In the little slice of U.S. history from momentous February 3 through 5, 2020, the Democratic Party stank like Limburger cheese while the Republican president lured like succulent, sizzling steak.
Think of the Dems’ Iowa caucus Monday clown show, President Trump’s Tuesday mouth-watering State of the Union speech, and his Wednesday acquittal of Dem-falsified impeachment charges.
Yet the most memorable image that emerged may not have been Trump basking in positives over his accomplishments but simmering House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) actually ripping in two the text of the president’s address to Congress and the nation while Trump still stood just in front of her at the House of Representatives dais as he concluded his speech.
It became a rip heard ’round the world, with echoes unto November.
Bad Catholic Pelosi might well have guaranteed the assassination of her own political party in next November’s elections with her appalling, angry arrogance, the true face of prevailing Democrat leaders with a futile strategy for attracting a winning majority of voters.
In early December, Pelosi had flipped out when a reporter asked if she hated Trump. Shakily gesticulating, an agitated Pelosi cited her Catholic upbringing — which, incidentally, never prevents her from energetically promoting the Culture of Death — as causing her to pray for Trump, not hate him.
When reporters on February 4 asked why she ripped apart the State of the Union text, Pelosi said this action toward his lying speech was “the courteous thing to do, given the alternative.”
In fact, a video at the New York Post indicated the physical attack on Trump’s words wasn’t a sudden emotional outburst. The video showed that as the president spoke in the House chamber, Pelosi carefully took sheets of her own copy of the text below desk level and made small tearing motions, as if preparing the paper to rip apart exactly in the right place later on.
That Pelosi thought she could do this furtively although right in front of national news cameras may have illustrated what Democrats have come to assume they can do openly as long as protective media are on their side.
Her little tearing motions before bursting forth with the big rip were emblematic of the Dems’ impeachment hoax. Their attack on Trump wasn’t something they suddenly felt ethically compelled to do in the summer of 2019, but merely the result of their unhinged, utter rejection of him for many months as someone who dared oppose their immoral, globalist lawbreaking agenda.
Various conservatives sounded the note that when Democrats are already shredding the Constitution, ripping apart a speech isn’t so surprising.
Conservative Republican political consultant Constantin Querard told The Wanderer on February 5: “Speaker Pelosi lost her cool, which is actually very unusual for someone who has spent most of her adult life in politics. She hates President Trump and wanted to act out, and did so in a way that looked very bad.
“But that level of bad manners permeated the evening, as you had Democrats shaking their fists and chanting to interrupt the president in a way we haven’t seen before,” Querard said.
“We think back to the lone Joe Wilson calling out ‘You lie!’ to President Obama during his speech and the firestorm it triggered, including from Nancy Pelosi at the time, and there are no repercussions for this year’s further deterioration of decorum and respect for office and occasion,” he said.
As a South Carolina Republican congressman in 2009, Wilson had called out against Barack Obama as that president said his proposed Obamacare wouldn’t “insure illegal immigrants” as he delivered an address to a joint session of Congress.
The night before Trump’s latest, 78-minute-long State of the Union, the Democratic Party’s Iowa presidential caucus on February 3 massively fell apart as it proved technically unable to deliver the vote results until days passed.
The London-based Daily Telegraph’s Nick Allen’s harsh judgment of “asinine incompetence” echoed numerous other reporters who, regardless of ideology, had pressing deadlines to meet.
At 2 a.m. Eastern time on February 6, Thursday, the Real Clear Politics site showed an Iowa vote count still incomplete, at 96 percent reported.
As of then, Joe Biden, the much-touted “electable, moderate” Democrat to beat Trump, was in fourth place, with openly proclaimed socialist Bernie Sanders at number one.
One immediate reaction by many to the Iowa debacle was that this political party can’t even get its voting done right for one night in one modest-sized state, but it wants to run everything everywhere all the time, from health care to finance to law to what’s appropriate religiously to what can be stated in the media, just for starters.
Regardless of their somewhat varying approaches to voters, these candidates’ Democratic Party has an official platform promoting the anti-Judeo-Christian Culture of Death. When one of them like Tulsi Gabbard (D., Hawaii) dared express any reservations about permissive abortion, for instance, she was an illegitimate outlier.
Having welcomed to the House chamber a mother holding her little girl who had been born very prematurely at 21 weeks and 6 days in 2017, Trump called for a ban on late abortions. The mother pumped her fist up and down in agreement amid widespread applause, but bad Catholic Pelosi just sat, stared, and didn’t clap, like her other anti-life Dem radicals.
Trump’s acquittal at his impeachment trial in the Senate on February 5 was the only logical outcome after rushed House Democrats failed to take time to build a persuasive case to take to the upper chamber. As usual, the magical clincher was always just around the next corner for discovery by House harridans, even though all the past potential clinchers hadn’t worked.
Prosecutors have to assemble a solid case before trial begins. They can’t tell the judge that they’re testing out their case on the fly in the courtroom because they just hated the defendant so much, they had to hurry him before the bench.
Once again falling into a Trump trap, bug-eyed Dems gave the president another chance for a victory dance on their prostrate posteriors. The Times of London ran a two-panel editorial cartoon showing an angry Pelosi ripping up his speech text on the left, followed by a smirking Trump ripping up the impeachment articles on the right.
And the London-based Daily Telegraph had a cartoon depicting a hopeless little Democratic cabin cruiser at sea, slipping beneath the waves of Trump’s mighty hair.
The risible suggestion by some commentators that Trump’s empowerment was due to Americans’ longing for an “authoritarian leader” showed how far from reality this chattering class had become.
And to read such an accusation hurled from overseas on February 5 by German newspaper writer Andreas Ross, of Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, only prompts one to say: Hey, Andreas, it was you folks who did a good job of bowing to your own authoritarian leader, and our U.S. soldiers who helped shake you out of it.
You show an American voter an authoritarian, and the voter probably either will kick him in the rear or just dismiss him as another babbling Democrat Party theorist.
Pelosi may have “fidgeted like a third-grader with an attention-deficit disorder” during the State of the Union, as commentator Roger L. Simon wrote at The Epoch Times, but the president went down a checklist sure to please tens of millions of Americans who saw he paid attention to their concerns.
Many Reaganesque Themes
Quin Hillyer, a conservative commentator critical of Trump, was impressed with the president’s presentation. Noting some of the accomplishments Trump listed, Hillyer posted at the Washington Examiner site on February 4:
“Trump highlighted all these successes and more in clear, compelling language. He also made a strong case for conservative social values by highlighting a child who survived a birth at less than 22 weeks of gestation, featuring a student who would benefit from school choice, and sharply delineating the dangerous result of ‘sanctuary city’ policies that provide safe haven even for criminal aliens.
“While the scowl and the tone of voice were anything but warm and inclusive, much of the language and many of the themes were Reaganesque,” he added.
Drawing toward a conclusion, Hillyer wrote: “There are those of us who think Trump is not just distasteful in personality but corrupt and ultimately dangerous. Even so, the case he made Tuesday night was powerful. It helps to show why he will be a formidable candidate for reelection. Many of the Trump-Pence policies are good ones, and Trump’s pride in these United States is very welcome.”
Trump ranged from welcoming to the chamber Juan Guaido, the acting president of Venezuela against left-wing dictator Nicolas Maduro, to looking forward to the U.S. being the first nation to plant a flag on Mars. He criticized sanctuary cities and states that harbor illegal-alien criminals, presumably irking Pelosi, whose home state of California willingly attracts such lawbreakers, who proceed to assault citizens there.
He denounced foreign terrorists such as those who killed kidnapped Arizonan Kayla Mueller in her mid-20s, and gave an honorary promotion to brigadier general for 100-year-old Tuskegee airman Charles McGee.
The president bragged about the economic and military recovery of the U.S. under his administration, promoted school choice while noting that a Democratic governor had vetoed legislation enabling it, and opposed the opioid epidemic.
A Cute Face
Mollie Hemingway, a senior editor at The Federalist site, listed “13 key takeaways from President Trump’s epic State of the Union address.” They included “The blue-collar boom,” “Overt outreach to black Americans,” “Boldness unmatched by any other Republican president,” and “Putting an incredibly cute face to victims of late-term abortion.”
Hemingway wrote: “One of the most touching moments of the speech was the introduction of Ellie Schneider, born at 21 weeks, and her mother, Robin. The 2-year-old yawned a huge yawn as she was introduced to the nation in the arms of her devoted mother. It was a reminder that children like Ellie are born at a time when it is legal to kill them in utero. . . .
“This issue is particularly salient as Democrats more openly support late-term abortion, support allowing children who survive abortion attempts to die, and support exiling pro-life voters from their ranks,” Hemingway wrote.
If Republicans seem stronger on the path to victory, perhaps it’s because they know the right way, while Democrats insist on keeping themselves befuddled. As I wrote in The Wanderer right after Trump’s State of the Union address in 2019:
“Bad Catholic and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, seated directly behind Trump as befits her office, repeatedly did that thing of twisting her mouth when her ears are unhappy, like her disrespectful tongue wants to stick itself out but her lips are fighting to keep a clamp on displaying her disdain for decency and moderation.
“Pelosi did her twist when Trump explicitly explained the damaging facts about massive illegal immigration for 13 minutes of his 82-minute address. She did it again when old caveman Trump criticized slaughtering innocent babies that Pelosi’s enlightened elite loves to do. Leftists may not like traditional religion, but they know what they worship.”
