Catholics Gone Wild

As if Pope Francis didn’t already have most of us nervous, here comes another curveball from Rome.
The Pope just announced a 13-member commission (good thing we Catholics don’t believe in bad luck omens like the number 13), who will discuss and study the possibility of having female deacons in the Church.
This must be great news to all of the busybody pantsuit types who like to push priests aside and try to run parishes.
Altar girls across liberal Catholic American parishes (like Tim Kaine’s) can now also aspire to become deacons when they grow up.
What this latest from the Pontiff mainly does is encourage the misguided women who truly want to become priests. It simply stokes their desire to pressure the Church to allow for the ordination of women.
But the Pope shouldn’t raise false hopes in these women. This only brings more conflict and division to an already fractured Church which is in need of much healing and unity. We have enough adversaries outside the Church. The last thing we need is to create even more maelstroms within our own Church.
Speaking of “misguided,” the latest “Catholic” politician to go off the rails is none other than Vice President Joseph R. Biden.
Just this past week, Biden officiated his very first wedding. “Married” were two White House staffers named Brian and Joe. How lovely for Joe and the newlyweds.
The slimy New York Magazine website even gushed: “Joe Biden Officiates Wedding of World’s Luckiest Couple.”
Catholics are not allowed to attend a same-sex wedding — let alone officiating one.
Apparently old Uncle Joe received a temporary certification from the District of Columbia to perform this mockery of a wedding. Tweeting out pictures on Twitter, Biden said, “Proud to marry Brian and Joe at my house. Couldn’t be happier, two longtime White House staffers, two great guys.”
Does this man still receive Holy Communion? Who is his pastor? Why hasn’t he been excommunicated?
While I’m tempted to ask, as Pope Francis is cited as saying, “Who am I to judge?,” I will not.
I am calling you out, Joe Biden! I am calling you out in the same way I hope my fellow Catholics who love me and care about my eternal soul would also call me out when I cross the line! What were you thinking, Mr. Vice President? Do you realize the gravity of your actions here?
This is why Catholicism in America has us contracepting and aborting our babies at rates not that distinguishable from other Christian denominations in America. This is why people do not take our faith seriously. How can anyone else take us seriously or respect us when we can’t even take our own faith seriously?
Once again during the upcoming presidential election, we’ll have willfully ignorant Catholics voting for the likes of rabid pro-abortion radicals like Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine, another CINO (Catholic in Name Only).
And, not to be outdone by himself, the Holy Father also ruffled quite a few feathers, including mine, when he said last week that we should not speak about Islamic violence if we don’t also speak about Catholic violence.
Sometimes Pope Francis sounds like he just doesn’t get it. How many Catholics must be beheaded or torched alive, and how many priests need to be sacrificed on our own church altars, before he understands that radical Muslims are not our friends?
Even ISIS makes clear their hatred and disdain for us in their propaganda publication Dabiq: “Francis continues to hide behind a deceptive veil of ‘good will,’ covering his actual intentions of pacifying the Muslim nation.”
The article goes on to say, “While previous popes spoke against Islam due to the actual reality they faced, based on mutual enmity between the pagan Christians and monotheistic Muslims, recent popes — and especially Pope Francis — have attempted to paint a picture of heartwarming friendship, seeking to steer Muslim masses away from the obligation of waging jihad against disbelief.”
So there you have it, folks. From our Pope to our elected officials here in the United States, we have what appears to be an increasing amount of misdirection, deliberate confusion, misrepresentation of our faith and her teachings, and the danger of more lost souls.
I jokingly titled this column “Catholics Gone Wild” just because I like to write catchy headings in hopes of drawing a reader’s attention with a popular culture reference or a play on words. In actuality, I should have called this column “On the Highway to Hell,” another pop culture reference, but with the gravest urgency.
I guess “Catholics Gone Wild” is a good heading after all because I am referring to the secular and immoral wilderness we are all in danger of getting lost in — even our Church leaders.
In the meantime, what are our children to make of a Pope who makes careless statements to the media, in effect diminishing the importance and value of the Catholic Church? I know some of you don’t like me saying any of this, but somebody has to say it.
As to political “Catholics” like Joe Biden and vice-presidential candidate Tim Kaine, they are all leading us down a very frightening path. How much longer will we enable “Catholic” politicians to mock our faith in the public square?
Where is the child in us like the boy in the Hans Christian Andersen tale The Emperor’s New Clothes, who shouts out the obvious when everyone else is afraid to?
Pray and pray very hard for Pope Francis and for people like Biden and Kaine because we are supposed to hold each other accountable, and pray for each other while we are here on earth. If people are waiting for the Holy War to start again, let me tell you that it never ended, it’s just heating up again real hot right now.
Onward Christian soldiers!
