Archbishop Cordileone’s Response to Speaker Pelosi’s Comments About Pro-Life Voters

January 22, 2021 breaking, Uncategorized Comments Off on Archbishop Cordileone’s Response to Speaker Pelosi’s Comments About Pro-Life Voters

On Monday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi criticized prolife voters who voted for Donald Trump on the abortion issue, saying their votes cause her “great grief as a Catholic” and accusing them of “being willing to sell the whole democracy down the river for that one issue.” Most Reverend Salvatore J. Cordileone, Archbishop of San Francisco, issued the following statement in response: “To begin with the obvious: Nancy Pelosi does not speak for the Catholic Church.  She speaks as a high-level important government leader, and as a private citizen.  And on the question of the equal dignity of human life in the womb, she also speaks in direct contradiction to a fundamental human right that Catholic teaching has consistently championed for…Continue Reading

Mom

By JOSEPH MATT                 Today we live in a culture that derides and denigrates the noble and essential role of motherhood in our society. One need look no further than the scourge of abortion for proof – in today’s world motherhood is no longer held in high esteem even ridiculed and outright rejected in the case of abortion. In any God fearing civil society, it can be argued motherhood is one of the greatest accomplishments attainable for a woman – after all, the greatest triumph of any human was done so by a woman – we know her as the Mother of Jesus.  How many great men and woman throughout history credit the influence of their mother for their character…Continue Reading

All eyes on Roberts ahead of Supreme Court’s abortion ruling

June 22, 2020 breaking, Uncategorized Comments Off on All eyes on Roberts ahead of Supreme Court’s abortion ruling

Chief Justice John Roberts is under the microscope as the Supreme Court prepares to issue its first major ruling on abortion rights in the Trump era, which will give the clearest indication yet of the court’s willingness to revisit protections that were first granted in Roe v. Wade. The tie-breaking vote may rest with Roberts, and the case stands to test his role as the court’s new ideological center as well as his allegiance to past rulings.

Lion, Lamb and Light: On the Centenary of the Birth of Pope St. John Paul II

Deacon Keith Fournier   Today, May 18, we commemorate the Centenary, the 100-year anniversary of the birth of Pope St. John Paul II. I offer this article I wrote years ago when he passed to the Fathers House. I also rededicate myself to doing everything I can to keep his beautiful legacy alive during these difficult years in the Church which he loved and served with such beauty. —– I was not alone on that day. It seemed as though the whole world was joined with me, watching and weeping, as the servant of the servants of God, the polish Pope who began his stunning and historic pontificate as a lion, went home to the Heavenly Father as a lamb.…Continue Reading

The Baptism in the Jordan: The Theophany. Why Was Jesus Baptized?

January 9, 2020 Frontpage, Uncategorized Comments Off on The Baptism in the Jordan: The Theophany. Why Was Jesus Baptized?

By Deacon Keith Fournier   In the Catholic Church we end the Christmas season this Sunday with the Feast of the Lord’s Baptism in the Jordan. Some of the most beautiful readings in the Office of Readings are found in the Liturgy of the Hours, the official prayer of the whole church, on the days between the Feast of the Epiphany and the Baptism of the Lord. The Liturgy of the Hours is also called the Breviary. It is the sort of baseline prayer of all Clergy, Bishops, Priests and deacons, as well as those in the consecrated life. However, since the last great Church Council, Vatican II this official Prayer of the Church is recommended for all Christians –…Continue Reading

January 6, 2020 (LifeSiteNews) – Planned Parenthood’s latest annual report reveals it aborted 345,672 babies and received just over $616 million from taxpayers during its 2018 to 2019 fiscal year. Planned Parenthood also distributed over 2 million contraceptives during that time, many of which have the potential to act as abortifacients. Planned Parenthood’s main sources of taxpayer money come from Medicaid, Title X (from which Planned Parenthood has since withdrawn in protest of modestly pro-life Trump administration regulations), state family planning slush funds, and sex ed grants. According to a Live Action analysis, Planned Parenthood’s taxpayer funding has increased by nearly 70 percent since 2008. Its total revenue was over $1.6 billion and its net assets were almost $2 billion. The…Continue Reading

A Shepherd For Our Time

By JOSEPH MATT Into all of the darkness and despair that have overwhelmed the Catholic Church this past month enters a shepherd who stands tall among his peers. His actions and words are representative of a man who stands for what God called him to be — a shepherd. Bishop Robert Morlino issued a letter to the members of his Diocese of Madison, Wis., this past week addressing the latest Church scandal. In his letter the good bishop short-circuits any excuse-ridden happy talk and the tired PR speak, which the lay faithful have become so accustomed to hearing from our hierarchy. Bishop Morlino addresses the current scandal in the Church, pulling no punches as to what the root of the…Continue Reading
