The Whipping Hoax

By BARBARA SIMPSON Surprising no one, the problem of our porous Southern border continues to follow the Biden administration. The issue of how our border agents “treat” illegals got into the headlines again the past week, and the news was not good for Biden and his followers. The incident at hand was the controversy that started in September 2021 over how border patrol agents allegedly treated Haitian immigrants at the border. At the time, there was an encampment of an estimated 15,000 migrants. There was a photograph of border patrol agents on horseback and the accusation against them was that they were whipping the migrants with the reins of the horses. The pictures — videos and photographs — were taken by freelance…Continue Reading

By CHRISTOPHER MANION “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13). + + On Friday, April 22, Texas National Guardsman Specialist Bishop Evans was posted on the Mexican border to participate in Operation Lone Star. The Operation was begun when the Biden administration’s “open borders” policy resulted in a wave of illegal aliens from dozens of countries began coming north through Mexico to the U.S. border. Americans could no longer depend on the federal enforcement that had protected the border under the Trump administration.According to the Texas government website, “Governor Abbott launched Operation Lone Star in March 2021 to respond to a rise in illegal immigration. In May, Governor Abbott…Continue Reading

St. Christopher

By JOE SIXPACK St Christopher is one of the most popular saints in the Church. Millions of Catholics wear a St. Christopher medal or have a medallion of him on or in their car. These medals usually depict St. Christopher as a big giant of a man carrying a small boy on his shoulders while standing in chest-deep water. Everybody knows St. Christopher is the patron saint of travelers, but few know the actual story of the saint. This giant of a man, whose name was Offero, lived in the land of Canaan in the early centuries of Christianity. Unhappy with his life and desirous of adventure, Offero left his native land saying, “I will journey throughout the whole world in…Continue Reading

How History Will View The Biden Years

April 28, 2022 Frontpage Comments Off on How History Will View The Biden Years

By NEIL PATEL When historians study the disaster that was the Biden administration, they will find many factors that contributed to the historic level failure we are witnessing. At the top of the list is a president who is clearly just not up to the job. Whether due to age, cognitive decline, or general ineptitude, Joe Biden has not been able to lead America. Nobody wants a weak president. People can smell weakness, and Biden reeks of it.The president put himself in a further hole by surrounding himself with a young staff driven more by a rigid, left-wing ideology than a desire to help the lives of everyday Americans. With a leader seemingly too weak to temper his team’s radical…Continue Reading

Our Elites Hate America. Do Our Bishops?

April 27, 2022 Frontpage Comments Off on Our Elites Hate America. Do Our Bishops?

By CHRISTOPHER MANION Sixty years ago Bill Buckley wrote God and Man at Yale, describing how the professors and administration at his alma mater had betrayed so profoundly the Christian foundations of the college and the American principles that had flowed from them.Fifteen years later, in 1978, future Congressman John Leboutillier wrote Harvard Hates America. This time around, the betrayal of the intelligentsia had matured into ripe, outright hate.Time had taken its toll, and, since those tumultuous 1970s, the Catholic hierarchy has come to share some common sentiments with those Ivy League elites. The 1970s were a dark time for the American Church’s leadership. A precious few bishops did dare to defend Humanae Vitae, but the majority of their colleagues were…Continue Reading

A Beacon Of Light . . . The Fourth Commandment And Our Relationships With Others

By FR. RICHARD D. BRETON (Editor’s Note: Fr. Richard D. Breton is a priest of the Diocese of Norwich, Conn. He received his BA in religious studies and his MA in dogmatic theology from Holy Apostles College and Seminary in Cromwell, Conn.) + + Today we will transition from the first three Commandments that relate directly to God. Our focus will be on our relationships with our neighbors. By making this transition, we must keep in mind the basis of the three previous Commandments pertaining to God. They are the foundation as we move forward. First, we must know how to love the Lord Our God. Then, we can focus on loving others. The transition begins with the Fourth Commandment which…Continue Reading

Asians And Academics

April 25, 2022 Frontpage Comments Off on Asians And Academics

By DEACON MIKE MANNO About a year ago this column reported on the growing suspicion that academia was biased against students of Asian descent. The issue had been percolating within scholastic circles, but finally was brought to the forefront by several lawsuits filed against several notable institutions of higher learning: Harvard University, the University of North Carolina, and the University of Texas. The suit against Harvard is now pending before the Supreme Court and a decision should be announced before the end of the court’s term. At the heart of the suit, for many, is the role affirmative action and Critical Race Theory have played in producing college admissions requirements that lean — ever so slightly sometimes — on the racial…Continue Reading

“Illegals And The Freebies”

April 24, 2022 Frontpage Comments Off on “Illegals And The Freebies”

By BARBARA SIMPSON What does it take to be a citizen of the United States? Does it make any difference whether a person is “legal’ or “illegal”? In fact, what does that really mean and is there a difference?Yes, there is a difference between a person in this country legally and one who is not. At its most basic, if the person is here illegally, he is not entitled to the benefits of American citizenship. If they are born here, they are a citizen. If not, it will depend on how they got here, under what circumstances and do they have authentic paperwork authorizing their being here.As it stands now, we are being inundated with people from countries across the world,…Continue Reading

Easter: Bringing Out The Worst In Unbelievers

April 23, 2022 Frontpage Comments Off on Easter: Bringing Out The Worst In Unbelievers

By CHRISTOPHER MANION On Saturday of Holy Week, The New York Times published an op-ed entitled, “In This Time of War, I Propose We Give Up God.” Shalom Alexander, the apparently unhappy author, “grew up in an Haredi Jewish neighborhood in Monsey, N.Y., where he describes himself as having been ‘raised like a veal,’ a reference to his strict religious upbringing,” his bio recounts. And he’s been mad ever since. For some reason, the greatest feast of the year for Christian believers brings out the worst in many unbelievers. They can’t just let it go by. Like the chap who was “cast into the outer darkness” from the King’s wedding feast (Matt. 22:13), they seem to bear a certain resentment toward those…Continue Reading

Dixie-ese

April 22, 2022 Frontpage Comments Off on Dixie-ese

By JOE SIXPACK I can’t recall whether I’ve mentioned it in previous installments, but I became a Catholic when I lived in the Deep South. I was like a fish out of water down there, because we “Yankees is differ’nt.” Anyway, that’s where I began working in lay evangelization. I was reminiscing the other day about some of my experiences in evangelization. People are no different there than in the North…sort of…but the Deep South does offer some unique challenges. For instance, I had to become proficient in a language I call Dixie-ese. To demonstrate my point, I’d like to relate a memorable incident here for you. It’s an exchange between myself and a man who eventually became my godson; his…Continue Reading
