A Leaven In The World… God’s Rule Exorcises Evil

Evil spirits usually make loud screeching and howling sounds as they depart from the exorcised body, politic or otherwise. They make it is painful as possible for anyone who refuses to cooperate with their malign agenda.
To say it plainly, our nation has not only flirted with evil but for many years has advocated and legislated evil. The resulting counterattacks come in the theater when the pro-life vice president-elect decides to take in a play with his family, in the media with the peddling of lies, and on streets with the Soros-funded operative protesters.
The point of laws is that none of us likes to be told what to do. Despite the efforts of the abortionists, there will always be more than one of us and therefore we have to learn to live together. This means that there have to be shared rules of conduct that some will not like and others will go further to break.
One of the Devil’s lies is that there are some actions without consequences. The same God who gave us the Ten Commandments also lovingly shared the truth that this is not so. A look at the Book of Genesis and the bitter results for Adam and Eve from their bite of the forbidden fruit serves to teach us this.
We who have been catechized as Christians about the Ten Commandments will hopefully never find the need for laws too unbearable a surprise. For him whose name is Legion and for those who march under his banner laws, will always remain a painful bridling upon their disobedience.
When a body is so close to evil as to be espoused to it, this amounts to being possessed by the evil one. All of the other immoral laws and social agendas appear to be racing to catch up with the legalization of the slaughter of the unborn in 1973 by an unlawful and sweeping ruling by the Supreme Court.
And now, as our president-elect begins negotiating with his prospective picks who will help him lead the country, the exorcism of the body politic has begun with the consequent wailing and gnashing of teeth on the part of those who are in love with evil.
It’s no accident that the Catholics who happen to be among the incumbent commander-in-chief’s possible allies are real Catholics: pro-life Catholics as opposed to the fake and bad Catholics who always end up as the darlings of the abortion party and as vice-presidential nominees and elected vice presidents.
The bullying from the left which has accelerated after the election is having an effect on the Church because the government has long involved itself in morals, and thus usurped the Church as teacher for God. Entitled types just cannot let go even in a free society of whatever they have that has been bought by the work of others.
New cardinals recently named in Rome, one of whom opposed Vice President-elect Pence on immigration issues, are not at all grateful that after many years we are about to get a little help on the pro-life issue in the White House. They sing only the song of faithless social justice warriors on the left for whom the unborn are invisible and thus forgotten in zeal only to defend the poor who enter our borders illegally.
When it comes to the faith, the enemies of my enemies cannot be my friends if they hate Christ and His Church. All too often our fellow travelers in the cause of social justice are no friends to Catholics and spare no effort in attacking the Church.
Some churchmen seem to rue only the prospect of tension with lawmakers over areas where nonbinding Catholic teaching is at play: immigration, the death penalty, and other life-after-birth issues. Often, a blanket appeal to the needs of the poor hides some nefarious agendas. Thus we have a duty to inform ourselves as to where our help, financial and otherwise, is actually going.
We all know the story of community organizers, some famous and some not so, who may have actually worked at a desk in a Catholic office thanks to a paycheck funded wholly or in part with monies funneled from parish offertory collections. One of the new cardinals comes from a city famous for nursing such enemies of the Church.
Aiding the poor is central to our task and an ongoing work of service in the Church. Hunger, homelessness, joblessness, all the other after-birth life issues are, however, like apples and oranges in comparison to abortion.
If the choices before us ever force us to opt between the unborn and other social justice concerns, then we must choose the unborn and the fight against abortion in first place.
Serving the poor is serving Christ. The Pope is able to hire a fulltime almoner; most parish priests are not so blessed.
Recently I turned to a young man whom I had been helping on and off for over a week, first to find a place for his boat which is his home, after which he informed me had a truck that needed repair, and then that his personal items were locked in a second vehicle. As his needs were revealed to be more and more complex, I looked at him and said, “I don’t think I can work for you full-time.”
Humor can help us as we actively love the poor. He laughed with me as I asked him to work with another parishioner to seek solutions for his personal needs.
We do work for the poor: They are our bosses because Jesus Christ is our boss. In them we see, love, and serve Christ our God who was homeless, poor, and hungry, and died naked upon the holy cross. But parish priests also must budget their time in order to serve the needs of the whole community.
Thank goodness we also have generous parishioners who are able to share in the work of the corporal and spiritual works of mercy so that a greater number of souls can be served, always with a view to their salvation because in them we serve and see their sole Savior.
