Debasing The Currency Of Catholicism

November 8, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on Debasing The Currency Of Catholicism

By SHAUN KENNEY To be Irish is to know that in the end, the world will break your heart. This is a paraphrasing of Daniel Patrick Moynihan’s commentary after the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in the book One Thousand Days, and as we are coming up on the fifty-fifth anniversary of that untimely event, perhaps it is worth reflecting on how the world has changed. Of course, for Catholics in America the world was much different. The Novus Ordo was still replacing the old Tridentine Rite Mass, our priests were revered and honored in American culture, our nuns taught our Catholic children and tended to our sick in Catholic hospitals. It was still a time when a Catholic…Continue Reading

White Mass Dinner . . . Hears Of How St. John Paul II Aided Development Of Humanae Vitae

November 7, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on White Mass Dinner . . . Hears Of How St. John Paul II Aided Development Of Humanae Vitae

By DEXTER DUGGAN PHOENIX — St. Paul VI’s historic 1968 encyclical Humanae Vitae featured more involvement in its development than often is realized by St. John Paul II while the future Polish Pope still was serving the Church in his homeland, a New Mexico diocesan official told the annual White Mass dinner for medical professionals here. Fr. Peter Short, one of two vicars general for the Diocese of Gallup, N.M., told the dinner that as he researched the topic of St. John Paul’s Theology of the Body and Humanae Vitae, “I found that there was a fascinating history behind the formulation of the encyclical within which the then-bishop and later Cardinal (Karol) Wojtyla…played a more important role than many imagined…Continue Reading

Living In The Age Of Hypersensitivity

November 6, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on Living In The Age Of Hypersensitivity

By REY FLORES Life used to be much easier when people did not get offended at the slightest comment, joke, or just about any form of expression. Sure, we have always had to have certain content be restricted in all forms of media, be it profanity, pornography, racist epithets, or violence. There has always been an unwritten, but yet prevailing, code of conduct of societal decorum, which was all we needed. Today, one can’t even make a compliment to a woman without being accused of sexual harassment. I know for a fact that most thinking people do not abide by these modern sensitivities. Not only do we not live by these ridiculous snowflake rules, we laugh about them and mock…Continue Reading

Parents Fight Database Pornography In Schools

November 5, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on Parents Fight Database Pornography In Schools

By MIKE MANNO A fight over pornography in school databases has broken out in a Colorado courtroom. In one corner is a database supplier, EBSCO Industries, Inc., along with its sales broker, the Colorado Library Consortium (CLiC); in the other corner is a group of parents, grandparents, and concerned citizens who have banded together under the title Pornography Is Not Education. The parents’ group, represented by the Thomas More Society’s senior counsel Matthew Heffron, is claiming that EBSCO’S databases, which are sold to schools in the state through a brokerage agreement with the Library Consortium, contain links to pornographic sites. Here’s the background to the story: EBSCO is a multifaceted enterprise which, among other ventures, is involved in information services,…Continue Reading

While Waiting For Other Samsons . . . President Trump Does The Heavy Lifting For Republicans

November 4, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on While Waiting For Other Samsons . . . President Trump Does The Heavy Lifting For Republicans

By DEXTER DUGGAN Despite his opponents’ plans to make him a pariah to the public, President Trump plunged into a populace eager to receive his presence in a steady schedule of additional campaign appearances during the final week before the midterm elections on November 6. People thronged by the tens of thousands to attend his talks around the nation in order to affirm their support for this president and his well-known conservative agenda, not because they expected to hear surprise revelations by the president at each whistle stop. Still, Trump showed he could bring forth yet another crowd-pleaser when he called attention to the misapplication of the Fourteenth Amendment’s grant of birthright citizenship, which he rejected. The amendment’s misuse has…Continue Reading

The Question Mark Becomes An Exclamation Point

November 3, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on The Question Mark Becomes An Exclamation Point

By CHRISTOPHER MANION For the past five years, Catholics have tiptoed around the question: What in Heaven’s name is our Supreme Pontiff doing? Early on, he told us to “make a mess” (“¡Hagan lìo!”), but he didn’t tell us how to clean it up. Instead, “Who am I to judge?” became his mantra — even as his radical agenda became very judgmental indeed. In short order, the newly elected Pope Francis made a public spectacle of joining internationalist secular elites advocating a malevolent left-wing political and cultural agenda. Global warming, mass immigration, anti-Americanism, and anti-capitalism emerged as constant themes. He became the darling of the international media, a status which he appeared to enjoy despite their profound hatred of everything…Continue Reading

The Long Magisterial Parliament Ends; Will Division Follow?

November 2, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on The Long Magisterial Parliament Ends; Will Division Follow?

By SHAUN KENNEY If there is anything more boring in this world, it is a bunch of 40 year old men telling 60 year old men what 20 year old men want to hear — then cranking out a document that no one will read much less be inspired by. Such is the magisterial parliament known as the Youth Synod, my friends. Which is really an Old Synod designed to bore young people. The final report of the synod has yet to be published much less debated, but by the time this reaches your hands, the final document will be produced in substance. At the moment, several riders and amendments known as modi are being submitted, and the long-derided Instrumentum…Continue Reading

Cardinal Burke . . . Tells Faithful To Hold Fast To Christ’s Will

November 1, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on Cardinal Burke . . . Tells Faithful To Hold Fast To Christ’s Will

By PEGGY MOEN ROME – “There is a danger, there’s a real danger” of a schism in the Catholic Church, said Raymond Cardinal Burke, when interviewed here October 22, during the final week of the Synod on Young People, the Faith, and Vocational Discernment. He encourages Catholics to “remain faithful to what is Christ’s will” – even when the Pope seems to be doing something else. “I understand how much the faithful are suffering,” said His Eminence. “But schism can never be right.” “I think that the laity have to communicate with their priests and their bishops [about] their profound concerns.” Underlying this threat of schism is a real feeling on the part of many Catholics that they are living…Continue Reading

Covering Up Kermit Gosnell’s Sordid Undertaking Just A Part Of Enabling Permissive Abortion

October 31, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on Covering Up Kermit Gosnell’s Sordid Undertaking Just A Part Of Enabling Permissive Abortion

By DEXTER DUGGAN PHOENIX — Although it may seem hard to believe that an abortionist like Philadelphia’s Kermit Gosnell was free to wreak medical havoc for decades, a Phoenix physician told The Wanderer that Gosnell’s impunity had a certain perverse logic to it, as illustrated in the recently released “house of horrors” movie Gosnell: The Trial of America’s Biggest Serial Killer. It shows officialdom scared of challenging an abortionist and brushing aside complaints from people he victimized. Speaking generally, James Asher, D.O., said by e-mail, “If there are complaints, then the medical board gets involved along with whomever else might have an interest. I would guess medical boards are quite fearful of media coverage if they get involved with an…Continue Reading

The Gosnell Divide

October 30, 2018 Frontpage Comments Off on The Gosnell Divide

By MIKE MANNO My neighborhood movie theater has half-price Tuesdays, see any movie for $5.25. I’m not a big movie buff, but when I see something I think I’d like, I take a chance on the early Tuesday morning showing. Unfortunately, popcorn (the killer kind, with lots of butter) and a soda still cost eleven bucks, but what the heck? It gets me out of the house for a couple of hours even if I don’t like the movie. This past week I saw Gosnell: The Trial of America’s Biggest Serial Killer. It was moving and tearful, and if you can only see one movie for the rest of your life, this is the one to see. It is about…Continue Reading
