One Greta Is Enough

Let’s hope the climate evangelism of Greta Thunberg isn’t catching; because if it is, we’re in for a terrible time. It’s already clear those behind her speechifying have succeeded in pulling together hundreds (if not more) of young people who think they can and will change the world by insulting adults.
All I can say to that is: How dare you!
Oops, can’t use that. Greta said it first, after she told the world that adults have stolen her childhood and that she should be home and in school rather than traipsing around the world, idolized by media and politicians — and yes, all those other kids who now think they can rule the world.
In the event you don’t know whom I’m talking about, Greta is a 16-year-old Swede who went on strike from school last year to protest the inaction of government outside of the Swedish Parliament.
This got her worldwide attention, not the least from the UN, and gained her a nomination for an international prize for her activism. In addition, Time magazine named her one of the “most influential teens of 2018.”
It’s enough to go to her head and indeed, it apparently has . . . although she doesn’t do too well without a script. Her “powerful” speech at the UN (see the many clips on the Internet) was something she read.
One might assume she was reading words that came from her heart, but I don’t think so; and that became apparent at a press conference held after the speech.
A Swedish journalist asked her two short questions: What kind of message do you want to convey to world leaders; and do you think it’s time for President Trump to react to what you have said?
There was a pause, she hesitated, then said, “I think….” There was a pause and then she added, “I’m sorry, what was the first question?”
The questions were repeated, and she finally said, “I think what we would want to send is — the message we want to send is that we have had enough….”
Then she paused, and said (referring to the 14 other young people on the stage with her), “Does anyone else want to answer this? I can’t speak on behalf of everyone.”
The last part of that thought was probably the most truthful thing that girl has said. She “can’t speak for everyone” — yet when she is pontificating about how the world is coming to an end because adults have done nothing, she certainly does speak for other people.
The question is, how did she get to where she is today? A youthful-looking 16-year-old, Thunberg suffered from depression as a child and later was diagnosed with selective mutism, Asperger’s Syndrome, and OCD. She described it as she only speaks when she thinks it’s necessary and is obsessed with the potential damage from climate change.
All well and good; but consider that her parents are wild advocates of fighting “climate change” and she is being coached by a German climate activist who’s part of the “One Foundation,” an international lobbying organization funded primarily by George Soros, as well as Bill Gates, his wife, and others.
So, is she a real believer or is Greta just a pawn in a larger scheme to attack capitalism and the financial success it has brought our civilization?
Her apocalyptic warnings have a religious fanaticism to them and indeed, there are those who relate her to that.
Gerard Baker wrote in The Wall Street Journal, “St. Greta” is “sincere and talented.”
“St. Greta”? Not in my church.
“Sincere?” Reading the words of others?
“Talented?” Following the script and guided by coaches?
Her delivery is one of a televangelist. She’s good at that, but can we believe her as we believe the tent-style preacher?
Before you think I’m exaggerating, consider that the Maryknoll missionaries are comparing Greta to the Virgin Mary.
A tweet was sent from the official account of the Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers which said that people upset over Greta because of her age “seem to overlook the age of the Virgin Mary at the time of the annunciation. Young women can and have changed the world.”
If I may repeat myself, and Greta: How dare you!!
When I first read about Greta and head her speak, I thought the world has really gone crazy.
Reading what the Maryknoll Fathers said about her, I know the world has tipped into insanity.
Sinful And Sad
When I see the arrogance of Greta as she speaks to people in power, I see a child that didn’t get the discipline she needed as child.
“Spare the rod and spoil the child” and this is what you get. Greta Thunberg is a self-centered, arrogant twit, and what she needs is a good spanking.
I feel sorry for her because her life is ruined — but not because of the climate. Her life is ruined by adults who have catered to her irrational fears and are using her to promote their agenda.
Why do I suspect she has no friends, no pets, no social life, and no goals for her future?
How will she support herself? Or will she have to depend on the likes of the Soros dollars to keep her in her plain clothes and pigtails until she is too old for that, and then they will desert her?
That’s the tragedy that is playing out in front of us. Quite honestly, it is sinful and sad.
