Culture Of Life 101… “Do Homosexuals Really Believe That They Were ‘Born that Way’?”

June 4, 2015 Featured Today Comments Off on Culture Of Life 101… “Do Homosexuals Really Believe That They Were ‘Born that Way’?”

By BRIAN CLOWES (Editor’s Note: Brian Clowes has been director of research and training at Human Life International since 1995. For electronic copies of previous articles on homosexual “marriage,” the special rights agenda, and the role of homosexuality in the Church crisis, e-mail him at bclowes@hli.org.) + + + Major homosexual activist groups march in lockstep as they declare that “gays” were born that way, and that there is therefore nothing they can do to change their orientation. The media, of course, follow obediently along. Things have gone so far that even homosexuals who want to live “straight” lives are being denied counseling by law in a growing number of states. Of course, the media studiously ignore the leading experts…Continue Reading

Is There A Silver Lining? The Pew Poll And The Decline of Christianity

June 3, 2015 Featured Today Comments Off on Is There A Silver Lining? The Pew Poll And The Decline of Christianity

By JAMES K. FITZPATRICK The recently released Pew Research Center’s Religious Landscape Study documenting the decline of Christianity in the United States has been getting considerable attention of late, including an insightful column from Rey Flores in the May 21 edition of this publication. And with good reason. It shows a dramatic increase in the number of Americans who no longer think of themselves as members of a Christian Church. The secular left is cheering. But not everywhere. Two analyses of the study in establishment liberal publications, The New York Times and The Atlantic magazine, make the case that things may not be as bad for Christianity as one would think on first reading the poll numbers. In the words…Continue Reading

Joe Arpaio’s Attorneys . . . Ask For Judge Snow To Leave Immigration Case

June 2, 2015 Featured Today Comments Off on Joe Arpaio’s Attorneys . . . Ask For Judge Snow To Leave Immigration Case

By DEXTER DUGGAN PHOENIX — Troubling questions about a federal judge’s conflicts of interest and possible bias in a case against Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio led Arpaio’s legal team to request that Judge Murray Snow recuse himself or, if Snow refuses, that it be assigned to a different judge. Even an anti-Arpaio columnist for the state’s largest daily paper, Laurie Roberts of The Arizona Republic, said Arpaio’s team raised “a fair question,” one that local voters need to feel reassured about. In alignment with the views of Arizona’s open-borders elite, Snow has hounded Arpaio’s office against enforcing immigration law, crafting a judicial ruling that the enforcement constitutes forbidden racial profiling. Maricopa County is the fourth most-populous county in the…Continue Reading

Why The Brain Could Not Have Evolved By Chance

June 1, 2015 Featured Today Comments Off on Why The Brain Could Not Have Evolved By Chance

By DONALD DeMARCO Pope St. John Paul II noted the following in his encyclical, Evangelium Vitae: “Through the words, the actions, and the very person of Jesus, man is given the possibility of ‘knowing’ the complete truth concerning the value of human life” (chapter II). The “complete” truth is omitted by the various secular messiahs while their partial truths abound. It is precisely because the partial truth contains some germ of truth that it has appeal. Nevertheless, because it does not include other truths, it can be seriously misleading. Man is more than matter, more than a temporal being, more than feeling, and more than a mere individual. He is a synthesis, a composite, a whole that is an amalgam…Continue Reading

St. Patrick Betrayed . . . Ireland Votes For Same-Sex “Marriage”

May 31, 2015 Featured Today Comments Off on St. Patrick Betrayed . . . Ireland Votes For Same-Sex “Marriage”

By C. JOSEPH DOYLE (Editor’s Note: C. Joseph Doyle is the executive director of the Catholic Action League of Massachusetts.) + + + The Catholic faith and the Christian civilization that St. Patrick brought to Ireland nearly 1,600 years ago was repudiated by more than three-fifths of the voters of the Republic of Ireland on Saturday, May 23, when that country became the first nation on Earth to endorse, by popular referendum, the fashionable, neo-pagan superstition that sodomy is a conjugal act. More than 60 generations of Irishmen and Irishwomen remained loyal to the apostle “who brought to our mountains the gift of God’s faith and the sweet light of His love.” They did so through 800 years of foreign…Continue Reading

When Did America Peak?

May 30, 2015 Featured Today Comments Off on When Did America Peak?

By TERENCE P. JEFFREY (Editor’s Note: Terence P. Jeffrey is the editor-in-chief of CNSnews.com. Creators Syndicate provided this column. All rights reserved.) + + + Is America on its way up? Or down? Within the USS Yorktown, which serves as a floating museum at Patriot Point in South Carolina, there is a replica of the Apollo 8 capsule that went to the moon and back at Christmastime 1968. The Yorktown was there — 47 years ago — to pick up the real Apollo 8 when it splashed down in the wide-open Pacific, carrying the first crew of human beings to ever circle the moon. That was an American ship, manned by American sailors, picking up American astronauts, in an American…Continue Reading

Saving The Fourth

May 29, 2015 Featured Today Comments Off on Saving The Fourth

By ANDREW P. NAPOLITANO The Patriot Act has a bad pedigree and an evil history. In the fearful days immediately following 9/11, the Department of Justice quickly sent draft legislation to Congress that, if enacted, would have permitted federal agents to violate their oaths to uphold the Constitution by writing their own search warrants. The draft subsequently was revealed to have been written before 9/11, but that’s another story. The House Judiciary Committee reviewed the legislation and revised it so that it would meet Fourth Amendment norms. The revised version permitted federal agents to write their own search warrants for business records, but the warrants could be challenged by the custodian of the records or by the person whose records…Continue Reading

Culture Of Life 101 . . . “How Many People Are Homosexuals?”

May 28, 2015 Featured Today Comments Off on Culture Of Life 101 . . . “How Many People Are Homosexuals?”

By BRIAN CLOWES (Editor’s Note: Brian Clowes has been director of research and training at Human Life International since 1995.) + + + “Homosexuality is one in 10. It’s one in 10 on the football team. It’s one in 10 on the baseball team. It’s one in 10 on the softball team. It’s one in 10 on the basketball team. Those are facts” — homosexual activist Pat Griffin. + + + One of the most persuasive arguments that homosexual activists use to support their agenda is the assertion that ten percent of all people are “gay.” If homosexuals can convince people that they make up a much larger portion of the population than they actually represent, they are much more…Continue Reading

It Is A Christian Country: At Least It Used To Be

May 27, 2015 Featured Today Comments Off on It Is A Christian Country: At Least It Used To Be

By JAMES K. FITZPATRICK I realize that there are intelligent commentators on the right who are convinced that homosexual activists are pushing for the day when Christian churches will be compelled by law to perform same-sex marriages. I may be wrong, but I do not think that we will see that dictate anytime soon. It is not that I think the activists are too fair-minded to make such a demand. It is just that I think they realize pushing too far could lead to a backlash. I do agree, however, that the push for same-sex marriage is part of the larger agenda of marginalizing Christianity; that homosexual activists are — as we speak — maneuvering to convince the American people…Continue Reading

Sharper Than A Serpent’s Tooth

May 26, 2015 Featured Today Comments Off on Sharper Than A Serpent’s Tooth

By DONALD DeMARCO Commutative justice demands that we repay what we owe. If I owe my brother $10, I should pay him $10. Justice in this sense is a proportion between the debt and the repayment. It is morally and often legally binding. There is a similar proportion on a higher level though it does not carry a strict obligation. It invites a person to give freely in response to something he has been freely given. A gift should be repaid with gratitude, whereas a debt must be repaid in according to a predetermined amount. The word “should” indicates that the receiver ought to be grateful, but is under no compelling or legal obligation to express this virtue. Nonetheless, the…Continue Reading
