In our post-sexual revolution culture, the procreative act is now considered to be recreational, with a battery of pills, rubbers, and other measures ensuring that no unwanted offspring arrive; if they do, there are always abortionists willing to scrape the…Continue Reading

By JAMES MONTI A Book Review: Blessed Charles of Austria: A Holy Emperor and His Legacy, by Charles Coulombe. TAN Books, Gastonia, NC, 2020. + + In his Gospel account of the Holy Family’s flight into Egypt, St. Matthew relates that the admonition to leave the land of Israel was addressed by an angel to St. Joseph in a dream (Matt. 2:13). It is not without significance that this message came not to our Lady but rather to Joseph. By WALTER SANCHEZ SILVA LIMA, Peru (CNA) — Archbishop Carlos Castillo Mattasoglio of Lima, Peru, has yet to clarify remarks he made in a pre-Christmas Mass that contradict the teaching of the Catholic Church about Jesus’ death. The Catechism of the Catholic Church affirms that Jesus is “the true priest” whose death is “a redemptive sacrifice.”Speaking on December 19, however, Castillo stated that Jesus died as “a layman,” and did so without offering a “sacrifice.”“And Jesus doesn’t die offering the sacrifice of a holocaust, Jesus dies as a murdered layman, to which He decides not to respond with vengeance and who accepts the cross to give us a sign of life,” the archbishop said during Mass in the Lima cathedral.“And He…Continue Reading
