984 novel was the “Two Minutes Hate,” a daily time when party members watched a film of enemies including Emmanuel Goldstein, and they foamed with rage:
“A hideous ecstasy of fear and vindictiveness, a desire to kill, to torture, to smash faces in with a sledge hammer, seemed to flow through the whole group of people like an electric current, turning one even against one’s will into a grimacing, screaming lunatic.”
Sounds like watching a panel of dominant media folk or reading The New York Times and Washington Post.
The Ministry of Truth ceaselessly changes the story.
Back in the 2012 campaign, Barack Obama mocked his GOP presidential opponent, Mitt Romney, for saying that Russia was “a geopolitical foe.” Said the former Massachusetts governor: “I have clear eyes on this. I’m not going to wear rose-colored glasses when it comes to Russia, or Mr. Putin.”
But, Obama said, the Cold War was long gone, even though Romney wished it weren’t. The incumbent Democratic president mocked: “The 1980s are calling and they want their foreign policy back.”
Do the Democrats want to prove some president’s election collusion with Russia? None other than Obama was caught unawares on an open microphone in campaign year 2012 doing just that, telling then-Russian President Dmitry Medvedev that he needed “space” from Moscow until after his presumed successful re-election that November.
“This is my last election. . . . After my election I have more flexibility,” Obama said. Medvedev replied that he’d pass on Obama’s request to Putin. “I will transmit this information to Vladimir.”
According to a Reuters news service report at that time, Romney dared to protest the collusion as it was revealed, saying, “This is no time for our president to be pulling his punches with the American people.”
Reuters, rather than reacting with the horror and outrage that Trump would excite, expressed a patient view in its March 26, 2012, story: “The unusually frank exchange came as Obama and Medvedev huddled together on the eve of a global nuclear-security summit in the South Korean capital, unaware their words were being picked up by microphones as reporters were led into the room.”
The story in London’s Daily Telegraph back then also failed to show alarm: “Once they were made public, the White House said Mr. Obama’s words reflected the reality that domestic political concerns in . . . both the U.S. and Russia this year would make it difficult to fully address their long-standing differences over the contentious issue of missile defense.”
Hillary Clinton colluded with Russia during the Obama administration, too, columnist Wayne Allyn Root recalled at the Las Vegas Review-Journal on July 18. He gave two examples including the Uranium One scandal.
“Once when selling one-fifth of America’s uranium stock in return for $140 million in donations to the Clinton Foundation,” he wrote. “And again when she paid millions to Russians for a fake dossier to frame Trump.”
Nations and times change.
Russia isn’t the aggressive atheist-Communist superpower that the larger USSR was. Putin is a calculating strongman looking out for Russia’s interests first, but Moscow has allowed the re-emergence of that nation’s historic Christianity and doesn’t chain its people in the bondage of old.
Can the U.S. please be less frightened of Moscow than back when its ruthless Communist government was headed by the likes of nuclear-armed gangsters Nikita Khrushchev, Leonid Brezhnev, and Yuri Andropov, none of them any friends of Christianity or Judaism?
Yet U.S. liberals of that time always seemed hopeful of agreement or even convergence between that grasping prison state and the U.S., while today they’d have us quivering with fear over Putin — who, however, was an acceptable dictator to them when Obama was in the White House.
Commentator Laura Ingraham noted on her national radio program on July 18 that Trump had had Chinese Communist President Xi Jinping visiting with him in Florida at his Mar-a-Lago resort, without the dominant media losing their minds — even though Xi’s government is a mighty persecutor of Christians. And, one might add, of preborn Chinese babies and their mothers.
Meanwhile, Never Trumpers like Arizona Republican Senators John McCain and Jeff Flake continue to challenge the president’s standing. Even after being diagnosed with aggressive brain cancer in 2017 then staying in Arizona for treatment, McCain has kept up sending a stream of tweets, often criticizing Trump.
McCain delivered an especially harsh tweet the very day of the Putin meeting, saying, “Today’s press conference in Helsinki was one of the most disgraceful performances by an American president in memory. The damage inflicted by President Trump’s naiveté, egotism, false equivalence, and sympathy for autocrats is difficult to calculate. But it is clear that the summit in Helsinki was a tragic mistake.”
The pro-McCain Arizona Republic, the state’s largest daily, which had endorsed Hillary Clinton for president in 2016, bannered one big, glaring word from McCain’s message across Page One on July 17, “Disgraceful.”
McCain’s Invisibility
The Wanderer asked Arizona conservative GOP political consultant Constantin Querard for his reaction. Querard pointed to his own blog comments at his Grassroots Partners consulting firm’s website, grassrootspartners.com.
“I’ve been publicly consistent and vocal on it for a while now,” he told The Wanderer, going on to explain that he doesn’t believe the ill McCain is sending his own messages — “he’s not saying or writing any of it. It often is something he would likely agree with, but putting quotes around it and claiming he actually said it is fraud.”
In a long June 26 blog item headlined, “The media owes us the truth about Sen. McCain,” Querard wrote that “each and every one of us should include Sen. McCain in our prayers — that the good Lord gives him comfort and peace and brings the same to his family.”
However, Querard said, “The real problem, more accurately the likely scandal that is largely being ignored both by those close to the senator, by virtually the entire media, and by Washington, D.C., as a whole, is that Sen. McCain is simultaneously invisible from the public for obvious reasons, while remarkably active in terms of public statements and policy positions.”
Querard said it has to be asked who’s actually speaking in McCain’s name, and why are the media letting this mystery go unchallenged?
“The problem,” Querard blogged, “is that it is a near certainty that some unelected person is now speaking for our senator and using his name to attempt to steer domestic and foreign policy in this country, and the media is largely complicit in this attempt.
“This is unacceptable, those committing this fraud should be punished or fired, the people of Arizona should get to know who specifically has hijacked the office of their senior senator, and the media that has played along should be embarrassed,” Querard blogged.
The Wanderer asked a veteran Phoenix-area supporter of McCain if he believed the senator actually tweeted the comment about Helsinki, but he declined to comment, saying he lacked insight into the senator’s circumstances.
