By TREVOR THOMAS (Editor’s Note: LifeSiteNews reprinted this with permission from American Thinker. All rights reserved.) + + + (American Thinker) — According to Real Clear Politics, in spite of the economy and everything else going well in the United States of America, almost every current national poll has President Trump trailing a hypothetical Democrat opponent. Whether Biden; Sanders; Warren; or even Buttigieg, Bloomberg, or Klobuchar, President Trump trails them all in nearly every poll. As of this writing, the latest general election national poll by CNN, IBD/TIPP, Emerson, Fox News, Quinnipiac, and SurveyUSA has President Trump behind almost every possible Democrat candidate. In 32 different matchups from the six polling agencies previously mentioned, President Trump leads in only two…Continue Reading

The End Of Pro-Life Democrats

February 17, 2020 Featured Today Comments Off on The End Of Pro-Life Democrats

By BILL DONOHUE When I taught in a Catholic elementary school in Spanish Harlem in the 1970s, I quoted to my African American and Puerto Rican students what Rev. Jesse Jackson said about abortion: It was genocide against black people. Sen. Ted Kennedy also railed against abortion, as did virtually every Democrat. The pro-abortion party was the Republicans, home to WASP elites like the Rockefellers who saw abortion as a way to resolve “the urban problem.” That’s why their lavish funding of Planned Parenthood wound up establishing clinics in minority neighborhoods. But by the end of the 1970s, the parties flipped: Republicans became pro-life and the Democrats became pro-abortion. They did so because of religious reasons. Evangelicals, most of whom…Continue Reading

The Alpha And The Omega Of A Black History Lesson

February 16, 2020 Featured Today Comments Off on The Alpha And The Omega Of A Black History Lesson

By DONALD DeMARCO The following article chronicles a triumph of justice, and in so doing, establishes a basis for hope. It also makes clear that particular United States Supreme Court decisions do not always have the last word on moral issues. What may be called “Supreme” is not necessarily final. On February 12, 2009, Keith Plessy and Phoebe Ferguson, descendants of both sides of the infamous 1896 Plessy v. Ferguson U.S. Supreme Court decision, announced the establishment of the Plessy Ferguson Foundation for Education and Reconciliation. The aim of the foundation is to teach the history of the 1896 case and its effects on the American people. “It is no longer Plessy v. Ferguson,” said Keith Plessy in a radio…Continue Reading

Long Before Trump, We Were A Divided People

February 15, 2020 Featured Today Comments Off on Long Before Trump, We Were A Divided People

By PATRICK J. BUCHANAN When have Republicans ever exhibited the home-team enthusiasm they demonstrated during that State of the Union address and the post-acquittal gathering in the East Room? When have working and middle-class voters shown such support for a Republican as they do for Trump at his mammoth rallies? In a way, Donald Trump might be called The Great Uniter. Bear with me. No Republican president in the lifetime of this writer, not even Ronald Reagan, united the party as did Trump in the week of his acquittal in the Senate and State of the Union address. According to the Gallup Poll, 94 percent of Republicans approve of his handling of his presidency, in his fourth year, despite the…Continue Reading

Cardinal Barbarin . . . Acquitted By Appeal Court Of Failing To Report Abuse

February 14, 2020 Featured Today Comments Off on Cardinal Barbarin . . . Acquitted By Appeal Court Of Failing To Report Abuse

LYON, France (CNA) — Philippe Cardinal Barbarin has been acquitted by a French appeals court of failing to report sexual abuse by a diocesan priest. The archbishop of Lyon was convicted in March 2019, of “of non-denunciation of ill-treatment” of a minor and given a six-month suspended prison sentence. The decision January 30 by the appeals court in Lyon was reached after prosecutors in the case sought the cardinal’s vindication. The cardinal’s lawyer called the result “logical,” saying that Barbarin had been the subject of “calumny” over the course of the trial. At the time of his conviction in March last year, five other archdiocesan officials on trial with Barbarin were acquitted. Barbarin’s acquittal was widely expected on appeal…Continue Reading

Liberalism And The End Of Virtue

February 12, 2020 Featured Today Comments Off on Liberalism And The End Of Virtue

By PAUL KRAUSE (Editor’s Note: Paul Krause has written several articles that have appeared in The Wanderer. He is a senior contributor to The Imaginative Conservative.) + + + As liberalism becomes more realized than at any other moment in time, virtue is the one quality in men and society that is chased away more and more vigorously. Instead of bringing about the end of history, liberalism has wrought the end of virtue. Indeed, anyone who promotes virtue is seen as a proto-fascist, if not an outright authoritarian intent on the destruction of “liberty” and “tolerance.” Many people have been lied to about the nature and end of liberalism. We are told that liberalism is about tolerance, free speech, open…Continue Reading

Failed Coup Of A Failing Establishment

February 11, 2020 Featured Today Comments Off on Failed Coup Of A Failing Establishment

By PATRICK J. BUCHANAN (Editor’s Note: This column by Patrick J. Buchanan was released on February 4, before Trump’s acquittal and before his historic speech to the National Prayer Breakfast.) + + + It has been a bad few days for the establishment, really bad. In a 51-49 vote, the Senate refused to call witnesses in the impeachment trial of Donald Trump and agreed to end the trial Wednesday [February 5], with a near-certain majority vote to acquit the president of all charges. As weekend polls show socialist Bernie Sanders surging into the lead for the nomination in the states of Iowa, New Hampshire, and California, the sense of panic among Democratic Party elites is palpable. Former Secretary of State…Continue Reading

A Mind-Numbing Contradiction… Kansas Supreme Court’s Tyrannical Pro-Abortion Ruling

By FR. FRANK PAVONE (Editor’s Note: Fr. Frank Pavone has served full-time in pro-life leadership since 1993, with his bishop’s permission. He is the national director of Priests for Life, and also the president of the National Pro-Life Religious Council, and the national pastoral director of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign and of Rachel’s Vineyard, the world’s largest ministry of post-abortion healing. He wrote this essay for LifeSiteNews, where it was posted on February 4.) + + + (LifeSiteNews) — St. John Paul II wrote that when a state legalizes abortion, “[a]t that point, everything is negotiable, everything is open to bargaining….The State is no longer the ‘common home’ where all can live together on the basis of principles…Continue Reading

Should Catholic Politicians Be A Little More Pagan?

February 9, 2020 Featured Today Comments Off on Should Catholic Politicians Be A Little More Pagan?

By DONALD DeMARCO Medicina Pastoralis (Manual of Pastoral Medicine, 1877) is a work judged by scholars to be of sufficient importance to be reprinted again and again, and as recently as 2019. Editor Carl Franz Nicolaus Capellmann makes the claim that by the end of the nineteenth century, Christian civilization had almost eradicated abortion. A staggering reversal, however, has taken place since Dr. Capellmann offered this statement. In 2019 there were approximately 42 million abortions worldwide. Moreover, many Christians have been ardent proponents of abortion. In North America, many politicians in high places who call themselves Catholic have been in the front lines in the war against the unborn. This reversal has been brought about by a multitude of factors.…Continue Reading

Everything Is Coming Up Trump

February 8, 2020 Featured Today Comments Off on Everything Is Coming Up Trump

By NEIL PATEL As Speaker Nancy Pelosi tore up President Donald Trump’s State of the Union speech page by page, she put the finishing touches on one of the greatest political rehab jobs of all time. The Democrats have managed to turn Trump into a thoroughly sympathetic figure. From the start, Trump has not been treated like a normal president by people on either end of the political spectrum. On the left, Trump is viewed as a fascist, un-American monster, thoroughly unprepared for and undeserving of the highest office in our land. They never accepted his election and never gave him a chance — angling for impeachment even before Trump was sworn into office. On the other side, for a…Continue Reading
