Mexican-American Says . . . Obama Uses Hamas-Style Manipulation Of Minors

By DEXTER DUGGAN PHOENIX — The surge in illegal-immigrant minors entering the United States shows an “unprecedented strategy” by Barack Obama that’s “almost like Hamas, using children as bait, as shields for political attacks,” a Mexican-American businessman told The Wanderer after making a trip south of the border. The Latino minors sometimes are described in news media as facing serious dangers and even death on their way to the United States. Reymundo Torres, who’s also president of the Arizona Latino Republican Association, drew the comparison with the Mideast terrorist organization during an interview just after he returned from a two-night business trip to Hermosillo, the capital of Sonora, the Mexican state just south of Arizona. Torres said that neither he…Continue Reading

Teilhard De Chardin: Dangerous Or Orthodox?

By JAMES K. FITZPATRICK You can see why Catholics in the United States might be confused about where the Church stands on the theories of the French Jesuit Teilhard de Chardin. Recently, as reported by David Gibson in Religion News Service, “Gerhard [Cardinal] Mueller, head of the Vatican’s Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith,” warned the Leadership Conference of Women Religious, the group representing more than 40,000 American sisters, that “the principles of ‘conscious evolution’ — that mankind is transforming thorough the integration of science, spirituality, and technology — are opposed to Christian revelation and lead to fundamental errors.” According to Gibson, Mueller warned that “if the nuns persist in pursuing such dangerous ideas, Rome could cut them loose.”

A Great Defender Of Children?

By REY FLORES Once again, one of our most famous, supposedly Catholic politicians, Nancy Pelosi perplexes us and makes us wonder just how truly off-base one person can get. After having been one of the most ardent supporters of Planned Parenthood and abortion in general, Pelosi now tries to come off as the great defender of children, going so far as to compare the thousands of unaccompanied illegal immigrant children crossing our borders to baby Jesus. Just earlier this year she accepted the annual Margaret Sanger Award from none other than the number-one abortion provider in the world, Planned Parenthood. She now says that she wants us all to conform to the U.S. bishops’ request to treat the incoming illegal…Continue Reading

“So Sue Me”. . . Obama Is Not A Man For Church Bureaucrats Or Illegal Immigrants To Trust

By DEXTER DUGGAN PHOENIX — During His earthly mission, Jesus knew who His enemies were in the establishment but He still would have welcomed them into Heaven if they changed their ways. However, He didn’t pretend that the cloak of His love made their plotting and hypocrisy vanish. He freely handed out strong insults to His enemies — dead men’s bones, a dirty fox. And Jesus didn’t say it’d be really good to get together with them on common ground to bankroll camel caravans for unauthorized immigrants to reach the oasis of their dreams. He sought out sinners to convert, not the proud in their self-congratulation. Flash forward to the 21st century. Some U.S. Catholic Church bureaucrats know Barack Obama…Continue Reading

Are Pro-Lifers Allowed To Be Conscientious?

By DONALD DeMARCO An interesting case has developed in Poland surrounding a doctor who refused to abort a deformed baby who had been conceived in vitro at a fertility clinic. Professor Bogdan Chazan, director of the Holy Family Hospital in Warsaw, and one of the country’s leading medical doctors, invoked Poland’s conscience clause to justify the legality of refusing to perform the abortion. Nonetheless, Dr. Chazan was accused of using the conscience clause improperly since he also refused to arrange for an abortion with another physician. For this refusal, his hospital was fined approximately $23,000, money that would have gone to provide additional care for hospital patients.

New York City’s Elite Schools Under Fire

By JAMES K. FITZPATRICK It probably was inevitable that the left would turn against New York City’s elite public schools: Bronx High School of Science, Brooklyn Latin School, Stuyvesant High School, and Brooklyn Tech. It is the devolution we have seen in schools all across the country, from the days when the civil rights establishment insisted its goal was Martin Luther King’s goal of having everyone “judged by the content of his character and not the color of his skin,” to the rise of racial quotas and affirmative action programs. New York City’s elite schools would appear to be everything Martin Luther King wanted: a strict meritocracy. Admission is colorblind, based solely on a student’s score on the SHSAT (the…Continue Reading

Border Woman On Arizona Dangers . . . “The Whole Nation Is Going To Get What We Get”

By DEXTER DUGGAN PHOENIX — As a southern Arizona woman spoke with The Wanderer about U.S. private citizens recently rescuing illegal aliens from likely death in two instances, this writer asked how often she hears of such events. The woman, who lives near the international border but doesn’t want to be identified because of concerns about her safety, said this isn’t the kind of topic that people want to talk about — due to their own worries about personal security. They don’t want to attract the attention of agents of the powerful, deadly Latino drug cartels who live in the people’s own areas in Arizona, she said in a telephone interview. “People don’t want to be targets of the cartel”…Continue Reading

Balkanization Beckons

By PATRICK J. BUCHANAN Speaking to the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce in Albuquerque in 2001, George W. Bush declared that, as Mexico was a friend and neighbor, “It’s so important for us to tear down our barriers and walls that might separate Mexico from the United States.” Bush succeeded. And during his tenure, millions from Mexico exploited his magnanimity to violate our laws, trample upon our sovereignty, walk into our country, and remain here. In 2007, backed by John McCain, Hillary Clinton, Teddy Kennedy, and Barack Obama, Bush backed amnesty for the 12 million people who had entered America illegally.

Bill To Overturn Hobby Lobby Decision Stalls In Senate

By BEN JOHNSON WASHINGTON, D.C. — A bill introduced by Senate Democrats to erode the religious liberty of Americans who object to abortion-inducing drugs or contraception has stalled. The Democrat-controlled body voted 56-43 on July 16 to pass the bill, which would require business owners to offer contraceptives, sterilization, and abortion-inducing drugs to their employees with no co-pay, regardless of their religious views. However, the measure needed 60 votes to proceed, due to Senate cloture rules. Pro-abortion Republicans Susan Collins of Maine, Mark Kirk of Illinois, and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska voted with the Democratic majority. Women Speak Out PAC, a partner of the national pro-life Susan B. Anthony List, blasted them and vulnerable Democratic Senators Kay Hagan, Mark Pryor,…Continue Reading
