Spadaro  Deborah Castellano Lubov |  Dec 16 |  ZENIT.org Wouldn’t it be great to look up a word in the dictionary to see its significance and application during a pontificate? Well, this was the vision behind Salesian Father Antonio Carriero’s creation, “The Vocabulary of Pope Francis,” published by Elledici on the eve of the Jubilee Year. This work also includes presentations by the Pope’s secretary of state, Cardinal Pietro Parolin; Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi, president of the Pontifical Council for Culture; Mgr. December 14, 2015 World News Comments Off on Pope Francis urges action after Paris climate agreement reached

by Elise Harris Vatican City, Dec 13, 2015 / 06:48 am (CNA/EWTN News).- In his Sunday Angelus address Pope Francis commended world leaders for reaching an agreement in the recently-concluded Paris climate talks, urging the international community promptly put it into action. “The conference on climate has just concluded in Paris with the adoption of an agreement, defined by many as historic,” the Pope said Dec. 13. Implementing the plan, he said, will require “a concerted and generous commitment on the part of each one,” and exp

Clergy have consciences, too

Chicago Archbishop Blase Cupich is not a heretic. Although that adjective is being tossed his way with some frequency these days, there is no evidence that Cupich doubts or denies some doctrine that must be believed with divine and Catholic faith (1983 CIC 751) and so he is not, as far as I can see, a heretic. But if Cupich really has, as reported here, doubled down on his earlier intimations that, among others, divorced-and-remarried Catholics and Catholics living in ‘same-sex marriages’ should, and must be allowed to, ‘follow their conscience’ even if their conscience leads them to the proverbial communion rail, then he is misrepresenting Church teaching on marriage—which holds marriage to be a permanent union between a man…Continue Reading

December 12, 2015 World News Comments Off on Michigan mom freaks out: Prayer room for Muslims at Catholic school ‘undermines’ my child’s faith

Saying “We don’t discriminate based on race, creed, color,” the principal of a Catholic school in Michigan defended allowing Muslim students to use a so-called “sacred space” on the campus for their daily prayers despite complaints from parents. According to WXYZ, parents of some students attending Brother Rice High School in Bloomfield Hills were surprised to find that the school offers a prayer room for students of other faiths attending the Catholic school. “When the question was ‘Is there a place that I can pray?’, the answer that evolved was yes,” explained school president John Birney. “We have this ‘sacred space’ available for you if you want it.”

Conference Teaches Students to Defend ‘Conservative Ideas’ on Catholic Campuses

December 10, 2015 World News Comments Off on Conference Teaches Students to Defend ‘Conservative Ideas’ on Catholic Campuses

December 9, 2015, at 4:00 PM  |  By Justin Petrisek  | One of the most important ways of protecting the Catholic identity of Catholic colleges and schools is to equip students with the knowledge and tactics to counter opposition to their beliefs during their time on campus, conservative leaders who spoke at a program on faith and freedom told The Cardinal Newman Society in recent interviews. “Students have a vital role to play in helping to change their campuses towards a more authentic Catholic identity,” Nicholas Hahn, editor of RealClearReligion and one of the speakers at the event, “Stand Up for Faith & Freedom: How to advance conservative ideas at C – See more at: http://www.cardinalnewmansociety.org/CatholicEducationDaily/DetailsPage/tabid/102/ArticleID/4539/Conference-Teaches-Students-to-Defend-%E2%80%98Conservative-Ideas%E2%80%99-on-Catholic-Campuses.aspx#sthash.RKfZ1ihE.dpuf

St Peter’s Magic Lantern Show

December 10, 2015 World News Comments Off on St Peter’s Magic Lantern Show

Conservative pundits are all worked up about the super duper climate change slide show on the facade of St Peter’s yesterday. Life Site News here goes all conspiratorial about the connections of the groups that funded the show and how it was all a left wing, climate change, one world government, population control propaganda exercise. Well, perhaps, but then again maybe not. I got used to the tactics of fundamentalist conspiracy theory folks in my earlier days as a Protestant fundamentalist. They use several different propaganda tricks themselves. First is guilt by association. If organization A has links with organization B and organization B does bad things then organization A is bad too. They

3 couples challenge religious objection for gay marriage

December 10, 2015 World News Comments Off on 3 couples challenge religious objection for gay marriage

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina — Three couples filed a lawsuit Wednesday to challenge North Carolina’s law allowing officials to refuse to perform gay marriages based on their religious beliefs. Their attorney says the state is violating the First Amendment and using taxpayer money to advance a religious point of view, and they want to strike down the law — one of only two in the country. The law was pushed by Republicans and passed in June over the veto of GOP Gov. Pat McCrory. Under the law, local magistrates, who can preside over marriages, and some register of deeds officials, who issue licenses, can opt out of performing marriages if they have a “sincerely

The Shootings in San Bernardino: Another View

December 6, 2015 World News Comments Off on The Shootings in San Bernardino: Another View

December 06, 2015 The so-called “Muslim terrorists” do not think of themselves as “Muslim terrorists” but consider themselves to be the only real followers of Mohammed James V. Schall, S.J.After almost every shooting involving a Muslim perpetrator, from 9/11 to Fort Hood to San Bernardino, we hear, from the President on down, some version of the following on-going narrative: “We are horrified by this inexplicable, horrendous act. Our hearts go out to the victims. This atrocity again proves the need for more gun laws.” We then have a statement from some Muslim group; its spokesmen, often women, are also horrified. They had nothing to do with it; they knew nothing about it. They are concerned with retaliation. Next we have…Continue Reading

Senate Passes Reconciliation Bill 52-47, Parts Of Obamacare, Planned Parenthood Gutted

December 4, 2015 World News Comments Off on Senate Passes Reconciliation Bill 52-47, Parts Of Obamacare, Planned Parenthood Gutted

UPDATE: Bill passes by a 52-47 vote. After hours of votes on amendments related to gun rights (and gun control), not a single one was attached to the House reconciliation bill that’s being considered in the Senate. The Senate voted to torpedo large portions of the president’s signature health care law, along with defunding Planned Parenthood for a year by a 52-47 vote. Moderate Republican Sens. Susan Collins and Mark Kirk of Maine and Illinois, respectively, seem to be the ‘no’ votes, according to Fox News’ Chad Pergram. The GOP could only risk three defections on a bill that required a simple majority to pass. Sens. Rubio, Cruz, and Graham all voted in the affirmative for the bill. It now goes…Continue Reading
