Restoring The Sacred The Hands Of A Queen

April 29, 2017 Featured Today Comments Off on Restoring The Sacred The Hands Of A Queen

By JAMES MONTI When in His infinite wisdom and love God fashioned man in His image and likeness, He imparted to the human body a remarkable and matching pair of members specifically crafted to imitate the Creator in His work of creation — the hands. And when in the fullness of time Our Lord refashioned the world by His great work of redemption, He imparted to the human hand new powers even more remarkable than what had already been given. For now the hand became an efficacious instrument of grace, an instrument for conferring, confecting, celebrating, and solemnizing the sacraments. The hands of a priest, conformed by Ordination to those of Christ Himself, were given the unimaginable power of bringing…Continue Reading

Helen Hull Hitchcock… A Woman For Faith And Family

April 27, 2017 Featured Today Comments Off on Helen Hull Hitchcock… A Woman For Faith And Family

By DONALD DeMARCO Helen Hull Hitchcock passed away after a brief illness on October 20, 2014 at age 75. Accolades poured in from around the globe in honor of this extraordinary woman. Mary Shivanandan, a retired faculty member at the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family, and a longtime friend of Helen, provided a concise and accurate summation of Mrs. Hitchcock’s life and contribution to the Church: “In the midst of an increasingly secular culture and a strident feminism, Helen embodied the true ‘woman’s genius’ of John Paul II by bringing to bear her feminine gifts to the pressing problems of our day without compromising her role as wife, mother, and grandmother. Not only by…Continue Reading

Fr. Jacques Hamel’s Cause Is Opened

April 26, 2017 Featured Today Comments Off on Fr. Jacques Hamel’s Cause Is Opened

VATICAN CITY (ZENIT) — The archbishop of Rouen, France, the Most Rev. Dominique Lebrun, confirmed the official opening of the Diocesan Cause of Beatification of Fr. Jacques Hamel, murdered by extremists while celebrating Mass in the church of St. Etienne du Rouvray, in Normandy. The archbishop made the announcement during the Chrism Mass over which he presided on Holy Thursday, in the city’s cathedral. The cause begins thanks to the authorization that came from the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, with Pope Francis’ permission to suspend the canonical law that requires a period of at least five years before the opening of the process of canonization. With Fr. Hamel’s cause, there are now three cases in recent times that…Continue Reading

Not Trump Who’s Big Threat . . . Left-Wing Activists Stir Disruption From Town Halls To Campuses

April 25, 2017 Featured Today Comments Off on Not Trump Who’s Big Threat . . . Left-Wing Activists Stir Disruption From Town Halls To Campuses

By DEXTER DUGGAN PHOENIX — Jeff Flake, one of Arizona’s two Republican U.S. senators who runs for office as a conservative but votes as a “moderate” — like his buddy John McCain — would seem to be the kind of politician left-wing activists should love: a squish whose principles are open to intimidation from the left. However, portside activists enjoyed venting their spleen so much at Flake’s April 13 town-hall meeting in a Phoenix suburb that they didn’t try to reach much accommodation with the junior GOP senator from the Grand Canyon State, who was on their own side of the aisle in criticizing and opposing Donald Trump’s presidential candidacy in 2016. Under a headline saying Flake “spars with wild…Continue Reading

A Tax Reform Plan That May No Longer Work

April 23, 2017 Featured Today Comments Off on A Tax Reform Plan That May No Longer Work

By TERENCE P. JEFFREY (Editor’s Note: Terence P. Jeffrey is the editor in chief of CNSnews.com. Creators Syndicate distributed this column.) + + + My father, who was born in 1922 and lived his teens and early twenties during the unfortunate reign of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, whimsically embraced a tax reform plan that he sardonically explained to me once or twice during his hard-working life. The first step in this plan was to abolish the federal system of withholding taxes from a worker’s paycheck — a system enacted in 1943 by Roosevelt and a Democratic Congress. FDR wanted not only to limit the size of an individual’s income, but also to seize a large share of it before the individual…Continue Reading

Purity Vs. Prudishness

April 22, 2017 Featured Today Comments Off on Purity Vs. Prudishness

By ALICE von HILDEBRAND My Dear Friend: A young acquaintance of mine, who seems to have a serious religious vocation, told me that her “friends” accused her of prudishness because of her systematic refusal to get involved in what are called “affairs.” Someone even urged her to undergo psychiatric treatment. It never occurred to these well-intentioned “friends” that — true as it might be that some people have a psychological fear of sex, and dread the self-donation which it implies — (for the plain reason that there is an obstacle in themselves which blocks this self-giving), there might be very different reasons for turning away from the sexual sphere. This young girl — far from refusing a gift of self…Continue Reading

Dietrich Von Hildebrand . . . A Man of Leonine Character

April 21, 2017 Featured Today Comments Off on Dietrich Von Hildebrand . . . A Man of Leonine Character

By DONALD DeMARCO Alice von Hildebrand titled the biography of her husband, The Soul of a Lion (2000). In the foreword to the book, chronicling the life of one of the 20th century’s greatest Catholic philosophers, Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger (later Pope Benedict XVI) refers to an “epiphanous” moment when Dietrich von Hildebrand first realized the nature and importance of philosophy. He describes what transpired during the course of a long walk with one of his sisters when the young Dietrich persistently rebuffed her protestations that moral values are relative. He answered each of her propositions vigorously with a counterargument of his own. Exasperated, the sister called upon their father for assistance. “Imagine, Father,” the distraught sibling complained, “Dietrich refuses to…Continue Reading
