Chris Matthews Versus The Donald

May 1, 2016 Frontpage Comments Off on Chris Matthews Versus The Donald

By JAMES K. FITZPATRICK There is no question that Chris Matthews was acting as a partisan and a cheap-shot artist during his MSNBC interview with Donald Trump a few weeks ago. He was looking for a “gotcha” moment to serve the Democratic Party candidate in the upcoming presidential election. He got what he wanted: It was prudent for Trump to walk back his initial comment about punishing women who procure abortions. Hillary and Bernie Sanders were jumping all over it. In fact, they are still are. Just to refresh your memory about the exchange. Matthews, with fiery eyes and clenched jaw, pressed Trump repeatedly about whether women who have abortions would be punished if Trump gets his way and abortion…Continue Reading

Revolutionists Then And Now By THE MOST REV. WILLIAM L. ADRIAN, D. D., Bishop of Nashville. Tenn. The Wanderer Newspaper January 23, 1969 The Church from its very beginning has had to fight for its very life against external attacks, yes, — but more against the traitorous attacks within the Church. When one looks back over the history of the Church, one must become convinced, that…Continue Reading

Trump Slips Up Again . . . Lavatory Liberalism The Next Step To Steam Americans

April 30, 2016 Frontpage Comments Off on Trump Slips Up Again . . . Lavatory Liberalism The Next Step To Steam Americans

By DEXTER DUGGAN Like many other wars, this one started with bright flags flying, great hopes for victory and for the defeat of presumptuous enemies. But, like those wars, combat meant the banners started drooping and assured strategies became hopeless assumptions. Seventeen Republican presidential hopefuls soon were sifted down to two, plus one more who refused to admit he had hardly any ammunition. They were Gen. Donald Trump, of New York, Gen. Ted Cruz, of Texas, and Cpl. John Kasich, of Ohio. The ability to read battlefield maps in the old days — or use satellite images and drones’ information today — can be the key to conquest. Leading GOP contender Trump’s winning maneuvers seemed to show he can plot…Continue Reading

Carly Fiorina . . . Gives Women A Real Option For The White House

April 29, 2016 Frontpage Comments Off on Carly Fiorina . . . Gives Women A Real Option For The White House

By REY FLORES The 2016 presidential race has just gotten much more interesting. Ted Cruz has announced that he has selected Carly Fiorina as his vice-presidential running mate. What does this mean for the rest of the candidates remaining and what does this mean for the American citizenry? What this means in my opinion is that the Trump campaign is now faced with either also picking a female vice-presidential running mate, or risking the loss of the women’s vote among conservatives. Trump’s propensity for having offended so many women in his “bull in the china shop”-style campaign since 2015 has only hurt him, starting with his on-again, off-again feud with Fox News’ Megyn Kelly. The two have since made up…Continue Reading

Benedict On The Loss Of Missionary Zeal

April 28, 2016 Frontpage Comments Off on Benedict On The Loss Of Missionary Zeal

By JUDE P. DOUGHERTY On March 17 of this year, Pope Benedict XVI was interviewed by Fr. Jacques Servais, SJ. The interview, originally published in German, is now available in the English language courtesy of CNA/EWTN. It is a remarkable document that can be read as Benedict defending the Catholic faith against certain theological trends. Early in the interview Benedict speaks of the nature of faith. “Faith is not the product of reflection nor is it an attempt to penetrate the depths of my own being….In order for me to believe, I need witnesses who have met God and who have made him accessible to me.” “The faith community,” he says, “does not create itself. It is not an assembly…Continue Reading

Amoris Laetitia . . . God Does Not Experiment With Souls — Neither Should We

April 27, 2016 Frontpage 6 Comments

By FR. KEVIN M. CUSICK (Editor’s Note: Fr. Kevin M. Cusick’s column appears here earlier this week because of its importance and timeliness. Fr. Cusick sets out the serious problems within Amoris Laetitia and also the apostolic exhortation’s dangerous implications.)(comment box is open) + + + The false compassion operative in experimentation with souls is a dangerous sport. We don’t explore new and uncharted moral ground with lives and souls through moral or social experiments because neither does God: For Him only the truth is good enough. God has appeared among us as Truth Incarnate in Jesus Christ. This means that now for our salvation we must never settle for anything less than the truth. Anything less than Jesus Christ and His…Continue Reading

Did The Atlantic Spill The Beans?

April 27, 2016 Frontpage Comments Off on Did The Atlantic Spill The Beans?

By JAMES K. FITZPATRICK I am wondering if The Atlantic magazine said more than it should have said from the point of view of its readers and ideological allies. It published an article in its online edition on March 25 by Jonathan Merritt describing the flip-flop that has taken place in the education establishment, away from the moral relativism it championed in the past to the strict codes of political correctness of today. I don’t think the left in this country wants us to become too aware of what happened in academia. It is hard to defend hypocrisy. The Atlantic and the establishment liberals who read the publication have long been champions of an open-minded and a diverse society, leaders…Continue Reading

The Show Goes On . . . Nurse Criticizes Dangers From USD’s Fifth Drag “Celebration”

April 26, 2016 Frontpage Comments Off on The Show Goes On . . . Nurse Criticizes Dangers From USD’s Fifth Drag “Celebration”

By DEXTER DUGGAN A San Francisco native who provided nursing care to people suffering from their homosexual lifestyles there expressed regret that the University of San Diego (USD), a Catholic school, continues to promote sexual “confusion” with an annual spring drag show on campus. “I was really sad the administration gave students a forum to act out craziness,” Jeannie Stiles, RN, told The Wanderer in an April 15 telephone interview. “This was like new confusion” added to their lives when they’re “still trying to figure things out” as young people about their identity as “children of God.” Stiles spoke about suffering and death she saw in San Francisco that resulted from allowing gender confusion into people’s lives. The previous evening,…Continue Reading

Compromise Is A Two-Way Street

April 25, 2016 Frontpage Comments Off on Compromise Is A Two-Way Street

By JAMES K. FITZPATRICK Compromise is like the tango: It takes two to really make it work. It assumes goodwill on the part of the disputants, a willingness to bargain in search of a reasonable common ground. The Washington Post reported a few weeks back that the Michigan Catholic Conference (MCC), which, in the Post’s words, “oversees the health care insurance provided for individuals working for Catholic institutions in the state,” is willing to “play its part” on the issue of providing health care for homosexual employees. “The MCC announced in a letter in early March that it is modifying its coverage in a way that will make it possible for gay employees of the church to get health benefits…Continue Reading

Clarence Thomas’ Courage . . . Provides Lesson Today About How To Triumph Over Campaign Challenges

April 24, 2016 Frontpage Comments Off on Clarence Thomas’ Courage . . . Provides Lesson Today About How To Triumph Over Campaign Challenges

By DEXTER DUGGAN Pointing out the liberal propaganda tilt of HBO’s TV movie Confirmation in mid-April, San Francisco Chronicle columnist Debra Saunders brought back a vivid memory to those of us around at the beginning of the 1990s. We recalled a photo. Known conservative Clarence Thomas was nominated to the U.S. Supreme Court by Republican President George H.W. Bush in 1991, and left-wing Democrats were grimly determined to stop Thomas however it had to be done — standard unethical procedure against conservatives. The black Thomas who rose from poverty couldn’t be routinely smeared as a right-wing racist or silver-spoon son of privilege. Oh, let’s claim he talks dirty about sex! It seemed a prim new standard for a left-wing machine…Continue Reading
