Kerygma, Didache, And The New Evangelization

June 20, 2014 Frontpage Comments Off on Kerygma, Didache, And The New Evangelization

By PHILIP TROWER Some of the things our Holy Father, Pope Francis, has been saying since he became Pope about the way the faith should be presented and taught as a preamble to the new evangelization have unquestionably ruffled a few feathers. However, I have increasingly come to think that there would be less misunderstanding if more people were aware of a development that has been taking place in the Church’s thinking and teaching on this subject over the last 50 years. This development seems to have begun at the time of Vatican II, and, in a modified form, has been accepted by subsequent Popes and episcopal synods. But only, I would say, in the last few years has a…Continue Reading

The Endgame

June 19, 2014 Frontpage Comments Off on The Endgame

By JAMES K. FITZPATRICK The liberal establishment in the media and the academy react with disdain toward those who contend that the objective of homosexual activists is to one day make it illegal to make public statements in defense of traditional Christian views on sex and marriage. They call those who fear that such a day will come “kooks,” “extremist,” and “paranoid.” Recent events in Canada illustrate that there is good reason to suspect that the endgame for the secular left is precisely that: to drive the biblical understanding of marriage from the public square and to cast those with traditional beliefs on this matter in the same category as flat-earthers and religious eccentrics not to be taken seriously by…Continue Reading

Liberal Media Bias: Exhibit A, Hillary Clinton

June 19, 2014 Frontpage Comments Off on Liberal Media Bias: Exhibit A, Hillary Clinton

By JAMES K. FITZPATRICK “Liberal media bias”: It is one of the most frequently used expressions of our time. Conservatives maintain it is real and a frequent occurrence, a fact of life. Liberals deny its existence, insisting that journalists are professional and dedicated to the pursuit of the truth, wherever it leads them. Recent weeks have given us an example of why the conservatives are right on this one, an example of how liberals in the media can shape the public’s view of an issue without actually lying. I have in mind the media’s reaction to Monica Lewinsky’s June Vanity Fair article about what happened with President Clinton and her between 1995 and 1997. The media are circling the wagons,…Continue Reading

Obama’s Nightmare On The Border… Can’t Lead To Happy New Day For Anyone

June 18, 2014 Frontpage Comments Off on Obama’s Nightmare On The Border… Can’t Lead To Happy New Day For Anyone

By DEXTER DUGGAN PHOENIX — Barack Obama’s administration created astonishing contradictions by claiming that the United States’ southern border is secure while inducing swelling numbers of illegal Latino immigrants to violate the border with impunity, in hopes of guaranteed U.S. residency. Rather than send newly revealed surges of unaccompanied minors back home to those who exercise proper custody in Latino nations, Obama’s administration used technicalities to begin trying to imbed those arriving in the U.S. The Democratic president’s apparent aim was to overpower this nation through sheer numbers, so federal lawmakers would capitulate to Obama’s dreamed-of massive “amnesty.” However, the surprise primary-election defeat of House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R., Va.) on June 10 by a foe of illegal immigration,…Continue Reading

The Endless Invasion Of America

June 17, 2014 Frontpage Comments Off on The Endless Invasion Of America

By PATRICK J. BUCHANAN For ten days, as of this writing, Americans have argued over the wisdom of trading five Taliban senior commanders for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl. President Obama handed the Taliban a victory, critics contend, and imperiled U.S. troops in Afghanistan when the five return to the battlefield. Moreover, he has inspired the Haqqani network and other Islamists to capture more Americans to trade. But which represents the greater long-term threat to the safety and security of our people and nation: sending those five Taliban leaders to Doha, and perhaps back to Afghanistan, or releasing into the U.S. population last year 36,000 criminal illegal aliens with 88,000 convictions among them?

USCCB Is As Dysfunctional As The U.S. Congress

June 16, 2014 Frontpage Comments Off on USCCB Is As Dysfunctional As The U.S. Congress

By ROBERT L. HALE (Editor’s Note: Robert L. Hale of North Dakota is founder and director of a nonprofit public-interest law firm. He writes for the Fitzgerald Griffin Foundation, www.fgfbooks.com, which provided this essay. All rights reserved.) +    +    + The bureaucracy of the Catholic Church in the United States is trying to be as useless, conflicted, counterproductive, and harmful to lay Catholics as the U.S. Congress is to the American people. America’s bishops are confusing Catholics by using doublespeak, being indecisive, and being politically correct. Their posturing has, and is, causing great harm to the Church in America. A case in point: In June 2012, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) unanimously stated that the contraception-sterilization-abortifacients regulation…Continue Reading

With Pro-Life Waco For “The Pill Kills”

June 15, 2014 Frontpage Comments Off on With Pro-Life Waco For “The Pill Kills”

By REY FLORES Americans across the country on June 7 took to the streets to help bring the truth about the dangers of contraception to the rest of the nation. The American Life League’s “The Pill Kills” campaign had an unprecedented number of sponsors — over 60 — among whom were well-known pro-life leaders like ChurchMilitant TV’s Michael Voris, and pro-life blogger Jill Stanek. Many of the sponsoring organizations are already part of American Life League’s 120+ Associates who are at the frontlines of the pro-life battle, fighting 365 days a year against the Culture of Death. I spent the “Pill Kills” weekend in Texas with ALL Associates Pro-Life Waco as we brought our life-affirming message to one of the…Continue Reading

Beware A Beneficent Government

June 14, 2014 Frontpage Comments Off on Beware A Beneficent Government

By ANDREW P. NAPOLITANO The president is an ardent progressive. This dastardly philosophy of government was brought into the American mainstream 100 years ago by a Republican, Theodore Roosevelt, and a Democrat, Woodrow Wilson. Its guiding principle is the belief that government — not individuals — is the chief engine of human progress. If that means government tearing down rich persons to help poor persons, if that means the massive redistribution of wealth, if it means federal regulation of every conceivable occupation or productive endeavor, if it means fighting an unjust war, progressives are for it. Before the progressives, the dominant political thinkers in America were Madisonians.

Mark Cuban: Nihil Obstat

June 13, 2014 Frontpage Comments Off on Mark Cuban: Nihil Obstat

By JAMES K. FITZPATRICK I can’t say that my predictions are always correct: I can remember telling people that the personal computer was just a fad (“What are people going to do with it after they’ve saved their recipes and Christmas card list?”). Even so, I was surprised when it turned out that I was wrong about the remarks about racial prejudice made by Mark Cuban, the owner of the National Basketball Association team the Dallas Mavericks. I thought they were going to be met with universal approval. Cuban was attempting to put into perspective comments made by fellow NBA-owner Donald Sterling about American blacks, comments that earned Sterling widespread condemnation. Sterling’s comments are hard to defend. But not Cuban’s.…Continue Reading

Give ’Em An Inch

June 12, 2014 Frontpage Comments Off on Give ’Em An Inch

By JAMES K. FITZPATRICK The campus leftists are feeling their oats these days. They appear to have been emboldened by how easy it has been to get campus administrators to appease them on the issue of commencement speakers. They are taking the proverbial “yard.” One is tempted to speculate that they have gone too far, becoming so irrational in their demands that the people who matter in educational circles — alumni with money — will step in and put an end to their petulance. We’ll see. If the reaction at The New York Daily News (a quite liberal publication these days, under publisher Mort Zuckerman) on Sunday, May 18 means anything, a consensus may be building that it is time…Continue Reading
