Trump Salutes… Two Very Different Catholic Women Who Reached Out To A World In Crisis

September 14, 2016 Frontpage No Comments

By DEXTER DUGGAN

Over the Labor Day weekend, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump saluted two Catholic women of modest beginnings whose influence grew mighty, Mother Teresa and Phyllis Schlafly.
Their common foundation: traditional, biblical values that aid and ennoble bodies and souls.
Some might say the newly canonized saint’s work with the desperately poor and the Illinois conservative activist’s involvement with unpredictable politics meant they both labored in the gutters. But both wanted to lift problem-plagued people far above that.
A critic might scoff that Schlafly’s political endeavors hardly were comparable to St. Mother Teresa’s charities. But Schlafly was dedicated to drawing people upward from the deadly left-wing gangster thugdoms that oppressed and killed tens of millions elsewhere, and she wanted to prevent them happening here.
Trump issued a video tribute to the Albanian-born nun canonized September 4, then tweeted his admiration for “truly great Phyllis Schlafly,” who died at age 92 the next day, Labor Day.
Endorsing politicians wasn’t the saint’s business, although she memorably shamed the Democratic Party’s current presidential nominee, Hillary Clinton, 22 years ago at a stirring prayer breakfast talk in Washington, D.C., that included a plea to protect the lives of unborn babies.
Radically pro-abortion, heartless Hillary and husband Bill, then the president, squirmed and refrained from joining the standing ovation for the diminutive nun’s entreaty in 1994 for the most innocent and defenseless. Mother Teresa was speaking truth to power that many Catholic Church officials have shirked doing, apparently fearful of politically embarrassing sinful Democrat friends.
But backing politicians was very much part of Schlafly’s business through much of her life, capped with what some considered a surprise seal of approval for Trump’s presidential candidacy this year.
However, even when she burst onto the national scene back in 1964 with her tremendously successful book A Choice Not An Echo, Schlafly was criticizing decades of “secret kingmakers” who kept forcing their clueless choices for president onto Republicans — even though the candidates often were losers.
This year Schlafly was said to favor Trump because his wealth gave him the freedom to be independent from such controllers. Indeed, the very day after her death, her latest book was hitting the shelves, The Conservative Case for Trump (Regnery).
The Conservative Book Club website commented: “In The Conservative Case for Trump, Schlafly and her coauthors Ed Martin and Brett M. Decker set aside the circus of the campaign and zero in on eight defining points of the Trump agenda to convince Republican voters that Donald Trump — improbable as it may seem — is the true conservative we’ve been waiting for.”
The August issue of her four-page monthly newsletter, The Phyllis Schlafly Report, is headlined, “Trump battles the globalists of both parties.” It reflects her continued dedication to Trump as America’s necessary warrior. Some doubted that her choice was wise. With the passage of Earthly time grasped differently in the next world, perhaps she already knows if she, or her critics, is correct.
Schlafly went to her final rest on an official holiday of rest from one’s labors, and an American day honoring labor — the end of a life rooted in hard work and simplicity, the Catholic faith and determination.
It’s plain the United States is much farther down the road to degeneracy than when Schlafly set out to rescue it.
Were her labors in vain? Not at all. Without conservative resistance to the Godless globalist blueprint, we might already be in gulags for believers and traditionalists that have started to be sighted over the horizon, cold, bare barracks pounded together by hammers that cruel Barack Obama’s caddy, George Soros, carries around with shackles in the golf bag.
Still, how have we approached this precipice when we yet have a functioning republican democracy? Because we really don’t. Despite appearances, the U.S. mostly is run by administrative functionaries beyond popular control, and a judicial dictatorship entirely above us.
Massive permissive abortion, degenerate “same-sex marriage,” bathroom invasions against privacy and dignity — only three of the outrages that could be cited, generated entirely without basis but by fiat.
For whatever hellish reason, agenda-setting dominant media are gratified, not agonized, by these aggressions, and don’t try to perform their entrusted role of public service by holding them back.
As researcher Brian Clowes wrote on the front page of the September 8, 2016, Wanderer, in “Never Trump? The Case Against ‘Sitting Out’ The Presidential Election,” the president shapes the entire federal court system. In these days, under an aggressive, unaccountable judiciary, that means law imposed upon every single aspect of our lives, from the greatest issue to the least.
Must you be forced to pay taxes for Planned Parenthood’s permissive baby-slaughter? Leftist judges will decide. Will you be permitted to possess a firearm to protect yourself and your family? Hillary Clinton’s lawyers will tell you, if she gains the White House. And on and on.
Does the Constitution count at all? Why, the old document is no more necessary than putting streetlights on the surface of the sun. The blinding brilliance of leftists’ unhinged ideas is considered all the illumination that anyone ever could need.
This is dictatorship already afoot in our land, and ready to put on its hobnailed boots to imprint on our skulls.
Theoretically, the power of the president to staff the judiciary is limited by politicians’ review of and agreement with his decisions. But many D.C. Republicans are more than eager to play the political game of approving judges who simply will overthrow important conservative legislation that comes before them.
Suffice it to say that way back in the 1990s, when sex-predator President Bill Clinton sent the names of well-known left-wing extremists Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer to the U.S. Senate for confirmation as justices, Sen. John McCain (R., Ariz.) and other GOP sellouts were more than happy to approve them to serve for decades on the Supreme Court.
The sellouts would proclaim their dedication to the pro-life cause while fully knowing such judges would crush pro-life laws at every opportunity. What a sweet charade!
Indeed, McCain recently paraded about in his Arizona re-election campaign displaying his endorsements both from National Right to Life and Arizona Right to Life. A sucker’s game.
Sharply focused Democrat politicians, on the other hand, would fight like tigers to prevent pro-life jurists from being nominated or gaining power.
Whatever meritorious work that people like Phyllis Schlafly and a thousand others performed, it still could be compromised away, diluted, or cast aside. Maybe that helps explain why Schlafly thought it was time to break the political mold in this year’s campaign.
In political thug world, the ongoing left-wing impoverishment and destruction of Venezuela serve as a model and warning of what’s possible. Defiant liar and aloof lawbreaker Hillary Clinton surely can find a government job in Caracas if she doesn’t win the Oval Office.
Or don’t forget how Communist China, a showplace for population controllers, intimately, brutally interferes with family life, a dictatorship that sets croaking, corrupt Hillary aglow — to the extent that her questionable health allows her to glow at all.
Many have noted that every four years Americans are told the upcoming presidential election is absolutely critical, but the warning takes on new urgency after eight years of lying, lawbreaking, radical Alinskyite Obama and his grim determination to “transform” America, potentially followed by the even worse Alinskyite Hillary.
For all his degeneracy, at least Obama didn’t run for the presidency in 2008 with the incomprehensible record of Hillary, intentionally destroying tens of thousands of government emails that would land her in federal prison for being a greedy international shakedown artist.
In 1973, liberal media, as well as young Hillary, howled after the scalp of GOP President Richard Nixon over a missing 18 minutes of tape-recording, but today editors hopefully anticipate the presidential victory of a Democrat woman who makes Nixon in comparison look like a bad little boy who stole one penny.
The American Greatness website (amgreatness.com) reprints an article from the Claremont Review of Books, “The Flight 93 Election,” that contends it’s useless for conservatives to hope they can wait out Hillary in the White House and get renewal and relief with projects like a new half-day seminar or tax credit.
The article begins in necessary stark terms, harking to the hijacked jetliner over Pennsylvania on September 11, 2001:
“2016 is the Flight 93 election: charge the cockpit or you die. You may die anyway. You — or the leader of your party — may make it into the cockpit and not know how to fly or land the plane. There are no guarantees. Except one: if you don’t try, death is certain. To compound the metaphor: a Hillary Clinton presidency is Russian roulette with a semi-auto. With Trump, at least you can spin the cylinder and take your chances.”

Biden The Catechist

Sudden tragedies usually can’t be avoided. But slow-motion tragedies could be seen coming and possibly deflected, even in this hostile age of anti-religious Obama.
We recently were warned by no less than the president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, Archbishop Joseph Kurtz, and two other prelates, “Faithful witness can be challenging” for Catholics, “and it will only grow more challenging in the years to come.”
Who has helped put this pressure on faithful Catholics? Bishops without backbone.
Last March Obama gunslinger Joe Biden, the vice president, claimed for Easter at the White House to be “a practicing Catholic,” despite his open, determined defiance of foundational Catholic moral teaching. Does this Delaware liberal Democrat politician decide what required Church teaching is?
When The Wanderer asked the Archdiocese of Washington, D.C., for a reaction, it declined comment. So, for practical purposes, Biden is the recognized catechist, thereby leading others down the path of confusion and scandal.
Possibly further emboldened by clerical cowardice, “Catholic” Biden proceeded to officiate the scandal of a “same-sex wedding” at his own residence as August began.
The Wanderer asked the D.C. Archdiocese again for a reaction. Again, the archdiocese declined to comment. Again, Biden defines Catholic teaching without challenge, betrays others, and backs the bishops further into a corner on their own Flight 93.
The bishops may wonder why the flight attendant isn’t bringing their coffee. Maybe her being dead in the airliner aisle is the reason. One suspects that little St. Mother Teresa and Phyllis Schlafly wouldn’t have let the crisis fly so far.
