The Liturgical Reconquista Of Pope Benedict XVI

January 19, 2023 Frontpage Comments Off on The Liturgical Reconquista Of Pope Benedict XVI

By JAMES MONTI The passing of Pope Benedict XVI on the very last day of 2022 has cast a long shadow over the beginning of the new year as the Church reflects upon the loss of one of her most heroic and eloquent champions in the battle against postmodern secularism.Yet from this occasion for sorrow there arises the opportunity to revisit his legacy and reawaken in ourselves what he taught us. Among his greatest gifts to the Church was his liturgical Reconquista (Re-conquest), a taking back of the sacred liturgy and the House of God from those who for over four decades had been working to purge sacrality from the Church’s worship. Considering that the papacy of Pope Benedict lasted…Continue Reading

Republican Majority Sets Ambitious Goals For 118th Congress

January 18, 2023 Frontpage Comments Off on Republican Majority Sets Ambitious Goals For 118th Congress

By CHRISTOPHER MANION Some observers made a big deal of the turmoil during the first hours of the 118th Congress, but all in all, it was pretty routine: The Republicans’ purpose was to answer the age-old question posed by Secretary of State Al Haig upon hearing on March 30, 1981 that President Reagan had been shot:“Who’s in charge here?”Once the dust settled, the Republican majority got to work on its agenda. On that score, Ohio Cong. Jim Jordan laid out the game plan.“In two years’ time,” he said, “we have a border that is no longer a border, we have a military that can’t meet its recruitment goals. We have bad energy policy, bad education policy, record spending, record inflation,…Continue Reading

A Beacon Of Light… All The Gifts Of The Magi

January 17, 2023 Frontpage Comments Off on A Beacon Of Light… All The Gifts Of The Magi

By FR. RICHARD D. BRETON Jr. Recently, we celebrated the Feast of the Epiphany, also known by some as The Feast of the Three Kings. The Epiphany is defined as “a manifestation of the Divine” as was seen by the Magi. Traditionally this feast is celebrated on January 6, but it has been moved to the Second Sunday within the Christmas Season. This year, it fell on Sunday, January 8, 2023.As the Gospels relate, after Jesus was born, while still in Bethlehem, Magi from the East came to pay homage to the newborn King. These Magi from the East were Caspar, Balthazar, and Melchior. The Magi were kings themselves, and yet, they visited the ultimate King! These kings traveled long…Continue Reading

The Religions Of Congress

By DEACON MIKE MANNO The Pew Research Center has released its findings of the religious makeup of the 118th Congress which took office at the beginning of this month. Among its findings is that the number of Catholic members is down ten members, to 148 from the 158 in the previous 117th Congress, which ended in December. The report noted that those members of Congress who claim Christianity as their religious preference was at 88 percent, while at the same time in the population at large the percentage of those claiming to be Christian had dropped from 78 percent to 63 percent since 2007. Going back a bit further, the report noted that in the 96th Congress (1979-1980) 91 percent of…Continue Reading

Americans Are No Longer Americans

By DONALD DeMARCO A group of linguistic roughnecks at Stanford University, in an effort to improve human relations, issued the “Elimination of Harmful Language Initiative.” To be more accurate, the group was concerned with the elimination of harmful words. Such words, according to the group, which did not lack self-confidence, should be stricken from the dictionary. The group was overestimating its power.A backlash against this effort was powerful enough to elicit the response below from the group. This article for The Wanderer was completed before the response was widely publicized. Wednesday, January 4, 2023 “The Elimination of Harmful Language Initiative (EHLI) was an effort co-sponsored by the Stanford CIO Council and the People of Color in Technology (POC-IT) affinity group.…Continue Reading

As Leftists Inflame Global Culture War . . . What Can Touch Their Hearts And Consciences To Change?

By DEXTER DUGGAN PHOENIX — The political left wing continues to force its agenda around the world, from Washington, D.C., to France to Brazil to Arizona. What tools are at hand for other people to push back? Touching hearts and consciences? Rejecting arrogant politicians? Praying and marching? After Abby Johnson fled her job as the manager of a Planned Parenthood abortion clinic in Texas in 2009, she told what it was like there.Although abortion clinic workers may euphemize the dismembered infants as “products of conception” or POCS, Johnson said she heard them called “pieces of children.”With the same macabre attempt at humor, there was a place called “the nursery.” That’s where the dismembered infants’ bodies would be reassembled, in order to…Continue Reading

“Practicing” Catholics Or “Delusional” Catholics

January 13, 2023 Frontpage Comments Off on “Practicing” Catholics Or “Delusional” Catholics

By TOM TAKASH The list seems to be unending: Catholic politicians, academics, your next-door neighbor, even your best friends, can claim to adhere to the Catholic faith, but at the same time claim that it’s a woman’s right to “terminate her pregnancy.” They repeat the same catchy phrases like “reproductive rights” and “her body, her choice” that the radical Church-haters spout. It doesn’t matter to them that they directly defy Church teaching on abortion. They proudly profess to be Catholics, and insist they are in good standing with the Church. They regularly attend Mass and receive the Eucharist, but they also defend abortion, and not just passively but often with an almost religious devotion, professing support for “women’s rights” while ignoring…Continue Reading

Is The Supreme Court A Safe Harbor In The Storm?

January 12, 2023 Frontpage Comments Off on Is The Supreme Court A Safe Harbor In The Storm?

By CHRISTOPHER MANION For many years, the Federal Judiciary was called “the least dangerous branch.”Today, it might be our only hope.In 1787, Alexander Hamilton, James Madison, and John Jay wrote The Federalist Papers, a collection of newspaper columns designed to persuade the People of New York to approve the Constitution that the Founders had adopted in Philadelphia. At the time, New York voters were preparing to vote on delegates who would meet in their state convention to ratify or to reject the text. The vote was “a close run thing,” as the Duke of Wellington described the Battle of Waterloo twenty-seven years later. However, after over a month of deliberation, New York delegates successfully ratified the text by a vote of…Continue Reading

From Awesome To Awful . . . Florida’s DeSantis And Arizona’s Hobbs Are Vivid Contrast As Governors

January 11, 2023 Frontpage Comments Off on From Awesome To Awful . . . Florida’s DeSantis And Arizona’s Hobbs Are Vivid Contrast As Governors

By DEXTER DUGGAN PHOENIX — Arizona is better off than Florida because you’re able, if necessary, to stomp on many of the things that could kill you here (think scorpions and rattlesnakes), but you can’t in Florida (crocodiles and alligators).Florida is better off than Arizona because it has Gov. Ron DeSantis. It’s always tempting to think of moving to a more attractive state if your own gets really out of whack. Even loyally dedicated New Yorker and New York Post columnist Karol Markowicz finally was driven to relocate with her family to the Sunshine State in January 2022 because of the insanely damaging policies of the Empire State’s left-wing politicians, especially victimizing children’s education. No doubt many thousands of people fleeing to…Continue Reading

By FR. RICHARD D. BRETON Jr. (Editor’s Note: Fr. Richard D. Breton Jr. is a priest of the Diocese of Norwich, Conn.) + + The recent passing of His Holiness, Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, has prompted me to offer a tribute regarding this great man of the Church.Born April 16, 1927, as Joseph Alois Ratzinger in Marktl am Inn, Germany, Ratzinger’s father was a policeman and his mother a hotel cook. The youngest of three children, Ratzinger was six years old when the Nazis took power in Germany in 1933; his parents, who were staunch Catholics, were hostile to the regime. Ratzinger entered the seminary in 1939. In 1941 he was compelled to join the Hitler Youth and in 1943…Continue Reading
