Drifting Away From The Center

By DONALD DeMARCO On February 13, 2023, South Dakota’s House State of Affairs Committee voted 7-5 to defeat a bill to “update” the definition of marriage by removing references to man and woman and replacing them with “between two persons.”Rep. Erin Healy, who voted for the update, was particularly aggrieved by the decision. She strongly criticized the Family Heritage Alliance group for stating, on the day of the vote, that the safest place for children is in families that have a married mom and dad. “What a dangerous and un-American belief,” she said.Marriage between a man and a woman has been the center of virtually every society in history and is defined that way in the Bible. (In response to…Continue Reading

Our Growing Role In Ukraine

May 13, 2023 Frontpage Comments Off on Our Growing Role In Ukraine

By CHRISTOPHER MANION As the war in Ukraine continues, we’re seeing an increasing number of questions emerge in the public conversation about the growing role of the United States. Ask these questions a year ago and you would have been called a “Putin Stooge,” but not today. Now it’s getting serious.Whatever the reasons for our involvement — some noble, some unlovely — we’re in it. And the pressing question is not what happens in Ukraine, but what happens here at home. For it is increasingly possible, if not likely, that not only American weapons, but American troops on the ground will be our next step in the war.Until now, the lack of public debate over the U.S. role has been…Continue Reading

Good News On The Humanae Vitae Front

May 12, 2023 Frontpage Comments Off on Good News On The Humanae Vitae Front

By CHRISTOPHER MANION Clearing away the fog and confusion fomented by the German dissidents and “Synodality,” Pope Francis last week sent a message to participants in the “WOOMB International Congress on The ‘Billings Revolution’ 70 years later.” His words are an inspiration as well as a reminder of the fundamental truths expressed by his Predecessor, Pope Paul VI, in Humanae Vitae. The conference, he said, encourages “serious reflection” on “the need for education in the value of the human body, an integrated and integral vision of human sexuality, an ability to cherish the fruitfulness of love even when not fertile, the building up of a culture that welcomes life and ways to confront the problem of demographic collapse.”“There is a need,”…Continue Reading

National Radio Host Dennis Prager . . . Says Taking Responsibility Is Key To Fighting Problems

By DEXTER DUGGAN PHOENIX — A major threat to the United States — and other nations, too — is the ever-growing preference to blame external factors for one’s troubles instead of acknowledging that they can be dealt with by the individual.Help from others may be useful or needed — what’s a friend for? — but even the members of a team have to take individual action. Just waiting for the other guy won’t score all the points. An article from Fox News, posted April 29 at the New York Post, illustrated another dangerous expansion of the trend to surrender responsibility. In fact, the article said some people now seek to become disabled, even though surgical intervention.“Transableism is a newer term for…Continue Reading

Prices, Borders, Sports, Spending . . . Setting Table For Politics Is Enough To Kill Anyone’s Appetite

By DEXTER DUGGAN PHOENIX — Having to grind your teeth may be unnecessary preparation for eating a meal, but grinding them seems unavoidable upon noticing how grocery prices have skyrocketed due to Joe Biden’s intentional mismanagement of a nation screaming in protest against a whole menu of his stomach-churning policies.A can of house-brand mackerel costs twice as much as not long ago, a 50-cent can of vegetables is up to 89 cents, a $12 container of spice jumped to $15, and a can of house-brand cranberries quadrupled. That may mean nothing to the emperor of the White House at his banquet table, but it’s a big new chunk out of a six-member working family’s budget. Why, this food must be cheaper…Continue Reading

A Beacon Of Light . . . Mothers In The Psalms And Songs Of Scripture

By FR. RICHARD D. BRETON, Jr. This coming Sunday, May 14, is the feast day of St. Matthias, the Apostle, and it is also the Fourth Sunday of Easter. Both of these observances have significant importance in the life of the Church. At the same time, however, in this country we also celebrate the yearly observance of Mother’s Day. Celebrating Mother’s Day is almost impossible without looking at motherhood through the eyes of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of God.Returning to the moments of creation and the Garden of Eden, we see the first need for a motherly figure. The creation of Eve, who represents all women, was necessary in order that Adam, representing all men, had the complementarity…Continue Reading

Are You A Passive Parent?

By DEACON MIKE MANNO I remember as a kid how I would wait for my dad to come home from work. Sometimes I would run up to the corner where dad would turn onto our street, and he would stop and let me in the car to ride half a block to our house. That was a thrill for a kid my age.My parents would discuss the news, have dinner, then, if there was nothing else scheduled for the evening, we would settle down with the TV. On fight night, dad would get a pizza and the two of us would watch some of the best pugilists of the day on the old black ’n white.I often think about that…Continue Reading

The Gagging Of Tucker Carlson . . . Gives Me That “They Just Declared Martial Law” Vibe

By JOHN ZMIRAK (Wanderer Editor’s Note: This article was originally published at The Stream [stream.org] and it is reprinted here with permission. It first appeared on April 25, 2023.) + + I could be paranoid. I might be imagining things. It’s absolutely possible that I’m much too cynical, worldly, and steeped in the grim lessons of mankind’s fallen history. That history being full of free societies finally giving way to tyranny, of civilizations collapsing, and hordes of Assyrians pouring over the border to punish our faults. So I simply can’t see all the magical, hopeful possibilities for America that lie just round the corner. Sunshine and flowers and rainbows, which we could only spoil if we speak up and rock…Continue Reading

As Campaigner Biden Rejects Reality . . . New Candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Differs With Giants’ Impositions

By DEXTER DUGGAN Was Joe Biden’s creepy confirmation on April 25 that he intends to run for reelection as president just the timely announcement he had been promising, or was Biden feeling rushed and pressured after Democrat Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced on April 19 that he was joining the White House race, to combat the tyrannies threatening Americans these days?Biden making the brief announcement via video was a reminder that he and his crew don’t trust his cognitive abilities even as he committed himself to seeking another four years in one of the most arduous jobs in the world.Kennedy made his name in current times by courageously opposing the COVID vaccine mania that establishment tyrants including the Biden gang…Continue Reading

By DEXTER DUGGAN PHOENIX — Driving west from downtown along one-way Washington Street here, one sees straight ahead the bright copper dome of the Arizona State Capitol topped with a pure white winged goddess of liberty, or maybe of victory, said to be 17 feet high.Firmly affixed, the goddess didn’t look lost up there by herself, but behind her was the nine-story executive tower of a governor who is.A few blocks east of the Capitol, the variegated tents of a homeless camp occupy land on the south side of Washington Street, a settlement of the impoverished that’s a brief jog from where legislators, lobbyists, bureaucrats, and other officials do their daily duty on big budgets, bills, and blarney before an…Continue Reading
