On Inertia, Hunters, Preaching, And Truth

By FR. JAMES ALTMAN

Dear family, please allow me to urge you to overcome the inertia — which means an object at rest will stay at rest unless some force is applied to move it. So let me urge you to overcome the inertia of sitting and doing nothing because, firstly, the words, “Here I am Lord, I’ve come to do your will,” should be on our lips always, and secondly, as we have heard, all it takes for evil to succeed is for good people to do nothing. In other words, our succumbing to inertia is the explanation for why so much evil has succeeded in this world.

Dear family, we must overcome inertia if we really are serious about building our spiritual arks.

So to start, I have a little hunting humor to share with you. Three friends throw on their blaze orange and head out into the woods: a banker, a lawyer, and a preacher. They take up their spots in their blinds, and wait. Sure enough, along comes the Big Buck. Bang. Bang. Bang. Three shots ring out simultaneously and the buck drops in his tracks.

Maybe you, like me, have been out in the woods and heard such shots. I’ve had to train myself to say, “Thank you Lord…that hunter must have needed that buck more than me!” We actually could say that about a lot of things in life about which we experience jealousy and envy.

Back to the Big Buck, the three friends all rush over and closely inspect it — a massive 16 pointer — but they only find one bullet wound. So who shot the buck? Who gets the trophy? They can’t figure it out.

Thankfully, about that time, along comes the game warden. He heard all the noise and the excitement. He dutifully inspects their licenses. Everyone was legit. Then they tell him they can’t figure out who shot the buck. So the Game Warden goes over to the buck and he also examines it closely.

Then he gets up and looks at the three hunters. He says to the first guy, “What do you do for a living?” and the guy answers, “I’m a banker.” The Warden asks the second guy, and he replies, “I’m a lawyer.” So the Warden asks the third guy, “What do you do for a living?” and the man replies, “I’m a preacher.”

“That’s it!” the Game Warden exclaimed. “You’re the one who shot the buck!” And all of them were amazed, so they asked, “How do you know it was the preacher?” “Just look,” answered the Game Warden, “just look at the bullet wound! It had to be the preacher because the shot went in one ear and out the other!”

Dear family, there’s so much Truth for so many Catholics in that joke. Not you, the reader, of course, because you are “listening” intently to every word I say! But the reality is that it is the truth for so many Catholics that the Sacred Scriptures and the Sacred Tradition handed down to us from Jesus through 2,000 years of saints and martyrs — just goes in one ear and out the other. And that is if, and it is a big if in our times, truth is even spoken by those responsible for speaking it most clearly. And that big if applies even more when so many church doors have been locked by governmental fiat, or the size of congregations has been severely limited.

So, dear family, part one of our meditation is: that we now find ourselves undergoing a regime change that bodes ill for the 3,000 more babies who will be sacrificed each day. It bodes ill for the Little Sisters of the Poor. It bodes ill for every faithful Catholic in the U.S. We now face a socialist regime that bodes ill for the free exercise of our Catholic faith. So let us let a few things go in one of our ears — and stay there.

Firstly, as it relates to what the atheist Bill Maher said: “We cannot sanitize the universe.” Any and all disproportionate means to allegedly try to do so — means that have resulted in the destruction of the global economy, resulting in poverty, anguish, and suicide — is Godless and anti-Catholic. The “cure” cannot be worse than the disease. Much of what we are witnessing in this fear-demic is a product of Godless media propaganda.

Dear family, as you have heard me say before, if the “lockdown” worked, why is there any need for another? And if the “lockdown” did not work, why would there be any need for another?

Let us use the brains God gave us and understand that anyone who is so depraved that he supports the live human sacrifice of babies is not fit to govern over us on anything, including our health. Dear family, to say so is not politics, and it is not being too political. To say so is to be a faithful Catholic.

So here’s something to think about. They had doctors back when Jesus walked among us. In fact, St. Luke was a doctor. So how about when Jesus knew He was going to ascend to Heaven, instead of going around and healing people of every disease — like He did — why didn’t Jesus call a few doctors instead of fishermen, and teach them a little inside information about infectious diseases so they could go out to all the world and heal them of their physical illnesses? Oh yeah, that’s right. Because Jesus actually said go baptize all peoples of all places for all time — and teach them everything I taught you — about salvation of souls. Jesus did not tell people to lock down and mask up. Jesus went to the sick, and He touched them.

Dear family, the Godless and dehumanizing effect of all that has happened is so destroying the social fabric that nothing is going to stop the next round of rioting, looting, burning, and shooting — except massive government policing — which is exactly what the Godless powers want to establish. They know they cannot just force such totalitarian policing on us, but they can create situations whereby we actually will ask them to take away our liberties to “protect” us. This is why nobody is objecting to the buildup of military in Washington, D.C., and elsewhere.

That is why the Godless leaders are so keen on reducing the human population under the Big Lie of the climate change hoax — because, in their minds, we are a blight on the ecology of the Earth! But we know, as faithful Catholics, that Almighty God the Creator of the Universe, gets to decide when there are too many people on planet Earth, not some Godless scientist.

So, remember the hunting humor of in one ear and out the other. Year after year we hear these great stories from Sacred Scripture and too often it seems they go in one ear and out the other. The bottom line of all Sacred Scripture is carrying our own crosses daily, to our own moments on Calvary, to our own resurrection unto eternal life.

Dear family, we have suffered and died to the world as Jesus did. But until we have suffered and died for the world as Jesus did — nothing will change. If we just sit back — immobilized by inertia as the world continues to devolve into Godlessness — well then, we only have ourselves to blame as all hell breaks loose — as indeed it seems it already has.
