And so it begins. The war against God and the Church is launched anew under the aegis of a man described by his new press secretary as a “devout Catholic.” The bishops lobbed the first answering volley on the day of the Inauguration:
“…Our new President has pledged to pursue certain policies that would advance moral evils and threaten human life and dignity, most seriously in the areas of abortion, contraception, marriage, and gender. Of deep concern is the liberty of the Church and the freedom of believers to live according to their consciences.”

On January 20 a third Obama term began.
Biden is a puppet who will obediently implement all of the anti-God, anti-family policies of the evil men and women who pull the strings. His Catholic faith, what there is of it, will have absolutely no influence whatsoever on his actions and decisions as president. Yes, Biden was baptized a Catholic but at a certain point, when his career became inexorably intertwined with the wealth and power of the abortion industry among other evils, he turned his back on God.
Compounding the confusion and scandal of his sin, however, Biden continued to attend Mass, which should be helping him return to God, and receiving Communion, which in his case of public scandal is absolutely forbidden. This is the fault of the bishops who deny Christ their Lord by giving him Communion instead of exercising the ordinary witness of having an uncomfortable conversation.
For years Biden has been enabled by bishops who ordered their priests to give him Communion, and removed or transferred those who refused to follow such immoral and scandalous indirection.
The bishops’ statement is a good first step. And a correction of sorts. The silence of the lambs led to the slaughter of abortion and this is compounded by the sins of those who have voices and refuse to use them. Our Christianity is lived by witness in which all means are exhausted up until the point at which our ability to speak and act is taken away by whatever methods, whether Twitter silencing, other methods of the cancel culture, prison, or death.
The inaction and neglect of the bishops is having a catastrophic effect at the parish level, as demonstrated by a recent incident, a sign that some Catholics may be losing their sanity as well as their faith.
When a Catholic pounds on the sacristy door after Sunday Mass and begins an outburst by blurting out something about divorce with tears in their eyes it may be politics, and not personal, as was my experience recently.
The man, though clearly in distress, was not revealing a personal tragedy, I soon learned much to my relief, but I was chagrined nevertheless to discover that his purpose in launching on the subject was an attempt to compare and contrast two politicians.
He was bringing up divorce as a reason for opposing a pro-life politician. No dice: In our Catholic calculus the broken marriage of one politician doesn’t outweigh the desire to support murder on the part of another politician, as weighed in the balance of comparison between the two.
And it led me to think that, if you’ve begun to agree with spin doctors and leftist talking heads that divorce is worse than support for abortion, or discounts a right to participate in our political life, you may have lost your mind as well as your faith.
Sixty percent of the population is now divorced: that would discount a lot of people from running for office and would require the removal of a number of people currently in office.
Yes, divorce can be a sin, but it isn’t a crime that calls out to Heaven for vengeance as does ongoing, continued support for abortion during all nine months of pregnancy, and in some cases after birth, which amounts to infanticide.
Someone who is pro-life now can repent of a past divorce. That is all the Lord asks.
If you no longer grasp this basic distinction between these two human issues then you have been brainwashed by those who have absolutely nothing in common with our Catholic faith and, at the same time, with the truth.
Some sanity broke through the fog of confusion affecting even our bishops’ conference in November 2019 when they were willing to restate the truth that abortion is the “preeminent issue.” Fighting legal child murder, a/k/a abortion, and overturning Roe v. Wade, continue to be a primary concern for all Catholics who wish to be so in good standing.
The Truth demands it. He who legislated “Thou shalt not kill” demands it. Abortion kills.
While on the subject of abortion, the March for Life, which we learned this month will be a “virtual event,” is not an opportunity for “Catholic pro-life leaders” to promote themselves by canceling the March for everybody else and then showing up on the day for a photo opportunity. That is very far from the intention of Nellie Gray in founding the March.
Canceling the March for Life when people on the left are given carte blanche at the same time to gather in public is setting a dangerous precedent. Catholics and others of goodwill should push back against being canceled — we need to stand up to the anti-culture of death by showing up, now more than ever.
Agreeing not to gather in peaceful protest begins a process on a continuum that under our cancel culture leads inexorably to further and further silencing.
Nellie Gray founded the March so that every born human being could have an opportunity to witness together on behalf of every fellow unborn human being. The vast crowd at the March each year is the Lord’s most eloquent statement that every human life, without exception, is sacred and that every human person that can speak up must do so for those in the womb who have no voice.
Now that Trump is out of office, all the leftists are calling for opening everything back up. This could mean we are now, ironically, in effect canceling ourselves.
Submitting our necks to the yoke of the cancel culture is not leadership at all. And it’s not following the Lord either.
