Democrats And Abortion In Montana
By BARBARA SIMPSON
Abortion is one of those subjects that separates the men from the boys, as it were. It is a subject that is difficult to consider and becomes even more difficult when the information is explicit in its presentation.
The issue has gotten great attention in the Montana Legislature as that state has been hearing a series of pro-life bills — especially House Bill 721, which would ban dismemberment abortions that kill nearly fully formed, second-trimester unborn babies. The procedure would kill those unborn babies by pulling them apart while still alive and removing the body, in pieces, from the womb. (See Micaiah Bilger’s article on these developments in LifeNews.com of March 29, 2023.)
Interestingly, it is reported that outraged Montana Senate Democrats walked out of the committee hearing because they did not want to hear how abortions brutally kill unborn babies. According to Montana Public Radio, the lawmakers claimed the language was “unnecessarily graphic and inflammatory.”
Doctors and former abortionists confirm that second trimester abortions using the D&E method are, in fact, barbaric and brutal. An OB-GYN and former abortionist, Dr. Anthony Levatino, who is now pro-life, says the D&E abortion is a “brutal procedure in which a living human being is torn to pieces.”
It has also been reported that State Sen. Jen Gross (D., Billings) became angry during the Judiciary Hearing when pro-lifers used the word “barbaric” to describe these abortion procedures. She was further angered when another lawmaker linked abortion to “Satanism.”
But Satanic practices and abortion are linked. One group, The Satanic Temple, is actively involved in pro-abortion advocacy. It recently filed several lawsuits that claim aborting unborn babies is a religious “ritual” and banning abortions violates its members’ religious beliefs.
Montana Senate Republicans reminded their Democrat colleagues that part of their job as lawmakers is to listen to testimonies, including from constituents, advocates, and experts with whom they disagree.
Later, the committee chair, Republican Sen. Keith Regier, from Kalispell, met with Senate Minority Leader Pat Flowers and other Democrats privately to discuss the matter.
At this point, Republicans control the Montana Legislature. They are now considering legislation to ban all late-term abortions in the state, require abortion complications to be reported to the state, and make clear that the state constitution does not include a right to abort unborn babies.
The State Department of Public Health and Human Services reports that in 2020, there were 1,675 abortions in Montana.
There are other bills under consideration, including legislation to totally ban late-term abortions, require that abortion complications be reported to the state, and to make clear that the state constitution does not include the right to abort unborn babies.
Also, some bills would prohibit taxpayer funding for abortions and require that aborted babies’ bodies be cremated or buried.
Republicans control the Montana Legislature.
How all of this will be resolved remains to be seen. There is no doubt that there is great controversy over the issue but despite that, there needs to be a resolution to the dispute. Some people want there to be the option of abortion when pregnancy is not wanted — but this ignores the basic dispute as to whether the procedure is the deliberate killing of a viable human being.
Is it murder? And if not, what else could it be? And if it is murder, how can it be allowed at all?
