It seems to be primarily a way of trying to oust the Holy See from the UN and a victory for the habitual anti-Catholics. Left unexplored and…Continue Reading

Errors In Logic

January 26, 2014 Frontpage Comments Off on Errors In Logic

By JAMES K. FITZPATRICK Up until about the 1970s, many Catholic universities would require a course called “Logic.” These courses centered on the difference between valid and invalid arguments. Invalid arguments were those that were based on faulty lines of thinking, such as ad hominem proofs, circular reasoning, false premises, non sequiturs, post hoc, ergo propter hoc reasoning, and begging the question. We don’t hear much about these formal errors in logic these days. The modern thinking is that students can be shown that something is illogical without giving it a formal name. That may be true. In a column titled “Washington’s Three Most Irrational Arguments in 2013,” Timothy Carney in the Washington Examiner on December 28 offered his readers…Continue Reading

MCCL Rally . . . Moves Indoors, Vows To Move Ahead For Life

By PEGGY MOEN ST. PAUL — The Wanderer asked Leo LaLonde, president of Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life, if he ever wished Roe v. Wade had been handed down in June instead of in January. “It would have been convenient,” said LaLonde, “but more convenient if it had not been handed down at all.” MCCL’s leaders had decided on January 21 to move the January 22 memorial rally into the capitol rotunda because of predicted dangerous wind chills. The prediction proved accurate: Bundled-up pro-lifers struggled against a knifing wind to cross the icy capitol grounds and enter the rotunda. Cong. John Kline (R., Minn.), when he addressed the crowd, said he applauded MCCL’s leadership for the decision to move inside:…Continue Reading

Pro-Life Coffee To Wake Us Up

January 24, 2014 Frontpage Comments Off on Pro-Life Coffee To Wake Us Up

By REY FLORES WASHINGTON, D.C. — As I write this, we are once again gathered in our nation’s capital to protest the law of the land that allows for the legal killing of human life in the womb. While the March for Life rally and march are basically protests, the events also offer the opportunity to network and connect with pro-life Americans from all across the land and beyond. Just yesterday I met people from Holland, Puerto Rico, and Poland. While Monday’s temperature in Washington, D.C., reached close to 60F, the day of the March is closer to 12F with a wind chill of -5F. It was earlier estimated that 600,000 people would descend upon the nation’s political epicenter regardless…Continue Reading

Why They Marched, in Their Own Words

January 23, 2014 Frontpage Comments Off on Why They Marched, in Their Own Words

The Heritage Foundation. BY AMY PAYNE January 23, 2014 at 6:30 am Despite temperatures in the teens and wind chills below zero, people from across the country marched in Washington, D.C., yesterday, to speak up for life. They had different backgrounds—from the 15-year-old who said he “would do anything to support this cause” to the man who was conceived when his mother was raped: “I’m here today to make sure all life is protected like I was.” Read his powerful story here. Why did they march? Listen to these marchers tell it in their own words: Not everyone can make it to Washington for the March for Life, and not everyone feels strongly enough about the issue to march. But…Continue Reading

Why Congress Is Held In Contempt

January 23, 2014 Frontpage Comments Off on Why Congress Is Held In Contempt

By PATRICK J. BUCHANAN “I’ve got a pen,” said President Obama recently. “I can use that pen to sign executive orders and take executive actions . . . that move the ball forward.” “When I can act on my own without Congress, I’m going to do so,” the president added on January 15 at North Carolina State. Thus did Obama signal that he will bypass Congress and use his executive powers to advance his agenda of national transformation. This dismissal of Congress has gone almost unprotested. In an earlier age it might have evoked talk of impeachment. But not now. For though Congress may be the first branch of government in the Constitution, with the longest list of enumerated powers…Continue Reading

BY JOHN JALSEVAC Tue Jan 21, 2014 23:00 EST 1500 youth were scheduled to attend, but the winter storm kept many away as many planes and buses have been canceled. But the room was still 2/3s full, and full of energy. Jan 21, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The chant was deafening. “Pro….LIFE!…Pro…LIFE!” Outside the temperatures had plummeted below freezing as the warned-about winter storm blew its way into Washington, D.C., but inside the ballroom at the Washington Hyatt Regency Hotel things were just heating up. Eric Scheidler of Pro-Life Action League, the MC for the 2014 March for Life Youth Rally, was leading the over 1000 youth present in a raucous pro-life chant. For the next two and a half hours,…Continue Reading

Vatican Officials . . . Grilled At UN Hearing On Abuse

January 22, 2014 Frontpage Comments Off on Vatican Officials . . . Grilled At UN Hearing On Abuse

By PAUL LIKOUDIS Officials of the Holy See were grilled by members of the United Nations human rights committee in Geneva January 16 over the sex-abuse crisis in the Catholic Church. Among those representing the Holy See were Bishop Charles Scicluna of Malta, who for ten years was the top official in the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith dealing with priests who committed crimes against children, and Archbishop Silvano Tomasi, the Holy See’s ambassador to the United Nations. Bishop Scicluna admitted that the Holy See was slow to recognize the depth of the problem, which slowly emerged into public view in the 1990s and exploded into the global press after the depth of the problem was exposed in…Continue Reading
