Does Iran Really Want A Bomb?

March 15, 2015 Featured Today Comments Off on Does Iran Really Want A Bomb?

By PATRICK J. BUCHANAN America, we have a problem. In the blood-soaked chaotic Middle East, with few exceptions like the Kurds, our friends either can’t or won’t fight. The Free Syrian Army folded. The U.S.-armed Hazm force in Syria has just collapsed after being routed by the al-Nusra Front. The Iraqi army we trained and equipped fled Mosul and ran all the way to Baghdad. The Turks could annihilate ISIS in Syria, but they won’t fight. Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Arabs have sent zero troops to fight ISIS. A handful of air strikes is it. Now consider what our old enemies have done and are doing. Hezbollah and Iran have sustained Bashar Assad’s Syrian army for four years and…Continue Reading

A Book Review . . . Trials Big And Small

March 14, 2015 Featured Today Comments Off on A Book Review . . . Trials Big And Small

By REY FLORES Still That Girl by Rebecca Dominick, paperback: 2014. Available at amazon.com. It isn’t every day that a 16-year-old publishes a book, but that it’s someone coming from a Catholic home-schooled family does not surprise me at all. The young author is Rebecca Dominick and her very first book is titled Still That Girl. Still That Girl is a story about life, and its trials big and small. The story opens on a pleasant home scene where the different Anderson family members are going about their own business and enjoying the quiet snowy afternoon. Katarina, the youngest Anderson, is a happy 13-year-old enjoying time with her best friend Abigail Dunham; the two can hardly look at each other…Continue Reading

Our Lady And The New Evangelization

March 13, 2015 Featured Today Comments Off on Our Lady And The New Evangelization

By DONAL ANTHONY FOLEY This article will look at the Marian dimension of the New Evangelization in the documents of Vatican II, and also in the teaching of Popes John Paul II and Benedict, as well as further aspects of the Fatima message. We can see the documents of Vatican II as a blueprint for the New Evangelization. The problem is that for various reasons — mainly the rise of the counterculture from the 1960s onwards — that blueprint hasn’t been put into practice, and Marian devotion, has, in general, been on the decline. The fact that Lumen Gentium, Vatican II’s dogmatic Constitution of the Church, has a whole section devoted to our Lady, rather than dealing with her in…Continue Reading

The Administration’s Conundrum

March 12, 2015 Featured Today Comments Off on The Administration’s Conundrum

By REY FLORES The Obama administration and its supporters and all Obama’s water carriers in the mainstream news media are running two parallel agendas at the same time, though both these agendas are at complete odds with each other. The Council on American-Islamic Relations is celebrating the fact that New York Mayor Bill de Blasio just made it official that all public schools, starting in the 2015-2016 school year, will close on September 25 in observance of Eid al-Adha and will also close for the end of Ramadan, or Eid al-Fitr. Zead Ramadan, a board member of CAIR, told the AP, “After years of advocating by New York City’s Muslim community, Muslim public school students will finally and thankfully no…Continue Reading

Are Indulgences Contrary To The Spirit Of Eastern Orthodoxy?

March 11, 2015 Featured Today Comments Off on Are Indulgences Contrary To The Spirit Of Eastern Orthodoxy?

By JAMES LIKOUDIS It is well known that indulgences have been the object of much misunderstanding and polemical abuse by Protestants since the days of Martin Luther, who heaped upon them all the fierce invective of which he was master. Curiously, in his earlier days as an Augustinian friar, Luther correctly explained in a sermon in July 1516 the use and benefits of indulgences. He noted that an indulgence is the remission, in whole or in part, of the temporal punishment due to sin, after the sin has been forgiven in the Sacrament of Penance. No sin was forgiven by an indulgence and indulgences were not a permission to commit further sin; moreover, indulgences did not give full pardon for…Continue Reading

Culture Of Life 101 . . . “What Are The Environmental Impacts Of Hormonal Birth Control?”

March 10, 2015 Featured Today Comments Off on Culture Of Life 101 . . . “What Are The Environmental Impacts Of Hormonal Birth Control?”

By BRIAN CLOWES (Editor’s Note: Brian Clowes has been director of research and training at Human Life International since 1995.) + + + Have you ever stopped for gas and, as you were pumping, watched a giant 18-wheel fuel tanker rumble up to refill the gas station’s tanks? These trucks are enormous, one-fourth as long as a football field, and each carries enough gasoline to fill a good-sized backyard swimming pool. Every year, women in the United States ingest enough powerful hormones in abortifacient methods of birth control to fill one of these tanker trucks — 3,375 gallons worth. Now picture a row of semi tanker trucks parked bumper to bumper and stretching three quarters of a mile. If they…Continue Reading

A Book Review . . . The Civilizing Influence Of Traditional Marriage

March 9, 2015 Featured Today Comments Off on A Book Review . . . The Civilizing Influence Of Traditional Marriage

By MITCHELL KALPAKGIAN Defending Marriage: Twelve Arguments for Sanity, by Anthony Esolen (Charlotte, NC: Saint Benedict Press, 2014), 175 pp. $14.95. Available at SaintBenedictPress.com or 1-800-437-5876. In a crass world that debases everything beautiful and holy from the innocence of children to the sacredness of life to the beauty of nuptial love, Dr. Esolen’s book restores the nobility of love to the realm of marriage and the family. With conviction, passion, and incisiveness, he confronts all the platitudes and rationalizations that undermine the morality, social value, and civilizing influence of traditional marriage. Arguing, first, that “We must not give the Sexual Revolution the force of irrevocable law” — the revolution that has made a mockery of purity, chastity, fidelity, self-respect,…Continue Reading

Fourteen Guardian Angels

March 8, 2015 Featured Today Comments Off on Fourteen Guardian Angels

By DONALD DeMARCO On Friday, February 20, 2015, Dr. Jack Willke, the man who converted President George Bush from being “pro-choice” to being pro-life, passed into a world where abortions do not take place. He and his wife, Barbara, are regarded as the parents of the pro-life movement. Their Handbook on Abortion and the later, Abortion: Questions and Answers, has been translated into 32 languages. It has been said that when a person who has enjoyed a rich and generous life passes away, he should inspire expressions of gratitude rather than grief. Jack Willke was nearly 90 when he died, and his work has benefited millions. His death does, indeed, sadden me, but it also brings back some happy memories.…Continue Reading

Philosophy And The Noon-Day Devil

March 7, 2015 Featured Today Comments Off on Philosophy And The Noon-Day Devil

By PHILIP TROWER I did not begin to study philosophy until I was in my 50s. I began to because I found that without some knowledge of modern philosophy, it was impossible to understand what was going wrong with the implementation of Vatican II, and to understand modern philosophy presupposed knowing something about philosophy in general. It was then that I first came across the notions of “contingent” and “necessary” being together with their relationship, and ever since I have found them the most helpful in the whole of philosophy in regard to the existence of God and the subject of this article. “Contingent” being is anything that does not have the ultimate explanation for its existence in its self,…Continue Reading
