Biden Introduces New Dimensions In Coercion And Control
By CHRISTOPHER MANION
Here we go again. Joe Biden continues abusing executive authority to enforce his radical agenda, and he’s not stopping at abortion.
In May, the Biden administration’s Department of Agriculture (DoA) issued an edict announcing that it will change how it interprets Title IX prohibitions on discrimination based on sex.
That section of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 reads: “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”
According to its May edict, the Biden administration will now amend Title IX by decree. It now prohibits “discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.”
Orwell lives. The same administration that can’t tell a “man” from a “woman” now insists that “sex” will henceforth be translated as “gender.”
And “gender,” a term which once referred to the grammatical classification of nouns, has been changed in the Woke World to refer to some 58 stages of consciousness of college undergraduates filling out dorm room applications.
In 2019, Pelosi’s House of Representatives had attempted to pass this challenge to reality in HR 5, the “Equality Act.” Eight Republicans joined 228 Democrats to pass the House version of the bill, but it didn’t stand a chance in the Senate.
Joe Biden said, “So what? I’ll legislate it by Executive Order!”
And instead of announcing it from the Oval Office and igniting a firestorm, Biden quietly had it issued by the federal government’s liaison to farmers.
Moreover, he has chosen to corrupt fundamental constitutional law in every zip code in America by blackmailing children.
The DoA directive continues: “That change means that schools that accept any kind of funding, including students receiving FAFSA (the agency’s student aid program) or Pell grants or students who receive federally subsidized school lunch funding, will be subject to the new Title IX LGBT interpretation.”
It’s all about money and control.
What Justice Alito called the court’s “raw judicial power” in Roe has now been expanded to include raw executive power.
The Death Of A Thousand Cuts
Why did Biden choose an agency that deals with food to make this move?
It’s called “messaging.” The cynical revisionists have adopted the Chinese Communist tactics of the “Death of a Thousand Cuts.”
The Deep State comprises literally thousands of bureaus, offices, departments, and officials. The Biden administration has recruited every one of them in its perpetual war for domination over a population still reeling from the Democrats’ lockdown disasters.
And they do it with hubris and contempt: “Listen here, Deplorables! The mere edict of any unelected federal bureaucrat can overturn laws passed by Congress, defy federal court decisions, and magically transform the meaning of words, without any pretense of accountability.”
Note how the administration selects the target of this attack: It seeks to nationalize “gender ideology” by forcing it on virtually every government school in the country.
Only colleges like Hillsdale, Grove City, and Christendom who refuse to accept federal funding are exempt.
Lesson learned: No federal funding means no federal power.
Meet Federally
Engineered Atheism
Joe Biden is widely known for his affection for children. Why would he use them for such a corrupt end?
It does invite pause to ponder.
But wait, won’t America’s government-funded schools fight back against this monstrosity?
Not likely — and Biden knows it.
After all, the final responsibility for implementing Biden’s “gender ideology” ultimatum will lie in the hands of government school unions and college and university administrators.
These two groups are among the country’s most dependably radical political factions.
Lyman Stone of the American Enterprise Institute describes how government has used funding and regulation to enlist these factions in its perpetual search for power:
“[E]xpansions in government service provision and especially increasingly secularized government control of education significantly drive secularization.” he writes. “[They] can account for virtually the entire increase in secularization around the developed world. The decline in religiosity in America is not the product of a natural change in preferences, but an engineered outcome of clearly identifiable policy choices in the past.”
As recent events have proven, the secular state and government-funded schools have targeted the values of faith and family for destruction. These allies will undoubtedly be more than pleased to embrace and impose the “engineered outcome” that Biden’s directive requires.
They have learned from Hannah Arendt, the refugee from Nazi Germany who explained the educational dogma of all tyrannies seventy years ago.
“The aim of totalitarian education has never been to instill convictions but to destroy the capacity to form any,” Arendt wrote.
And in destroying that intellectual capacity, the intrepid engineers have filled the vacuum with a secular sea of self-indulgence, unfettered by those intrusive Ten Commandments that used to hang on every classroom wall.
Lyman Stone calls America’s decline in religiosity an “engineered outcome” of policy choice.
Will a campaign of “reverse engineering” turn America’s public schools around?
Or should we concentrate our efforts elsewhere, on efforts more likely to produce success instead of frustration and failure?
There Must Be A Better Way
Mary Rice Hasson and Theresa Farnan, authors of Get Out Now, have warned Catholic parents about “the ideological capture of public education and the very real threats that gender ideology and ‘wokeness’ pose to their children’s faith and psychological stability.”
They aren’t kidding. Recent events right here in Virginia’s Loudoun County prove how right they are (it’s no accident that they are both daughters of the late Notre Dame Law professor Charles Rice).
Let’s face it. The school unions, among the most radical and effective political forces in the country, have engineered an almost unassailable war machine dedicated to debasing public schools to the point that they become prep schools for docile serfs of secular socialism.
Consider the computer engineer faced with a cumbersome, overpriced, energy-hogging machine incapable of performing even the most basic logical and computational functions.
Add to that his discovery that the machine has installed zero security, was never protected against hackers, and has been infected by several well-known viruses that have disabled it and threaten any others that link to it.
Should the engineer try to fix it? Or should he declare it irreparable, toss it in the recycle bin, and spend his time on a system that will work?
When it comes to education, maybe it’s time for some “reverse engineering.”
As Sherlock Holmes said to Watson, “Watson, when I say you are instructive, I mean I learn from your mistakes.”
Yes, we should learn from the mistakes that have caused the decline in America’s government schools, but we shouldn’t be forced to repeat them.
We noted above that Biden’s latest exercise of the executive’s powers of perversion can be imposed only on “any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”
No federal financial assistance, no power.
Let’s not make that mistake again.
And that’s why America’s best hope in education is renouncing the federal funding and control of education and returning it to the fifty states, where public funds will support students, not unions, and freedom of choice will allow families to decide what’s best for their children.
