Neither Left Nor Right, But Catholic . . . What Should Be The Basis For The Supreme Court’s Abortion Decisions

June 9, 2022 Frontpage Comments Off on Neither Left Nor Right, But Catholic . . . What Should Be The Basis For The Supreme Court’s Abortion Decisions

By STEPHEN M. KRASON Since the leaking of Justice Samuel Alito’s draft opinion in the abortion cases currently before the Supreme Court, there has been much excitement among pro-lifers about the distinct possibility that the Court’s 1973 Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton decisions that had the effect of legalizing abortion, essentially until birth, would finally go into the dustbin of history. It should be understood, however, that it appears that the best that will happen if reversal occurs is that abortion will become a states’ rights issue. That would essentially put the country back to where it was in the 1960s, when the push got underway to “liberalize” and then repeal outright the restrictive abortion laws then in place.…Continue Reading

Biden Challenges Parents: “We Want Your Kids!”

June 8, 2022 Frontpage Comments Off on Biden Challenges Parents: “We Want Your Kids!”

By CHRISTOPHER MANION “Children belong to the state, not the family” — John Swett, California Teachers Union Founder, 1867. + + In April, speaking to a group of public school teachers at the White House, Joe Biden resonated a theme that’s festered among the Left for over a century. Speaking of their students, Biden said, “They’re all our children. . . . They’re not somebody else’s children. They’re like yours when they’re in the classroom.”Of course, he was speaking to members of the strongest, most radical political force in the country — government school unions. And he wasn’t kidding. There are a thousand fronts in the Left’s war on America, and our schools are the targets in dozens of ways. Critical…Continue Reading

A Beacon Of Light… The Tenth Commandment: Corruption Of The Heart

June 7, 2022 Frontpage Comments Off on A Beacon Of Light… The Tenth Commandment: Corruption Of The Heart

By FR. RICHARD D. BRETON JR. (Editor’s Note: Fr. Richard D. Breton Jr. is a priest of the Diocese of Norwich, Conn. He received his BA in religious studies and his MA in dogmatic theology from Holy Apostles College and Seminary in Cromwell, Conn.) + + Today we come to the final and tenth word of the Decalogue: “Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s goods.” The Tenth Commandment is linked to the Ninth Commandment. In discussing the Ninth Commandment we were concerned with concupiscence, or the desire of the flesh. In a like manner, the Tenth Commandment is concerned with the intentions of the heart. Some common temptations associated with this commandment are avarice, envy, and jealousy. These temptations hinder…Continue Reading

Biden’s War On Pro-Life Conservatives

June 6, 2022 Frontpage Comments Off on Biden’s War On Pro-Life Conservatives

By DEACON MIKE MANNO If we have not realized it yet, and surely most of us do at this point, our “devout Catholic” president is on a war footing against, not enemies of the nation, but American servicemen who are deemed unfit due to their conservative Christian and pro-life beliefs.Joe Biden, who has continued to bloody his hands with the results of his extreme abortion (anytime, anywhere) agenda, continues to pursue his vendetta against those pro-lifers in the military, as well as in federal employment, by using the old crisis excuse: COVID.As reported earlier, Mr. Biden issued orders that all federal employees, including members of the military, must receive the COVID vaccine or be terminated from their positions. While each…Continue Reading

A Beacon Of Light . . . From Nothingness Into Existence

By FR. RICHARD D. BRETON JR. (Editor’s Note: Fr. Richard D. Breton Jr. is a priest of the Diocese of Norwich, Conn. He received his BA in religious studies and his MA in dogmatic theology from Holy Apostles College and Seminary in Cromwell, Conn.) + + It all began in the moments of creation. This statement is the starting point from where our understanding of prayer begins. In the actions of Creation, God calls every being from nothingness into existence. “Crowned with glory and honor,” man is, after the angels, capable of acknowledging “how majestic is the name of the Lord in all the earth” (CCC, n. 2566). Even after the fall, man is still pursued by God as the…Continue Reading

Grave Hoax

June 5, 2022 Frontpage Comments Off on Grave Hoax

By BARBARA SIMPSON As if we didn’t have enough to be skeptical about media reporting, now we find out that a major scandal reported concerning the Catholic Church appears to be unfounded. You’ve probably read and heard about it — the allegation that thousands of mass graves were discovered in Canada that contained the bodies of Indigenous children who had been under the care of the Catholic Church. The story originated with an e-mail from anthropologist Sarah Beaulieu. In it, she said she used ground-penetrating radar to discover the remains of bodies buried on the grounds of the Kamloops Residential Indian School. The radar supposedly had found indications of some 215 probable graves on the grounds of the school. It was a…Continue Reading

California’s Left Blasts Archbishop Cordileone

June 4, 2022 Frontpage Comments Off on California’s Left Blasts Archbishop Cordileone

By CHRISTOPHER MANION Two weeks ago today, Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone publicly announced his decision to bar House Speaker Nancy Pelosi from the reception of the Eucharist. As expected, the announcement aroused significant indignation and ire from the Usual Suspects.A tirade that appeared in the San Francisco Examiner the next day is representative of the hatred harbored by the Left Coast for the Catholic faith. Once a flagship of the Hearst Papers but now a free rag that’s worth every penny, the Examiner’s editors responded to the archbishop with a witch’s brew that sums up years of resentment, rage, and hatred of Catholic teaching. It has haunted the City by the Bay for years. The Examiner’s attack calls to mind our report…Continue Reading

The Beginnings Of Divine Worship

June 3, 2022 Frontpage Comments Off on The Beginnings Of Divine Worship

BY JOE SIXPACK Let’s take a break from apologetics for a few weeks. Instead, for the next few weeks let’s focus on just what divine worship is, and what it really means for us. You see, I’m firmly convinced that if Catholics truly understood what was taking place at the Mass they would desire to fall prostrate before the altar every time they entered their parish church, would never consider leaving after Communion and before the final blessing, and would remain silent until they exited the building.I’d like to begin with a disclaimer. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is a mystery of faith, and as such we cannot fully understand it, but we accept it on the basis of…Continue Reading

The Faithful’s Rightful Aspiration To “Devotion” In The Sacred Liturgy

June 2, 2022 Frontpage Comments Off on The Faithful’s Rightful Aspiration To “Devotion” In The Sacred Liturgy

By JAMES MONTI The word “devotion” is one that comes up frequently enough in Catholic conversation. It is a term with a very rich and beautiful meaning, yet strangely enough, for decades now, it has been cast as virtually a pejorative expression, as something somehow at odds with our most important action as Catholics, the sacred liturgy. The word “devotion” is derived from the verb “devote,” which means “to give up oneself or one’s time, energies, etc., to some purpose, activity, or person,” i.e., to dedicate oneself or one’s possessions to a special purpose or a particular person. It is especially when this devotion involves the giving of oneself to the service of another person that we recognize it as a…Continue Reading

By PEGGY MOEN BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — In C.S. Lewis’ The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, three children and two beavers race through the snow in Narnia to escape the evil machinations of the White Witch. The Witch is holding a fourth child, their brother, as a hostage in her castle. She fears they will bring about the return of Aslan the Lion, thus overthrowing her and restoring peace and freedom to the beleaguered magical land. They hear a sleigh catching up to them, and dive under a bridge. But it is not the Witch in her sleigh, but Father Christmas in his. He comes bearing gifts — gifts that will aid the children in their coming battle with the forces…Continue Reading
