A Leaven In The World… Truth Is Not Discrimination

September 7, 2015 Our Catholic Faith Comments Off on A Leaven In The World… Truth Is Not Discrimination

By FR. KEVIN M. CUSICK The boredom of vast sectors of society with marriage and family life as the Church teaches in Christ is abundantly evident. Many Catholics, on life support with a mere vestigial or cultural relationship with Church teaching, identify more with the Godless agenda than with the voices of our bishops. Beginning with the gutting of marriage in the 1960s through the popularization of contraception, fertility has increasingly been rejected as being a liability instead of a blessing. The profoundly anti-God and anti-human agenda, enabled by abundant availability of contraception and abortion, has in turn fed into other phenomena which serve to enable and glamorize marriages which are sterile by choice. Pope Francis has condemned the rejection…Continue Reading

Apologetics Course . . . To Whom Did Christ Give The Authority To Preach His Message?

September 6, 2015 Our Catholic Faith Comments Off on Apologetics Course . . . To Whom Did Christ Give The Authority To Preach His Message?

By RAYMOND DE SOUZA Part 18 So far we have seen that Jesus Christ is a unique Man in History, who claimed to be the Son of God, one in nature with God the Father, and who laid down His life for His claim, which was directed to the glory of God and the salvation of souls. But He did not remain with those whom He converted. What did He leave behind? A message of salvation to mankind. Fine. But how did He leave that message? A baptized non-Catholic will immediately say, “He left us the Bible!” Oh, did He really? But He never wrote any book of the New Testament! Those books were written by His apostles and disciples…Continue Reading

Bishops Teach, Sanctify, And Govern

September 5, 2015 Our Catholic Faith Comments Off on Bishops Teach, Sanctify, And Govern

By DON FIER The college of bishops, as we saw last week, consists of the entire body of bishops of the Roman Catholic Church united under the Pope as an episcopal community. “This community of pope and bishops, and the bishops among themselves,” explains Fr. John A. Hardon, SJ, “was created by Christ and therefore belongs, by divine right, to the nature of the Church He founded” (The Faith, p. 92). As successors to the apostles, “individual bishops . . . are the visible principle and foundation of unity in their particular churches” (Lumen Gentium [LG], n. 23 § 1). As the Successor to St. Peter, who was entrusted with the keys of the Church (cf. Matt. 16:19), the Pope…Continue Reading

Q. The Supreme Court has a history of immoral decisions, such as declaring black slaves as property, permitting credit card companies to charge usurious interest rates, allowing the public sale of contraceptives, okaying the killing of unborn babies, and approving sodomy. What’s next? Polygamy? Incestuous “marriage”? Person-animal “marriage”? It would appear that we are on a par with Sodom of the Bible, and we know what happened to Sodom. Didn’t Sr. Lucia of Fatima indicate that the last evil before the end would involve attacks on the family and, with out-of-wedlock births in this country over 40 percent, it appears that we are quickly approaching the Last Judgment? Your thoughts, please. — R.B.K., via e-mail. A. Ever since Jesus ascended…Continue Reading

Take Up Your Cross

September 3, 2015 Our Catholic Faith Comments Off on Take Up Your Cross

By FR. ROBERT ALTIER Twenty-Fourth Sunday In Ordinary Time (YR B) Readings: Isaiah 50:5-9a James 2:14-18 Mark 8:27-35 Faith is a great gift and, given the times in which we live, it is more necessary than ever that we have our faith. However, in the second reading today St. James says that faith without works is dead. He then gives us the examples of caring for the bodily needs of others as evidence of one’s faith, for example, feeding the poor or clothing the naked. These needs are of obvious importance and they are not to be neglected, but if we look a bit further than that and ask in whom we place our faith and what He did to…Continue Reading

Communiqué Issued at the end of the Pro-Life Conference In Accra, Ghana (August 8-9

September 2, 2015 Our Catholic Faith Comments Off on Communiqué Issued at the end of the Pro-Life Conference In Accra, Ghana (August 8-9

Preamble In response to the increasing violation of the sanctity and dignity of human life and the continuing culture of death in Ghana and around the world, and in line with Pope Francis’ call for the need to sustain and support marriage and family life, the Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, the priests, religious and laity of the Catholic Church in Ghana, convened a two-day International Pro-Life Conference in Accra, from  August 7 to 8, 2015, under the theme, “Protecting Life and Family Values in the Continuing Culture of Death.” The conference brought together participants from every corner of Ghana who discussed a wide range of topics pertaining to the issues of the dignity and sanctity of human life and the…Continue Reading

End Media Blackout On Planned Parenthood Baby Parts Scandal

August 31, 2015 Our Catholic Faith Comments Off on End Media Blackout On Planned Parenthood Baby Parts Scandal

By FR. KEVIN M. CUSICK The baby parts sale scandal at Planned Parenthood is being aided and abetted by another scandal: the refusal of vast portions of the mainstream media to cover the issue. The release of numerous videos that detail the brutal and criminal killing and dismembering even of babies outside of the womb in order to obtain body parts for sale has been routinely ignored for weeks by the big names in television and the press. Catholic News Agency reported that “tens of thousands” protested federal funding of abortion at Planned Parenthood abortion mills across the country last week. Some bishops also took part in demonstrations planned in response to the videos detailing the sale of baby parts…Continue Reading

An Apologetics Course… The Man Jesus — Humanity At Its Perfection

August 30, 2015 Our Catholic Faith Comments Off on An Apologetics Course… The Man Jesus — Humanity At Its Perfection

By RAYMOND DE SOUZA, KM Part 17 What was Jesus like, as a Man? We know about His divinity, we believe in it, but what was He like in His daily life with people in general? We call this topic investigating the Sacred Humanity of Our Lord Jesus Christ, or, more simply, Jesus the Man. In an obscure province of the Roman Empire lived a man who changed the course of history. A carpenter by trade, He spent most of His life making furniture for clients, just like any tradesman of the village. His hands were strong and the skin rough due to the daily work with wood and tools. He never frequented any particular rabbinical school, but had an…Continue Reading

The Episcopal College And The Pope

August 29, 2015 Our Catholic Faith Comments Off on The Episcopal College And The Pope

By DON FIER When Jesus founded the Church, as we saw last week, “He gave her authority and mission, orientation and goal” (Catechism of the Catholic Church [CCC], n. 874). With the overarching objective to ensure that the ministry He introduced during His time on earth would be carried forward until the end of time, Christ organized her along hierarchical lines with the mandate to teach, sanctify, and govern the People of God. As stated concisely by the Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, “Christ instituted an ecclesiastical hierarchy with the mission of feeding the people of God in his name and for this reason gave it authority” (n. 179). The means chosen by Jesus to accomplish this…Continue Reading
