Welcome To Washington’s BMZ

February 6, 2021 Frontpage Comments Off on Welcome To Washington’s BMZ

By CHRISTOPHER MANION Capitol Hill, known collectively as “the People’s House,” is now surrounded by a twelve-foot-high stockade topped with rolled barbed wire. Military veterans liken it to the fortifications surrounding Baghdad’s “Green Zone.” That’s the “International Zone” that houses the Iraqi government and the U.S. Embassy in Iraq, which is still the target of frequent terrorist missile attacks. The original purpose of the stockade was to “Protect the Capitol” during the inauguration on January 20. Of course, nobody was going to show up, but so what? Its purpose is more abiding. It symbolizes the designs of the Democrat regime that now rules the White House and Capitol Hill.As the seven-foot fence (now doubled in height to twelve feet plus two…Continue Reading

Lazarus

By JOE SIXPACK Of all Jesus’ parables, only one tells the name of any character. The parable I’m talking about is the one we call “Lazarus and Dives” or “Lazarus and the Rich Man” (Luke 16:19-31). This is the story Jesus told of a beggar who was afflicted with horrible open sores. He lay outside the rich man’s gate, wanting only to be fed from the waste that fell from the rich man’s table, but the rich man ignored him. According to Jesus’ story, Lazarus died and was carried by the angels to “Abraham’s bosom.” The rich man also died and was buried.Due to the way the rich man had lived in his lack of charity, he was punished with…Continue Reading

Questions Of Time And Eternity

By JOHN YOUNG Problems are clarified by making the right distinctions. This can be particularly important when we are discussing divine things and God’s Revelation to the human race. I’ll just take five questions here, and seek to clarify the issues by making necessary distinctions. Let’s start with this question: Are God, Jesus, And Mary Saddened By Sin? We might recall apparitions in which the Blessed Virgin looked sorrowful or shed tears as she spoke of the offenses committed against her Divine Son. And we speak of sin as an offense against God; but if He is offended doesn’t this imply sorrow on His part?Well, we can dismiss the idea that the Divine Nature of God suffers or is changed…Continue Reading

Biden “Enemy Of Catholic Faith”… Remember Crime Families Who Entertained Us With Duplicity?

By DEXTER DUGGAN The Biden family is being held up for admiration by partisan media as faithful churchgoing Catholics setting an example. Why, senescent Joe Biden can receive the Holy Eucharist on the weekend then promote massive tax-paid abortion, enforced transgenderism, and naked men in women’s lavatories back in the Oval Office. How nice for this rosary-praying family man to go to Mass along with son and shakedown artist Hunter, hungry for bagels following church, after bringing home some foreign dough for Dad, “the Big Guy,” scandalous illegality that dominant media had refused to acknowledge.Doubters can look at the image-rich Bidens in the pews and recall another crime family, the Corleones, from the Godfather movies that began their release in the…Continue Reading

A Beacon Of Light… A Mob Of False Truths

By FR. RICHARD D. BRETON JR. (Editor’s Note: Fr. Richard D. Breton Jr. is a priest of the Diocese of Norwich, Conn. He received his BA in religious studies and his MA in dogmatic theology from Holy Apostles College and Seminary in Cromwell, Conn.) + + “Then Pilate said to Jesus, ‘So you are a king, are you?’ Jesus answered, ‘You say that I am a king. For this I was born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.’ Pilate said to him, ‘What is truth?’ After saying this, he went back out to the Jews and told them, ‘I find no…Continue Reading

Are Democrats Really Trying To Scuttle The Church?

February 1, 2021 Frontpage Comments Off on Are Democrats Really Trying To Scuttle The Church?

By DEACON MIKE MANNO Several times in this column, I’ve mentioned my earlier allegiance to the Democratic Party. I attended conventions, held party office, and was elected as a Democrat to public office. I was as partisan as they come and have the newspaper clippings to prove it.I came of political age while in grade school. My dad one day pointed to a football game on TV (it was all black and white then) and told me that a senator I had never heard of, by the name of Kennedy, was at the game. In response to my question, he told me that the senator was a Catholic and was going to run for president. That’s when I first fell in…Continue Reading

Putting Trump On Trial . . . Handy Way To Divert Americans’ Attention From Biden’s Blitzkrieg On Them

By DEXTER DUGGAN With President Trump headed into an unprecedented sort of Senate trial scheduled to begin the week of February 8, an added note was that this legally dubious proceeding was as much a feint as anything else — a Democrat diversion to draw Americans’ attention away from the contours of the radical Biden administration emerging. For his new rulership, cognitively declining Joe Biden dug up about any futile scheme and failed official from the disabling years when he served as conniving Barack Obama’s vice president, empowering them to carry their dysfunction on into governing in the 2020s.Professional politicians like Biden, with nearly a half-century of government tenure on his résumé, don’t want an approach that solves serious problems when…Continue Reading

Hard Times Call For Clarity, Not Comfort

By CHRISTOPHER MANION On the first Sunday in July 1980, I attended Mass at Georgetown’s Holy Trinity Parish. It’s one of Washington’s oldest parishes, and liberals all over the Washington area call Holy Trinity home. The celebrant that day, Fr. Francis X. Moan, SJ, gave a homily reflecting on a recent pastoral letter from a bishop in Florida. The letter roundly condemned the death penalty, as well as those who supported it.After Mass, I said hello to Fr. Moan. After explaining that I was from out of town, I asked him why he’d talked about politics, and not the Gospel. After all, the Gospel that day told the story of the woman who had suffered from a hemorrhage for twelve years.…Continue Reading

The Most Excellent Teacher

By JOE SIXPACK A very wealthy couple, in spite of all their money and possessions, lived in constant unhappiness and almost daily fighting. The wife often cried bitterly while the husband often stormed out of the house angrily. One day the wife was looking through her grandmother’s diary when she happened to come across a page with this title: “A household remedy for discontent.” She read it hopefully, anxious to see if her grandmother could offer her any wisdom. This is what she found:“Whenever I feel miserable or in a bad temper, I go to the picture of the ‘Ecce Homo’ and place myself at its feet. I look at it closely and meditatively for three minutes, then recite three Our…Continue Reading

Canceling The Truth: It’s Been Done Before… The Martyrdom Of Catholic Publisher Blessed William Carter (+1584)

By JAMES MONTI Across the ages, the false prophets of “liberation” who have sought to overthrow the laws of God and the truths of the Catholic faith, touting their disobedience and disbelief as “this glorious liberty of ours” (Martin Luther), have in the end had to resort to the ruthless control of information to impose their so-called “freedom” upon society. Their bumper stickers tell us, “Resist,” and “Question Authority,” but they themselves will not tolerate opposition to their own agenda. It was no different four centuries ago.On April 13, 1582, a London home was raided by Elizabethan England’s most feared public agent, Richard Topcliffe. It was there that he arrested a 51-year-old Catholic layman, Thomas More of Barnborough, who bore…Continue Reading
