Our Lady Of The Boomerang

October 29, 2019 Frontpage Comments Off on Our Lady Of The Boomerang

By SHAUN KENNEY At the University of Virginia, St. Thomas Aquinas Parish stands at the center of the Catholic community. For many years, there was a statue of Aquinas made entirely out of chrome bumpers, in which the Angelic Doctor was portrayed in all of his massive perched glory in front of the parish facing Alderman Road. Thus the “Bumper Buddha” graced the epicenter of Catholicism at the university until very recently, when Aquinas was unceremoniously removed and given a more appropriate perch — in a Charlottesville art park on top of a building, gazing over other modern art pieces in silent and highly reflective chromium repose. For those of you not familiar with Pachamama, it is some sort of…Continue Reading

Islamic Indoctrination Or Not?

October 28, 2019 Frontpage Comments Off on Islamic Indoctrination Or Not?

By DEACON MIKE MANNO, JD It seems like anytime people get together these days and the subject of Islam is introduced into the conversation, there are no neutral comments. For some, the religion, its history, Mohammed, and the Koran are as controversial as they come and should be met with universal condemnation. On the other hand, there are many whose view of Islam is not prejudiced by contemporary jihadists and those fighting to resurrect a new caliphate; they prefer to see the religion as one of peace. The debate will probably continue with many good people believing that Islam is trying to negatively infiltrate our culture and others defending the Islamists’ right to defend and articulate their faith. We are…Continue Reading

Cardinal Burke’s Keynote Talk… Faithful Catholic Health Workers Should Never Doubt Their Influence

October 27, 2019 Frontpage Comments Off on Cardinal Burke’s Keynote Talk… Faithful Catholic Health Workers Should Never Doubt Their Influence

By DEXTER DUGGAN PHOENIX — Faithful Catholics can provide direction and hope to their “brothers and sisters” in society lost in an “unreal world of moral relativism,” Raymond Leo Cardinal Burke said in his keynote address following the annual White Mass for the Catholic Medical Association’s guild in Phoenix. Burke preached the homily at the evening Mass, which he concelebrated in the Virginia Piper Chapel at Phoenix diocesan headquarters, then he expanded on his theme during a 48-minute address after the annual dinner of the medical association’s local guild on October 19. “In a culture which attempts to alienate health care from its foundation in the mystery of Divine Love and Mercy,” Burke said in his homily, the mission of…Continue Reading

Another Meaningless, Meandering Meeting

October 26, 2019 Frontpage Comments Off on Another Meaningless, Meandering Meeting

By CHRISTOHER MANION America’s Catholic bishops will be gathering for their annual meeting in Baltimore next month. What should they talk about? An authoritative and surprisingly candid source offered some useful recommendations before last year’s meeting. Jayd Henricks, a longtime (and former) USCCB senior staffer, had been “entrusted with a range of some of the most sensitive work for the United States bishops,” he wrote in First Things, hopeful no doubt that his views would receive serious attention. Henricks didn’t pull any punches. “Far too often,” he told the bishops, “fear appears to govern what is done or not done by you as a body. There is the fear of disunity, fear of conflict, fear of disrupting, and today, more…Continue Reading

Polish Catholics Take The Lead Against Sex Ed

October 25, 2019 Frontpage Comments Off on Polish Catholics Take The Lead Against Sex Ed

By REY FLORES This past week saw yet another strong statement by Catholic Poles in what seems to be the most exemplary Catholic country in the world today. According to a report by Agence France-Presse (AFP), about one thousand people gathered in Warsaw to protest a bill which would prosecute any person who helps “promote or approve underage sexual activity.” Planned Parenthood and the National Education Association in the United States could sure use a thrashing like this. It’s about time for Catholics to start being genuine Catholics and to stand up for the absolute truth, instead of the cowardly kowtowing many of our high-ranking clergy do for the secular globalists. How dare we question why little Johnny and Susie…Continue Reading

Christopher Columbus Was A Hero (Don’t Forget It)

October 24, 2019 Frontpage Comments Off on Christopher Columbus Was A Hero (Don’t Forget It)

By SHAUN KENNEY In fourteen hundred and ninety-two, Columbus sail’d the ocean blue. I remember learning such nursery rhymes in Catholic school when I was a child, alongside poems such as the Midnight Ride of Paul Revere and The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Back then, the American canon was not only taught, but it had a certain cadence to it. Labor Day was the official kickoff for school in Virginia, and once fall began to arrive we were treated to what we called an Indian Summer — a now offensive term deemed as such by a few self-appointed apparatchiks and a bevy of sympathetic media outlets short on ideas and long on opinions. Yet I digress. For us Virginians, history…Continue Reading

Hospices Infiltrated For Euthanasia . . . HALO Founded To Help Patients Facing End-Of-Life Threats

October 23, 2019 Frontpage Comments Off on Hospices Infiltrated For Euthanasia . . . HALO Founded To Help Patients Facing End-Of-Life Threats

By DEXTER DUGGAN Because of a trend toward euthanasia at hospices, everyday people need to learn how to be advocates for patients in order to defend a vulnerable person should the occasion arise, the president of a new organization defending the value of human life told The Wanderer in an interview. “Hospice has really been infiltrated by people with a euthanasia mentality,” while good hospices are “getting rarer and rarer” due to growth in for-profit hospices, said president Julie Grimstad, LPN, one of the four women who started the Healthcare Advocacy and Leadership Organization (HALO). Among their goals are a national 24/7 hotline to provide assistance and, a HALO pamphlet says, long-range plans for “safe havens,” described as “sanctuaries for…Continue Reading

Counter-Reformation Warrior: St. Charles Borromeo

October 22, 2019 Frontpage Comments Off on Counter-Reformation Warrior: St. Charles Borromeo

By RAY CAVANAUGH St. Charles Borromeo came of age when the Church was in a Reformation-induced crisis. But the way he responded to this crisis would see him become the patron saint of seminarians and bishops. His feast day is November 4. He was born on October 2, 1538, in the town of Arona, located on Lake Maggiore in northern Italy. The third of six children, he grew up in his family’s private castle. His father was Count Gilberto Borromeo and his mother was Countess Margherita de Medici, whose younger brother became Pope Pius IV in 1559. It would be difficult to find a family with better connections than what the Borromeo family had. A sure sign of his family’s…Continue Reading

The Undisruptive Protest

October 21, 2019 Frontpage Comments Off on The Undisruptive Protest

By DEACON MIKE MANNO, JD I had a wonderful experience this morning (October 10). Iowans for Life was hosting a prayer rally in the rotunda of the state capitol building and I was asked to deliver one of the prayers, along with a local monsignor, two Protestant ministers, and our new bishop, William Joensen. However, having just returned from a Marian conference in New York with a head cold and ears that still had not readjusted to Mother Earth (sorry, that was from the synod), it was difficult for me to clearly hear some of what was being said. As a result my eyes wandered around the room and there I spotted them. There were three protesters standing on one…Continue Reading

Despite Its Horrors Exposed . . . Big Abortion Seems To Think It’ll Never Be Called To Account

October 20, 2019 Frontpage Comments Off on Despite Its Horrors Exposed . . . Big Abortion Seems To Think It’ll Never Be Called To Account

By DEXTER DUGGAN A veteran pro-life activist who recently reportedly shocked a San Francisco jury with testimony about scalping aborted babies for research told The Wanderer that despite criminal referrals against Planned Parenthood by the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee in 2016, the abortion giant “can boast nationwide that they’re clean as a whistle” because of lack of federal follow-up. “The main point is, we don’t get any prosecution anyplace, so Planned Parenthood is still reigning supreme,” activist Albin Rhomberg said. “. . . Not a thing has been done that we can see” against baby-parts traffickers. Although there has been a virtual blackout by dominant media about the current California trial in federal district court against pro-life investigators with the…Continue Reading
