The Sign Of The Road To Heaven

September 8, 2022 Frontpage Comments Off on The Sign Of The Road To Heaven

By JAMES MONTI Along the highways here in the American Northeast, it is quite a common but sobering sight to spot on the side of the road a makeshift cross to mark the place where a tragic accident claimed the life of one or more occupants of the vehicles involved. The cross may be from a recent accident, or from one that happened years ago.Fresh flowers at the foot of the cross testify that those who perished there have not been forgotten. For when a family loses a loved one, it is not only their final resting place that will be remembered, but also where their soul departed from this world. For a person of faith, the choice of a…Continue Reading

A Millstone Around His Neck

September 7, 2022 Frontpage Comments Off on A Millstone Around His Neck

A Millstone Around His Neck By TOM TAKASH Today, some 2,000 years after Jesus walked among us, His message of love and forgiveness is preached continuously in churches and on Christian television throughout the world, and that message comforts believers who otherwise might despair of salvation. In fact, many Christian denominations seem to preach almost universal salvation. Martin Luther said, “Be a sinner and sin boldly, but believe and rejoice in Christ even more boldly.”But did Jesus really come offering only an olive branch? Just believe and you are saved? Yes, Jesus lived among sinners, and yes, He ate with them to the dismay of the Jewish leaders, but His message to them was never, “I’m okay. You’re okay.” Instead,…Continue Reading

Beacon Of Light… How Sacred Art Aids Our Spiritual Journey

September 6, 2022 Frontpage Comments Off on Beacon Of Light… How Sacred Art Aids Our Spiritual Journey

By FR. RICHARD D. BRETON JR. (Editor’s Note: Fr. Richard D. Breton Jr. is a priest of the Diocese of Norwich, Conn.) + + Last week I shared with you the USCCB’s vision of the Eucharistic Revival, and the four pillars needed for its success. The second pillar of the revival involves our contemplation of truth, goodness, and beauty in our love for the Eucharist. Today I want to reflect upon the prominence sacred art has in our journey of faith. What is art? Art is an inspiration, occurring in the artist, that evokes a response. Every artist begins with a blank canvas, a marble block, or a mound of clay. Whatever material is used, it may look like nothing special,…Continue Reading

Parents Don’t Need To Know

By DEACON MIKE MANNO In a first-grade classroom in Mission Viejo, Calif., a little seven-year-old girl who suffers from severe ADHD, and while the Black Lives Matter chants were echoing throughout the land, decided to draw a picture for her friend. The girl, only referred to as “Jane” who uses art as her own form of therapy contained the words, in a little girl’s spelling, “Black Lives Mater.”The drawing included figures representing children in all colors, but when she noticed that no color matched her friend’s, she added the words “any life” then gave the drawing to her friend.A simple expression of love and tolerance, right? Not according to the school principal. Jane was forced to apologize to her classmates for…Continue Reading

Protect The Vote

September 4, 2022 Frontpage Comments Off on Protect The Vote

By BARBARA SIMPSON Given all the issues facing people today, I suspect that most of us don’t think about our right to vote. If you do vote, you probably just take it for granted. If you don’t vote, that means you probably don’t think about the right to vote at all — more’s the pity. You should.Do you think that just anyone in the country has the right to vote? Anyone? Citizen or not? Are they qualified to vote just because they are here?If you think that, think again. It matters whether you are a citizen. If you are a citizen of this country, the right to vote is a key privilege. You have that right through the 26th Amendment to…Continue Reading

The End Of An Era

By CHRISTOPHER MANION Mikhail Gorbachev died this week, and the usual suspects led the chorus: “He ended the Cold War” (Reuters, Yahoo, Al Jazeera). He “took down the Iron Curtain” (CNN, The New York Times). And of course he won the Nobel Peace Prize. But it was Ronald Reagan, not Mikhail Gorbachev, who ended the Cold War. It was Reagan who took down the Iron Curtain. And it was Reagan’s policy of “Peace through Strength” that made it all happen without firing a shot.Ronald Reagan entered the White House with the firm intention of winning. At the time, “peaceful coexistence” was in vogue, and the Brezhnev Doctrine taught that “what’s ours is ours, what’s yours is negotiable” — Communist countries were there to…Continue Reading

How To Prove God Exists

September 2, 2022 Frontpage Comments Off on How To Prove God Exists

BY JOE SIXPACK Part I Although we can’t prove God’s existence with empirical evidence (yet), we can prove His existence through the use of logic and right reason. The main problem with the use of logic and reason, though, is that people don’t use them anymore. Instead, they think with emotion. You’ll just have to overcome that.So how do we know God exists? Well, the short answer is that the Bible tells us so. But there is also the Argument from Nature (Design), which we’ll explain shortly. Then there is the Argument from Conscience, which I personally think is the best one, which we’ll also explain. Finally there is the one I call the Bad Man/ Mad Man Argument. But…Continue Reading

Starter Steps In Case Anyone In Washington . . . Is Interested in Fixing Our Broken Political System

September 1, 2022 Frontpage Comments Off on Starter Steps In Case Anyone In Washington . . . Is Interested in Fixing Our Broken Political System

By NEIL PATEL One of the biggest reasons American politics have turned upside down over the past few years is that growing numbers of Americans do not think leaders represent their interests. That simple sentiment underlies nearly every recent problem in American politics. Yet for some reason, almost nobody has engaged in the process of figuring out how this happened and how to fix it.It’s hard to trust elected representatives if you think they are in it to line their own pockets. Voters also don’t trust politicians who seem to prioritize foreign interests or special interests over their own well-being. Those are precisely the sentiments many voters feel today. It has now been over six years since America’s political class was…Continue Reading

Brother Bishops

By CHRISTOPHER MANION For several weeks, Nicaragua’s Communist government has mounted an attack on Matagalpa Bishop Rolando Alvarez, accusing him of “organizing violent groups” and inciting them “to carry out acts of hate against the population.” On August 19, Sandinista police entered the episcopal compound and kidnapped Bishop Alvarez and jailed several of his priests.“It’s a steadily worsening situation,” reports Inés San Martín, “that has seen priests thrown in prison, religious processions canceled by the government, and Catholics forbidden to enter their own churches. Police have also forcibly entered and raided parishes, prevented parishioners from receiving the Eucharist inside the church and besieged other priests in their churches.”The flagrant seizing of Bishop Alvarez is the latest in a series of…Continue Reading

Beacon Of Light… The Eucharistic Revival

August 30, 2022 Frontpage Comments Off on Beacon Of Light… The Eucharistic Revival

By FR. RICHARD D. BRETON JR. (Editor’s Note: Fr. Richard D. Breton Jr. is a priest of the Diocese of Norwich, Conn.) + + On June 19, 2022, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops instituted a much-needed Eucharistic Revival. This decision was made in response to a 2019 Pew Survey Study that 60 percent of Catholics do not believe in the Real Presence of the Eucharist. So, this means that there are only 40 percent of Catholics who really believe! This is staggering and quite disturbing, considering the number of the faithful who present themselves for Holy Communion. Does everyone who approaches the Altar for Holy Communion really believe or are they just going through the motions? In order to…Continue Reading
