October 14, 2017 Featured Today Comments Off on A Movie Review… What God Has Planned For Us

By REY FLORES God has very interesting ways of bringing people together. The reasons are sometimes a complete mystery, until He reveals His plan to us in His own time. It is then that we realize that many of the hardships and pains that we go through are part of His bringing us closer to Him. Same Kind of Different as Me is one of those stories that we can all relate to in the sense that at some point in our lives, hopefully, we can come to understand what truly is important. In this latest release by Pure Flix, we are told the true story of successful international art dealer Ron Hall, played by actor Greg Kinnear. Hall is…Continue Reading

By FR. SEAN CONNOLLY (Editor’s Note: This is the eighth in a series of articles on the one hundredth anniversary of our Lady’s apparitions at Fatima. Fr. Connolly is a priest of the Archdiocese of New York.) + + + The Mother of God’s appearance to the three shepherd children at Fatima on August 19 ended with our Lady’s face becoming sad as she said: “Pray, pray very much, and make sacrifices for sinners; for many souls go to Hell, because there are none to sacrifice themselves and to pray for them.” (1) Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta responded generously to this request by making sacrifices of reparation to God for the conversion of sinners in a number of ways far…Continue Reading

Cardinal Dolan . . . Respect Life Month Statement Calls For Culture Of Life

October 11, 2017 Featured Today Comments Off on Cardinal Dolan . . . Respect Life Month Statement Calls For Culture Of Life

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In an October 3 statement to mark Respect Life Month, October 2017, Timothy Cardinal Dolan of New York reiterated the need to build a culture of life throughout the year. Cardinal Dolan chairs the Committee on Pro-Life Activities of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB). The cardinal’s statement launches the year-long 2017-2018 Respect Life Program, which provides materials exploring the theme, “Be Not Afraid.” “Looking back over the last year, there’s been a lot of uncertainty, suffering, and heartache. Between tragedies that occur in the public eye and trials that take place in our personal lives, there’s no shortage of reasons we cry out to God,” Cardinal Dolan said. “At such times, we may feel alone…Continue Reading

Fr. James Martin, SJ… Inveighing, We Will Go

October 10, 2017 Featured Today Comments Off on Fr. James Martin, SJ… Inveighing, We Will Go

By DEACON JAMES H. TONER Almost 50 years ago, the pundit William F. Buckley, Jr. (1925-2008), wrote Inveighing, We Will Go. The dictionary teaches that inveigh (against) means to “speak or write about (something) with great hostility.” Evidently, Fr. James Martin, SJ, has been inveighed against quite enough. He’s mad as hell, and he’s not going to take it anymore. By golly, he is going to inveigh against the inveighers. He is going to rear up and — call them names! At a recent conference at a Jesuit university, Fr. Martin delivered himself of this invective: “I have a hard time imagining how even the most traditionalist, homophobic, closed-minded Catholic cannot look at my [active homosexual] friend and say, ‘That…Continue Reading

Two Observers Say . . . Tom Price’s Departure Not A Purge Of A Conservative

October 9, 2017 Featured Today Comments Off on Two Observers Say . . . Tom Price’s Departure Not A Purge Of A Conservative

By DEXTER DUGGAN A man who built a TV reputation by telling his potential apprentices “You’re fired!” might have been expected to use the same approach if he became top man in the U.S. government and thought that a leading executive reporting to him was falling short. That was the motive for President Trump’s shoving Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price off the platform instead of a desire to purge a conservative by a non-ideological White House, two sources told The Wanderer. Price gave up a safe congressional seat to become head of HHS as Trump selected his new administration’s management team. Price, also a physician as well as a respected member of the U.S. House, seemed a logical…Continue Reading

A Book Review… Noise Rules With Absolute Tyranny

October 8, 2017 Featured Today Comments Off on A Book Review… Noise Rules With Absolute Tyranny

By MITCHELL KALPAKGIAN The Power of Silence: Against the Dictatorship of Noise, by Robert Cardinal Sarah, with Nicolas Diat; translated by Michael J. Miller (Ignatius Press: San Francisco, 2017), 247 pp.; $17.95. Available from www.ignatius.com or at 1-800-651-1531. To think clearly, to hear the voice of conscience, to listen to the motions of the heart, to be in touch with the soul, and to sense the Holy Spirit all require the habit of silence and the need for recollection and solitude — a way of Christian life conducive to prayer, meditation, and contemplation essential for both religious and lay people, although in different degrees. The deluge of noise that inundates the 21st century distracts, diverts, and fragments peoples’ lives in…Continue Reading

October, Month Of The Rosary… How Praying The Rosary Has Changed History

October 7, 2017 Featured Today Comments Off on October, Month Of The Rosary… How Praying The Rosary Has Changed History

By DONAL ANTHONY FOLEY Now that the Fatima Centenary year is drawing to a close, it’s good to remind ourselves about the essential points of the Fatima message, and particularly in this month of October, the month devoted to the rosary, to look again at the importance of the rosary in the life of the Church. At Fatima between May and October 1917, our Lady spoke to the three young seers, Jacinta and Francisco Marto, and Lucia dos Santos, quite insistently and emphatically about the rosary. On May 13, 1917, she said, “Pray the rosary every day to obtain peace for the world and an end to the war,” and this message was repeated by her over the summer, culminating…Continue Reading

Is Diversity A Virtue?

October 6, 2017 Featured Today Comments Off on Is Diversity A Virtue?

By DONALD DeMARCO A Harvard undergraduate who, when his confreres were asked to list what they believed to be their virtues, wrote: “I am diverse.” In the kingdom of political correctness, there is no word that is more highly revered than diversity. Yet many are blinded by the glow of this fine-sounding term. Of course, one person alone cannot be “diverse,” but more significantly, a virtue must be acquired. Furthermore, one cannot practice diversity and real virtues must be put into practice. Virtue is not possessed by everyone simply because they call themselves “diverse.” This gross misunderstanding of both diversity and virtue, comical as it may be, opens the door to a problem that is not only pervasive in the…Continue Reading
